I think it might be a case of hanners playing less games.

Ross was a shut down player for us in the 2nd half of 2020. Crouch sint coming in as a shut down player.

Hes coming in as a inside mid to win his own ball.

I think ross still has a starting place in that midfield as a stopper.

Hanners is the one who I think will be pushed out from the inside and will play more wing.
Probably suits him as well from a durability perspective ( if he can get on the park).

Crouch to help Carlisle keeping Saints culture alive I reckon.

A joyous tear just ran down the face of the ghost of Sam Fisher

If Adel agree to give us Pick 20 (will be pushed back) for Dunstan, I’d happily give Crouch enough to get them Pick 2
If the Saints do pay Crouch the salary/contract levels required to get the Crows Pick 2, possible there is a “sweetheart deal” with Dunstan going the other way for a second rounder and salary dump ?.

That high second rounder possibly lands Caldwell ?.

Pay enough to get Adelaide Pick 2.

Trade Dunstan, McKenzie and our 4th to Adelaide for Pick 20-22

Not a bad bit of business.

Keeps many possibilities open for the likes of Caldwell, Treloar, possibly even Ben Brown.

BCrouch - $'s, no draft picks, 26 possessions a game. No further discussion required.

Are we a chance for JDG if we’re looking past character flaws?
Apparently he is struggling to find anyone willing to pay him ANYTHING like the money he reckons he's worth.

End result will stay at Collingwood on no extra $$$'s.

Pretty sure we took a couple of salary cap dumps back in the early RL days. When Charlie Gardiner was added on to King was a definite one.

I'm honestly not even sure how much RL rated Dempster, or whether he was a salary cap dump alongside Shneider.

Sounds good.

Who did we beat to secure his services?

It doesn't really matter now I guess but it would be nice to know. It would put my mind at ease, that's all...you understand..

Crouch at his best is a whole different level to Gresh the mid.

there is a seriously good footballer who never quite consistently landed at that level for the crows.
But when he did you saw why he was a pre selection.

he isn’t a silky dal

he is what Luke Ball was like in 05 at his best. sh*t kicking and all at times. Accumulator with the ability to burst through packs with speed at others.

how about his injuries?

Barring the West Coast game, Ross did a pretty good job tagging in the back half of the year and in the finals, he showed he was still one of our better mids.

Ratts has shown he likes targeting the oppositions best players so I assume the tagging spot is still there for Ross, especially if he can win the ball while doing so.

Only issue is that takes a spot in the middle away from someone dynamic, since Steele starts there no questions and thats the only place Crouch can play.

I think people get a bit confused when thinking about spots in the midfield and look at the 3 traditional positions (RR, Rov and Centre) as 'the midfield'. The midfield in modern footy includes both wings and usually at least one of the half forwards, depending on the game plan. At any stoppage you may have up to 10 players from each team within 20m, so having multiple players who can get the ball and use it or stop the opposition from using it effectively is crucial.

Our midfield in those circumstances has been a bit lean... we're starting to build a group that can compete and win on both sides of a 'dead' ball.

On your other point, I reckon Crouch has spent a little bit of time forward. No reason why he goes to half forward at times. Put it this way, he's much more versatile than Dunstan.

We didn't have any money to take on salary dumps in those days. Our cap was proper fked.
