No it's not.. you're just making s**t up.. It doesn't deter Marshalls development at all.. in fact it enhances it .. Playing ruck/fwd is a Great thing for him and us..

There's probably 2 Ruckmen that could play 100% in the ruck . Goody is one of them.

Marshall is having a break out year, but unless you can see the future, who knows if he can sustain it.

Plus aren't you always telling us that the people inside the club know more than us?
I’m not making a thing up. He plays less time on the ground with what you said not me. He plays less time in his best position. And the club do know more. I didn’t know Goldstein was playing for us next year.

There is no proof at all playing as a ruck forward is good for us. I reckon we can guess having one big on the bench the whole is a bad thing because not many if any sides do it. We can also guess Marshall less time is bad for us and him.

No idea what goldy playing 100% in the ruck even has to do with this. Surely you don’t want rucking the whole game. We do know Marshall plays 88% in the ruck. And very well.

Its very easy - you don't make assumptions and you aim to develop a list that gives you viable options.

Then its absolutely straight forward - the best performing ruckman plays ruck, and then the best performing talls play as tall forwards. Its not rocket science.

Currently ruckwise we have Marshall ........................................... then daylight .................................................................. then Rowe ................................... and then more daylight ............................................. then nothing.

Doesn't it worry you at all that there is no viable ruck option other than Marshall - can look for a long term option but we seriously need to recruit a ruckman who can play next year - simple as that.

Recruit Goldstein and what does that mean for possible options next year allowing for injury and loss of form - add Tomlinson to that and the mix becomes almost endless.

Marshall ruck, Bruce Membrey King forward

Goldstein ruck, Bruce Membrey Marshall forward

Goldstein ruck, Bruce Marshall Acres

Marshall Ruck, King Membrey Carlisle

and on and on and on!!!

PS Do you think we should offer Brown a new contract or should we let him go and assume those players who haven't gone past him yet will magically improve next year?
Exactly, the only way to improve is have competition for spots.. people think success teams/environment is made from the senior team only, the fact is we need competition through the list, player 40th pushing player 1st, so we always have the best performing players in the senior team.. the reason we failed in 2009/10 is we didn’t have any depth.

Ormond FC hasn't taught u thing... I wouldve thought Mick Holden would be taught you a thing or 2

So Marshall will never lose form? will never get an injury? or touch wood a long term injury? What about our laughable set up with Bruce and Acres rucking when Marshall is off the ground? We need more competition for spots, not less..

look at our reserves/depth, it’s a mess after years of neglect... holding onto players who should have been moved on long time ago.. good teams constantly trying to improve the list.. have multiple players competing for each spot.. that’s how you get success..

Interesting. Most clubs have players as bad as them as their second ruck. And when have once suggested we don’t get another ruck. We just shouldn’t get a first ruck. I’m all over Draper and an older guy that will be ready for sandy round one.

Out:

Saints- Stuv and 2020 2nd
Cats - Tim Kelly
Freo - Hill and 2020 1st (currently pick 7)

In:

Saints - Hill
Cats- Stuv, Freo 1st rounder and saints 2020 2nd rounder
Freo - Kelly

Probably favours us and the others get unders but hey, it's our board afterall! :D
Favours us? how? cats are big winner there... Ross Lyon already said Hill wanting to come to Victoria is inaccurate, why would he? he has his brother and family in WA.. Would be more interested to get Adam Cerra and Darcy Tucker

His wife wants to come back. If you are married you will know that’s enough

Actually looks very good all round to me. Geelong get heaps, Freo probably give up the most but Kelly is legit Brownlow quality so you expect a first round pick and a very good player or two firsts. Geelong get something for now and plenty for the future. We probably get the most benefit because Stuv has very limited trade options but at his best he's A grade close to elite.

So we get 66% out of maybe our best player instead of 88%. We also play him away from a position he is probably top 5 in the afl. It’s actually crazy stuff.

And finally we always are stuck with a big on the bench to limit roatations

Marshall has midfield traits if we wanted to sit him as a rover and have a second ruck on the ground.

Definitely trade to get another utility and some outside class.

Pick 3 and Acres for Hill (x 2) and a 3rd rounder. That goes to GWS for Tomlinson.

Bytel will dominate as an inside mid. Use Marsh to play as a big bodied mid along with him Steele and Dunstan.

Ross, Steven, Gresham and Hill outside mids.

Goldy free agent, Draper PSD.

John Barker as coach - Saints are bound for glory!!!!!

We could sit both Bruce and Marshall forward while Goldstein rucks and change between Goldstein and Marshall.

Why is there this push to take Marshal out of the ruck role he's been dominating in this year? It's so weird.

We finally have a player playing incredibly well in their position, and there's a push to move them elsewhere. Bizarre.

Crazy. Since round 11 Marshall has been the best player in the league according to the afl player ratings playing as our ruck. Yet people still want to shift him out for Oldstein. Only at St Kilda!
Marshall isn't a developing ruck anymore. He is established.
King will be playing next year so the tiny amount of time Bruce spends in the ruck won't be as much of a problem.
A mobile fwd/rk like ladhams and/or a young developing ruck as back up in case of emergency is all that's needed.

Maybe we have a genius idea of trading him for a high pick to use in the draft. Hopefully we can turn that pick into player like him.

Unless you can see the future, who knows if Marshall is going to be any good as a forward?

He's never set the world on fire up forward before and has gone from a fringe player to our best player after being moved to the ruck.
