Article today by Graham Cornes about Nicks.

It was a simple question. The reply was completely unexpected. “Magical”, said the senior Crows player.
He had been asked how it was going with the new coach.
“It’s magical”, he said

Not that he’s soft on them or backing off on the training track. They’re working as hard as they ever had.

“He’s tough on us” said another player.

They wouldn’t respect him if he wasn’t. It’s the effort he’s making to get to know them that they respect.

The AFL clubs are back into full training now after the Christmas break.

Apart from grand final week if you’re a contender, it’s the best time of the football year.

hmmmm, magical. I can't think of many "Magical" experiences in my life. But you can be dam sure pre-season wasn't one of them
It's all relative... ie. Compared to that camp it's magical!

a lot of people keep saying we'll finish bottom 6 because we've lost so many players. lets see who we've lost.

betts: he's finished.
jacobs: same thing.
jenkins: not in best 18. fog is in front.
greenwood. in and out the side. again, not best 18.
keath: the only real loss.
douglas: retired
otten: retired and has't been in best 18 for years.

I just dont get it. where are these huge losses?

Exactly. I actually thin we will be better but im trying to keep a lid on it. But since you brought it up. I think an extra 2 wins giving us 14 wins with a fit Doedee and the kids with another pre-season. I think Milera will have a Mcleod 1997 season. And end up in the mids by the end of the year just like Macca did in 1997. Everyone one is so gloom and doom. I bet we will finish ahead of Port as well.

Do you think we make the 8?

betts: he's finished. - 300 games - Murphy hasnt had 50- when the pressure is on 300 games count
jacobs: same thing. - happy to concede this - but he kept pressure on ROB
jenkins: not in best 18. fog is in front. - come on , at least acknowledge Jenkins was best 18. Fog has had 20 games
greenwood. in and out the side. again, not best 18. - whoever replaces him is still 3 years behind Greenwood
keath: the only real loss.
douglas: retired - fair
otten: retired and has't been in best 18 for years. - fair

If you dont think we make the 8 then finishing 12th with a newish inconsistent squad is well on the cards. Thats bottom 6

To be fair Jenkins, Betts and Greenwood wont be hard to replace , what will be hard is waiting for the replacements to get to or close to the level some of these played

We won 12 games last season. Any other year and we would have made the 8.

jenkins wouldnt have been in my side last year. fog was ahead of him. he's tougher, harder and a better kick for goal.

Im not sure murphy is the right replacement for betts either. theres tyson stengle, jones and mchenry. also shane mcadam, forgot about him.

jones and mchenry can also rotate through the middle if they're fit enough.

Do you think the squad we have will win 12 games?

Jenkins, Greenwood , Betts , Douglas and Keath were all players in our ''best 22'' for most of those 12 wins

JJ Betts and Douglas were dropped. Greenwood was also spending time in Sanfl. Keath was injured a lot last season and will be one replaced by Doedee anyway

Douglas 9 games 3 wins 6 losses
Greenwood 14 games 8 wins 6 losses
Betts 21 games 10 wins 11 losses
Jenkins 11 games 5 wins 6 losses

Keath played 18 games for 9 wins 9 losses

1. Betts was never dropped he was managed for 1 game - one

2. Keath wasnt injured ' a lot' he missed 4 games

Keath - s, gc, sk,fr,pa, m,gws,ri, gc
Douglas - gws,ri
Betts - s, gc, sk,fr,pa, m,gws,ri sk
Jenkins - s, m , gws, ri, gc
Greenwood - gc,sk,fr,pa,m,gws,ri,gc

So of that group only Douglas didnt play in a majority of the wins

Keath, Betts and Greenwood played in at least 7 wins together - add Jenkins for 5 wins with the group and 4 with Betts included. They played in ''most'' of our wins as a group

Finishing 12th is not bottom 6.

I'm not convinced that anyone who played in our forward line last year is finished because the game plan was awful and the ball movement terrible.

Betts and Jenkins both suffered with the glacial ball movement.

That said, there is little doubt they are past their best, but finished I'm not so sure.

New coach and game plan I think they could be handy but I think it's a good move from the club to move them on.

We backed these guys for 2 years after the GF loss to deliver. And it hasn't happened.

Time to clear out.

BTW agree with Keath. He is a gun and the one I really would have liked to retain. He is a great pick up for the Bulldogs but would have been an even better pick up for a contending team. If Richmond knew that Rance was going they should have moved heaven and earth for Keath.

Just my view.
