Why are Cat B rookie spots being protected? An additional 2x protected standard rookie slots (for guys who you know, played football growing up) are surely more important?
They are paid separate to the salary cap I believe.

Saad to Carlton, * gets their pick 7.
Daniher to Brisbane, * gets 1st round compensation, a pick after their pick 6.

They have pick 6, 7, 8 in the draft. Brown declares he wants to go there, and Dodoro offers us their next pick (current #41).

I stop watching footy in rage.

Taking a resource we have and waiting until it is undervalued and then looking to ship it off for less than we know it is worth because we have a shot at a kid at 2 who could be the next Carey or Mitch Thorp is mental.

Unless we have doubts about the future of that resource.

Is that upgrade Pick 9 to Pick 6? Or are we settling for an upgrade of later picks?

Yeah, based on what others were talking about. I mean in this draft pool does it really matter if you go from 9 to 6? Unless you really have your eyes set on someone who you think will be there at 6 but not at 9 and the players at around that mark aren't what you really want then only then would it be worthwhile.

Unless someone is going to pay Brown under $500k then he is worth a first round pick on his own. If he gets $600k+ it should be a top 10 pick imo, I don't care how much we screwed the pooch, what we should be expecting to get should be in line with the type of contract offered to him. It is where we ****ed up with the Preuss trade a few years back, for the contract that Melbourne offered him we should have got a lot more.

I could just about stomach it if it was our future 2nd/3rd for their future 1st.

I don't think given our list changes that we can afford to put our 2021 2nd round pick on the table, we gave up this year's 2nd last year and it is only marginally off a 1st round pick.

Moving from 9 to 6 in this years draft would be ideal considering Essendon are possibly getting a Band 1 compo for Daniher and GWS are likely getting a Band 1 compo for Williams.

Couple that with the NGA academy bids that will come for JUH and Braeden Campbell and our pick 9 gets pushed out to the 11-13 range whereas Pick 6 pretty much stays where it is.

I’d love to pick up a duo of Hollands and Thilthorpe or McDonald and Phillips with Pick 2 and Pick 6 but that just wouldn’t happen with Pick 9.

Under that situation I'd be happy

There’s going to be a lot of disappointed people on here after the outcome of the Brown trade .
How to dampen the mood!

Scooby had said a swap of picks so the pick upgrade was probably not on the agenda.

It will probably be a swap of picks and upgrades over this year and next that probably rates BBB around pick 20?
