Do you think he’s a better prospect then Horne?

I don't, but there is zero chance of Collingwood not matching so it begs the question given they've traded their pick. They're not going to miss out on Daicos to pick whoever they can get with a pick in the teens (20's?) that they still hold just to gift Horne to GWS. It would be a nasty move by us but arguably zero risk. Given they gifted us Jaidyn last year though through their own incompetence maybe we'd take pity on them.

Can’t see us doing anything but playing a straight bat with pick 1. If we rate Horne as the best in the draft, we will just take him. Playing funny buggers with a bid on Daicos when he’s not our highest rated is an unnecessary risk.
I agree; these idle comments on here over the years about doing this or that to spite some other club - got whiskers on it. If we've got pick 1, and Horne is the best player - as you say, no funny buggers

Dead right mate . Imagine if we chose Daicos Magpies choose Horne and in 2 years time Daicos wants to go to the Magpies they end up with Horne and Daicos. I cannot imagine the name Daicos any were but the Magpies regardless of who he apparently barracks for. Even if we chose him and he left we may and that is may get a few great draft picks but are they going to be as good as Horne could may well be a very ordinary draft that year. Lets not muck around. Lets just worry about ourselves and not trying to shaft the Magpies or any other team.

Well, it won't happen and I am on record as having slightly dampened the hype after viewing young Nick, but I wouldn't be against drafting Dick Naicos with our 2nd pick if he had the same line breaking fitness & speed, even if that pick was pick 2.

It's not that I have settled on the kid necessarily being the 2nd best player, it's just that his skill set would suit "the process" very, very well.

The only benefit of a spoon is pick 1. Why take the sheen off that with making him pick 2 via a bid? If Horne is as good as promised marketing him as the best kid in the country, the clear #1 that plays for North, is a massive thing for us. I don't want to end up like Carlton with posters showing off our four pick 1s but you can attract a lot of (good) attention to your club with a up-and-coming kid like Horne, think Riewoldt for the Saints or Hodge for Hawthorn. I think it's just a shame we won't be able to give him 18.

Not yet anyway.

Thanks for the sound advice.......but, um, you sure Ether ?
Yeah, he looks good. I may be Robinson Crusoe on this but I'd be pretty happy to show some improvement, win some games (I think we play * again?) and pick a gun with 2 or 3. Horne may end up the best from his draft class or he may not. (Noting that Horne should look advanced compared to Vic kids who didn't play last year.) I'm sure some people would be unhappy about losing the chance to "walk someone to the PSD" but history says that isn't likely to happen anyway.

I reckon we look at Horne the same way some viewed Will Phillips. He's "bust proof".

Hawks the biggest threat IMO. When comparing our runs home:

North Melbourne - Hawthorn
GWS - Sydney
Brisbane
- Essendon
Gold Coast - GWS
Footscray
- Port
West Coast
- Fremantle
Essendon - Melbourne
Carlton
- Brisbane
Geelong
- Adelaide
Richmond
- Collingwood
Sydney - Footscray
Adelaide
- Richmond

The next three games will be quite telling from our perspective.
Hawks won't win another. We'll jag one along the way and be left in the unenviable position of cheering for or against the spoon in rd 23.

not to mention the fact that he's pick one gets a $10,000 bonus - can't imagine Horne would thank us for missing out just to spite Collingwood, who'd certainly match a bid, giving Daicos the glory (and the cash)

In my ideal world, we are 3 games clear bottom with 2 rounds to go and we smash the swans and crows in last 2 rounds with a stunning display from Phillips and LDU. Both rackin em up and Edwards getting on the end of some super delivery from Thomas and Jy. Paddy Walker has made his debut and his class is easily evident.

You'd have a point - except for the fact that they've traded their pick to another team. There is zero chance of them choosing Horne because he will not be available to them, their only chance of a pick at the pointy end of the draft is if Daicos is good enough and they get to match bids.

Not saying a Daicos bid is what we should do mind you, just pointing out that arguably it's risk free doing so. We should make the pies sweat either way... now would be a good time to suggest to them that they should be pushing the AFL to give better deals to Docklands tenanted clubs for example.

Also has a half back line of sons coming along in 10+ years
Speaking of sons, if our father-sons prospects come along as expected , we'll have the Harvey's, Pickett's, Simpson, Stevens, Harris, Grant, Makepeace's, McCartney's, Schwass, Rock, Crocker all coming through in the next few years. Obviously have Archer and Scott this year as well.
