GWS doing everything right with Jeremy Cameron.

THEY matched. Cameron is now THEIR player. They are now making Geelong sweat and putting everything back on them. Saying "we want this guy, so fu** off until you put up the trade capital"

They've then also arranged suitable alternates with Adelaide, North and Essendon (even if unrealistic), who all have better picks in the PSD, to keep Geelong on their toes.

Looks like an absolute masterclass in comparison to what we did

The difference is they have an asset who they want & others want, we had a fragile player wanting a 5 year deal who got busted for drugs, with only 1 club remotely interested in meeting his demands.

i been trying to look for some recent positives in our list management choices over the last first years after yesterdays depressing results and i looked into some of our more complicated trades and picks swaps in recent years which i thought some looked good at the time to see how they turned out safe to say i did not find much comfort

so we rolled much of the Lever picks into the Gibbs trade which also impacted on the Mcgovern trade and picks swaps between Carlton and Gws in round about ways so i done a in and out on the effected deals over the years

so we have given up the following in those trades and pick swaps
2017 Lever, Pick 10(Obrien) and pick 16(Richards)
2018 Mcgovern, Pick 19(Stocker), Pick 24(Hill), Pick 33, pick 40 and pick 47
2019 pick 4(Ash), pick 11(Flanders), pick 26 (Gould) and pick 51 (Riccardi)
2020 pick 56

and we received
2017 Gibbs
2018 Pick 13(Mchenry) and pick 30(Hamill) and Mcadam
2019 Pick 6(Mcasey) and pick 27(Worrell)
2020 pick 9 pick 48

so thats going out
lever mcgovern 5x first round picks 4x second round picks 2x third round picks

and coming in
Mcadam Gibbs 3x first round picks 2x second round picks 1x third round pick

i will add this to a long time to work through and was pretty complex what do you guys think

Pick 16 and pick 19 are borderline early 2nd rounders.

AFL probably would never approve 23 and 50 for 8, but giving the Dogs a 483 point bonus is good incentive for them to trade with us.

I'd guess we'd need to do something like 23, 33 and 50 to get close to getting a full value on pick 8, even then I have my doubts if the AFL would allow it.

Surely the AFL simply require the bulldogs to have more points value to sign off. We get the higher end talent we're after and Dogs get extra points, even if only a few. Deal stands on its own feet and the not matching bonus can be ignored. Until club C tells the AFL that they offered even more points and then we might be in trouble.

More than 1 club tabled compliant offers. It was just that the Saints was the preferred.

That could work too, I just hope whatever we do he gets an entire year of footy injury free and not being moved about in different roles every other week.
I think its time Milera needs to reward the club for his lucrative contract and play the footy we all know he can and then he won't be moved all other the shop.

I’d still like the club to get whatever they can on Lynch and Seedsman now, and use that to push higher up the order or build a draft hand for next year (with strong SA representation).

my attitude is that if we’re going to hit the drafts we may as well make a splash.

thoughts?
At season end looked like Seedsman was no longer in Nicks plans so pretty positive they would take any trade for but happy to be back up wing and experienced SANFL player for last year at club.

Moving Lynch makes so much sense but given he won team mate etc, he must be highly rated with his work off the field so I just don't see us trying to move him unless he came to us unfortunately.

Where does everyone see Milera at next year? a lot of half backs came along toward the end of this year e.g .Mcpherson, Sholl, Hamil, does he slide back forward or move into the mids?
Ideally, going into the midfield and taking the next step in his career would be amazing. Agile, kicking skills etc would be perfect for our midfield.

That said, he may have also peaked as a player and what we've seen might be as good as it gets in which case it will be hbf/wing.

So if its true what we are hearing about list sizes being max of 38 senior and total of 44 players then we currently have
1, Jones
2. Murphy
3. Crouch
4, Gallucci (no cotract)
5. Kelly
6. Sloane
7. Poholke (no contract)
8. Seedsman
9. Talia
10. Walker
11. Mackay (No contract)
12. Brown
13. Hamill
14. Stengle
15. Crocker (Rookie No contract)
16. Framptom
17. McAdam
18. Worrell
19. McHenry
20. Schoenberg
21. Lynch
22. Keays (Rookie)
23. Laird
24. Milera
25. Fogarty
26. Smith
27. Himmelberg
28. McAsey
29. McPherson
30. O'Connor
31. Sholl
32. Doedee
33. Davis
34. Butts (Rookie)
35. O'Brien
36. Gollant
37. Strachan
Trade in Hately

So That is 3 Rookies and 35 Senior players. Assuming no contract to Gallucci, Mckay, Poholke or Crocker. Gives us 32 Senior and 2 Rookies. So 6 Draft Selections and 4 Rookie selections.

Am I right here

Current AFC players I think we will have on our list, in age order below.

Standouts for me are:
  • The top 7 are fine for experience (I'd move Seedsman on if we find a suitor)
  • Laird and Crouch are our only experienced players under 27 yrs
  • We do have some potential in that mid-20s age group
  • All of our young talent is very very short on games - will take 2/3 years of playing before they get their feet. Walsh's 50 game theory.

I'd be looking to trade Matt Crouch while there is a market and we are desperate to add more talented youngsters to come along together. If we get into the Dunkley deal with Essendon and Bulldogs - we should be able to get a future second and one of those low picks from Essendon by sending Mrouch to the Bulldogs.

Add in the points deal for WB's first and we can restock our list faster than expected.

I hear the crowd yell ... "but this year is a weak draft!" Not at the pointy end it isn't. There are always good players that come out of EVERY draft. We are going to be bottom 4 next year so we will have capital for 2021. I think we have shown that we can identify talent ... keeping that talent, well that is another discussion!!

I didn't realise Strachan was 25 already. He won't be afl ready for another year or 2 IMO.

Time to look at a younger option.

Maybe a simpler avenue for Matt Crouch would be to Geelong for Parfitt?

Parfitt has re-signed and said hes not going anywhere.

We need to dangle matt infront of GC and get their first. If they were willing to give it up for treloar.. maybe they’ll be interested in matt..

He’d be a good fit for them.. he can get the ball out of the contests into the hands of the waiting Rowell and Anderson who can then run and dispose of it much better than Matt..

For those ( including myself ) who wanted pick 2 or Brouch stays @ AFC to play, the exit statements from the club regarding Brad and Harto make it clear this was never an option.

“Kyle is the consummate team man, respected and liked by everyone at the football club and will always be a part of the Crows family,” “On-field, he has always played his role and to the team structures, while off-field he has achieved some tremendous things through his work with the Adelaide Crows Foundation.

“We wish Kyle, Emily and Hazel all the very best for the future.”

“We wish Brad and his partner Britney all the best for the future as they head to Victoria with many strong friendships from their time here,” he said.

Why? Parfitt isn't anything special/worth moving Crouch out for.

Strongly disagree. Other than the GF where he hurt his thumb badly in the 1st quarter, Parfitt was probably Geelong's best player in the finals.

He's the right age profile and the right skill set. I'd be offering him a big deal and doing everything I can to get him. It's a shame we are such a pathetic club.
If it was me, I'd be offering him a 5 year deal on $600k. In terms of trades, it would be the WB pick (if we got it) and nothing more. PSD threat ready and willing to be used. Geelong held us to the sword over Dangerfield. Time to return the favour.

Of course we won't even consider it because we think it is a love in and everyone should win.

The way I read it was trading Matt Crouch for Parfitt which I don't think is an upgrade.

As a free hit/giving up of draft picks, I'm more open to it, was more responding to a straight swap unless you also think that is a good deal?

I would definitely swap Parfitt for M Crouch. Wouldn't even hesitate.
Geelong would never do it. They would have to be completely insane to even consider it.
Right now Parfitt=MCrouch

By two years time? Parfitt>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>M Crouch
