Crouch is clearly all about the cash, doesn’t care where he plays as long as he gets paid. That worries me.

I don’t mind him as a player but just have to question his motives.

If Adel match I hope we walk away..

Why do feel like there is an itk watching this thread that’s has the news regarding Caldwell but won’t share....just do it..:either way at least we can finally know
Johny
Ghost
Jaxons
Brian

anyone!!!😅
Jeez your getting desperate asking old mate

Heard some poor arguments, but that is possibly the worst for a long long time. A fluke? Ok mate, yup we just chucked darts, never looked at players but just got ideas from the 2019 T&D threads from last year and "fluked" getting 5 players who walked into the 22, and managed to keep this years 1st in the process.

Yeah just lucky I suppose. Hilarious.

the only one that might have been a fluke , but i think we only found out late , was the Doogal howard trade.

Kane Cornes and SEN are saying we are now leading the race for Crouch.

Personally, I dont want him.

Given that it has only come about after all other options seem to have withdrawn their interest- (crows didnt table him anything at exit interview, port out, cats out etc) this bodes very well for us.

We'll have a strong hand in offering him a heavily performance based contract- exactly what we would want with a guy with suspect professionalism and extensive injury history.

Him at his best would be very very good for us though.
We wouldn't have to rely so much on ryder dominating to break even in the midfield every week.

The only issue potentially is that adelaides RFA compo is calculated on guaranteed money- so they'd likely say they will match to force a trade.

(Maybe we throw them dunstan as a straight swap?)

I hope we call their bluff and take the risk of not getting him- i don't reckon they are that interested in keeping him, and will talk a big game about matching an RFA bid- but in reality will just take the compo and move on.

Not sure I liked Cornes' comment that Crouch doesnt care where he plays he just wants the biggest contract. Doesn't sound like he's coming for the culture.

But just goes to show ...can go any club

Cornes never misses an opportunity to pot an Adelaide player, or anything to do with Adelaide

Brad Crouch would be our second best midfielder.

We don’t need him to be Lenny.
None of us wanted Zac Jones but when we say him, he was actually a gun when he wasn’t tagged. The biggest benefit of Crouch is that he gets a lot of the pill in contests (which we lack) and if opposition put time into him then a player like Jones can get free abs play like he did in the first half of the season.

Crouch isn’t the sexiest player for sure but kidding yourselves if he doesn’t make us a better player.

Not sure it was a fluke... it may just be the norm now that we have Ratts as a selling point & Gags to get the deals done.

I've been very meh about Crouch but as a FA he's a yes. At worst, he deepens our midfield. At best Ratts helps him rediscover his best (which is borderline elite). I doubt that the Crows match. They'll know that they won't get our first pick and even a band 2 compo will be a better result.
It was a perfect storm. No one predicted everyone coming in, gelling straight away and playing well above expectations they way that they did.

What we got was the exception, not the norm when making such drastic changes in one off season. We couldn't do it again that perfectly if we tried.

I dont see him as an improvement. I see him as another expensive, injury prone B grader thats makes our midfield more vanilla than it already is.
We don’t have much draft capital so it always made sense to chase a free agent and our main need is mids so crouch was always logically on our list.

The trealor talk imo is just that, this is the guy who publicly chose Collingwood over richmond with st Kilda not even in the picture. Now he’s contracted on a packet and will cost a pick or player we don’t have to loose so imo you can forget that. It’s arguable how much better he is than crouch anyway, their stats are pretty close.

Anyway a month ago I’d have said crouch and Caldwell without giving up much is a big A plus without doing much else. I know we haven’t landed anyone yet but I’ll be pretty pumped if that’s how it turns out. If we don’t land either then we’re probably in the dumpster looking for bargains like fiorini etc.

Anyone who does not rate Crouch's ability should take a look at the last 5 or so games for the Crows, after they got his brother back and moved Laird to the midfield - with the right support he dominated and the Crows peeled off a couple of wins.

Very much in the T.Mitchell accumulator mold - although not quite at the consistent heights.

The way some people are reacting on here, its like he has no ability at all. The guy can legitimately play.

Wether he fits our team and club ethos is probably a different matter.

I'm happy with Crouch if it doesn't cost anything, but you'd think Adelaide will match the offer if they're not happy with the compo.

I don't think the crows demands would be too onerous- if they were satisfied with a fringe player or two we're happy to move on (lonie? dunstan? etc) I'd still be happy, even without him coming as a FA

I think you're selling the club short. Credit where credit is due mate.

Things are heating up

Considering the perfect shitstorms that we've been forever stuck in over the history of the club, I'll take one that goes our way for a change.

He's better than a B grader. He's a high possession inside mid that would be a huge upgrade on Dunstan who is our most similar player. Over their careers he's averaged 26 possessions per game, Dunstan 19. He'd bring players like Hill into play as well. I'd prefer others but he also makes sense.

Perfect storm?

The club and Ratts even spoke about a possible slow start with a fast finish once they gel.

in an odd way, the Covid break probably helps with people gelling and getting out of their comfort zone + the Hub life. But they definitely felt like the freo and North fade outs were due to the”connection” of the group.

infact pre doggies training in round 2. Ratts was banging on about making sure our connection with each other is better etc.

I’ll say one thing. Whatever any of us want means little in the long run. As always I have complete faith that Gags, Gubby and Satan will get the job done - whatever that job is. If they rate Crouch and they get him as free agent - great. If they don’t rate him and move to someone else - also great. I trust they will make the right moves and if the right move is to make no moves then again I will trust that is the right path to take.
