Now Jye Caldwell has told the club he won’t be coming, we now have that extra money we planned to use on him to use on Crouch. That’s all there is to it. To those who fell for the Caldwell hype and posters just guessing about him coming. I am sorry, I tried to tell you. As a side note let’s not hammer Crouch yet, any player who has won a BNF at another club is more than welcome at ours. Give him a chance, could become a very very good player for us if deal goes through. Onwards and upwards!

First time long time... keen to get involved!
Jye will be coming home. book it.

Crouch is an absolute, stone-cold, no-brainer for us.

First and foremost, he’s a free agent; no picks to give up, that’s huge.

Second, we already have the outsiders to run and carry. What we don’t have enough of is the accumulators. And like him or hate him, no one can deny this bloke is one of the best few accumulators of the ball in the competition.

The third thing that is most pleasing is that when the Crows were the best team in the comp back in 2017, who was the bloke that excelled at the coal face in their final’s series, shoveling the ball out to their prime outside movers? B Crouch.

Perfect match for us and another great off-season moment for the club and supporters. We’re beginning to make a habit of this.

Right player, at the right time for the right price.

Was just think about this. Ross was ordinary early doors, but once teams started to sit on Jones (who tapered a bit) he came into his own. Ross is a total inside pig, needs a tiny bit of time and space to get up and going. Nearing the end of the season, was very hard to sit on all of Steele, Hanners, Ross and Jones so he got off the leash a bit and looked so much better.

Ross is not slow, but isn't as quick as Sinclair. Thinking he may be used in a Sinclair role, however Sincs uses the ball better and with Jones and Couch not renowned for their disposal by foot, I reckon he may have the edge on Seb. Really nice headache to have.

Ross got better once he started tagging again, thats where he is most Valuable to the team. He will have a spot on this team if Ratten see's that as a must in the Middle.

I don't get the "B&F" love. Here's some players who've won B&Fs at other clubs:

Bryce Gibbs
David Swallow
Eric MacKenzie
Mitch Robinson
Cale Hooker
Bernie Vince
Marc Murphy
Devon Smith
Jarrod Harbrow
Justin Westhoff
James Worpel

etc etc etc

Winning a B&F might just mean you were the best of a bad bunch, they have to give it to someone every year.

Good news to get Crouch across.

The bloke averages 5-6 clearances a game with absolute ease. We thought Steele was a god averaging 5 this year. The two will be very handy combo contributing ~10-12 clearances a game between them and Steele needs his support.

Important to keep in mind we weren’t great in the centre square this year and when we were it was often off the back of Ryder’s amazing ruck work and we’ll be lucky to get more than 1 more season out of him. A natural clearance-winner and ball-getter like Crouch is exactly what we need.

Without being a smart ass, the worst player on this list is Devon Smith who is a spud now but before injuries wasn’t bad.

If they were in their prime everyone else on the list would make us better.

I’m not sure the point you’re making here.

Blues are paying an extra 100-200k a year for Williams with the objective of transitioning him into a midfielder. Crouch is proven as a midfielder. Williams and Crouch both have durability issues that cancel each other out. There's been a lot of talk about Williams prelim game last year, but Crouch had an outstanding finals campaign in 2017.

Err..... look at your list again and tell me who wasn’t a good player at one point in there career on that list?

Getting less and less likely we get Caldwell now you'd imagine

100% there is space for both.
I was told that months ago.

but as I’ve said I know nothing about current state of play.

someone like Ben Brown might change that.

A bit sad that Brad is leaving Adelaide, and if this was a season or two ago I would have been a bit devo with another top player leaving the club

As it is now, though, the situation is different to most years and if you guys just open your wallets enough to say... $750k a year (and considering the lack of draft capital you have to pay) it'll be a a win for everyone

Keep him fit and he'll be most important part of your midfield

It'll be interesting to see where this leaves Ross. I've been a Ross defender at times, but Crouch is a pretty direct replacement for him really. Both are players that need to spend close too all their time in the midfield. Steele and Crouch will have to spots locked up. Jones, Gresham and Clark will need to go through there. I don't really see how Ross fits in.
Barring the West Coast game, Ross did a pretty good job tagging in the back half of the year and in the finals, he showed he was still one of our better mids.

Ratts has shown he likes targeting the oppositions best players so I assume the tagging spot is still there for Ross, especially if he can win the ball while doing so.

Only issue is that takes a spot in the middle away from someone dynamic, since Steele starts there no questions and thats the only place Crouch can play.

We have publicly said we never expected all 5 players to nominate us. And also said that we never expected all 5 players to work out as well as they did. Not even our recruiters expected these players to adapt and fit in so quickly. We picked up 5 players who we thought we help fill our needs. We didnt expect them to be as good as they were.

We picked up a VFL small forward who ended up being the best small forward in the comp this year. No one at the club expected Butler to be this good.

We picked up an ageing ruck who turned back the clock and played some of the best games of his career. No one expected Ryder to be as good as he was.

We picked up Jones, who primarily a wing/half back and started playing him in the middle. He was top 10 in the coaches votes mid way through the season. No one would have expected that.

It was magnificent. But if we tried that again 10 times, it wouldnt work out as perfectly as it did this year. It was a perfect storm and not something we should be expecting to ever happen again.
Butler was a premiership player
Ryder AA
Jones brother of and similar to 300 gamer Nathan
Howard ex Interim Port Captain
Hill 2 times premiership player

Pretty good exposed form on offer for all to see. Start of the year many posters were really against Paddy and predicting another wasted year.

Well you lot got that wrong. Always someone saying its a fluke well it wasn't. That's reality.

Crouch has torn us another one the last few times we played them thought at the time gee we could do with him...if he is best available Free Agent we grab him and run provided Trelor is off the table.
