I understand it's final look at draftees to see what their conditioning is like , and ball handling skills / kickingI genuinely wonder what the point of it is? Is a training session going to swing anyones mind on a draft pick? Surely not??
They aren't for the Vic Metro lads and the Vic Country lads one over in Bendigo wasn't run in ideal conditions either.when are they doing the vic combine?
Agree. At this time of year people become too focused on someone's height and weight and where they fit into another amatuer person's ranking.Does it really matter though if some people online think that Rachele is a slight reach at that stage of the draft? If that's who we want that's who we should get.
Doedee was considered a massive reach at his spot and people on this board were furious we didn't select Burton instead. I know who I would rather have now.
From memory I think the Bulldogs took Bont earlier than people predicted but I'm sure they're happy with that. In terms of small forwards Pickett was seen as a bit of a reach by those online a couple of years ago. I'm sure Melbourne are happy with him.
And by the sounds of things in terms of interviews from multiple clubs with picks around ours it seems that is the range clubs rate Rachele in.
Like I said, two-pronged key forwards the reason they didn’t require it in 2019/20. 2017 they had a higher than usual amount of guys in their premiership 22 that averaged a goal a game or more (Riewoldt, Martin, Butler, Rioli, Castagna, Townsend, Caddy)Yes they are .....who was the champion small fwd for RICH's 3 flags ?
Luke Bruest absolutely a key cog at Hawks .....and Akermanis was a key to BRIS's flags ......but you'd still have to admit it was the Hawks and Brisbanes midfield stars of Hodge, Rioli, Mitchell, Lewis, Burgoyne, Black, Voss, Power, and Lappin were the prime movers
you are going to pillar me for saying this, and I will qualify it by saying I have never seen Rachele play live, but the highlights package looks errily like a Jimmy Rowe style player. He spots up well, gets to the right spots at the level he is playing at, knows where the goals are - all things Jimmy did well at the EaglesWhy Josh Rachele is the most entertaining player in the draft
Draft prospect Josh Rachele shows why he's highly rated with some long goals and strong grabs.www.afl.com.au
Maybe go watch the footage from his 6 goal haul against the Northern Knights I posted yesterday.you are going to pillar me for saying this, and I will qualify it by saying I have never seen Rachele play live, but the highlights package looks errily like a Jimmy Rowe style player. I am suspecting he might have a touch more pace than Jimmy?
I did. I guess its because he is smaller and I remember Jimmy kicking bags too in the SANFL and looking like a world beater at that level. I just can't shake that image but I am sure I don't have anything like the full picture and as has been pointed out, he has interviewed multiple times with us, GWS, Hawthorn and a few others right at the pointy end of the draft so the guys who know obviously rate him very highly.Maybe go watch the footage from his 6 goal haul against the Northern Knights I posted yesterday.
Your correct with your comment regarding comparisons are always far off however I think there is a good purpose & reason for player comparisons in player pre-draft assessments.
So many fans of any sport take a lot of interest & in some cases more interest in the off-season part of the sport, this happens as it’s a surrogate activity or for the most part a distraction from our regular life. The level of interest conjoint with knowledge of all the strategic crevasses of high-level sports off season somewhat ranges, I do believe player comparisons are so important to help people who don’t get the chance to see these kids play live, have contacts that feed quality direct information or can make a good assessment from some highlight videos. It also helps build excitement in many that only elevates the reason & purpose for this so-called off-season surrogate activity that we take interest in.
Its not just comparisons that are wrong most the time its also the media reports, the phantom drafts and a lot of so-called industry experts are wrong. But it doesn’t matter, 30seconds after the draft pick selection is called that all pre-draft distractive homework really isn’t cognitively archived.
I would welcome more comparisons & feel we should be more created and assess more hybrid comparisons or best case/worst case such as:
Neil Erasmus is hybrid comparison:
Matthew Priddis through the Midfield with the leading patterns and contested marking skills of Jack Gunston
BEST CASE: Matthew Priddis (Taller)
WORST CASE: Hugh Greenwood (at his best)
Crow till I die made a reasonable observation, which didn't require another put-down .....maybe bring it back a notchMaybe go watch the footage from his 6 goal haul against the Northern Knights I posted yesterday.
And yes it's crystal clear you've never seen him play.
All good wayne. I value Mutineers input and he was not having a dig - not that I perceived - just directing me to some extra footageCrow till I die made a reasonable observation, which didn't require another put-down .....maybe bring it back a notch

LOL you telling me to bring it back a notch.Crow till I die made a reasonable observation, which didn't require another put-down .....maybe bring it back a notch
well I didn't see the edited part of your post..yep it was a dig as I only got the first sentence and replied to thathahaha what? Not a dig??? Geez some have drunk the Kool-Aid around here.
After Petracca and Oliver, Bayley Fritsch (fwd pocket) was pretty important this year.Yes they are .....who was the champion small fwd for RICH's 3 flags ?
Luke Bruest absolutely a key cog at Hawks .....and Akermanis was a key to BRIS's flags ......but you'd still have to admit it was the Hawks and Brisbanes midfield stars of Hodge, Rioli, Mitchell, Lewis, Burgoyne, Black, Voss, Power, and Lappin were the prime movers
You got to remember that the comparisons are more on style than the actual level of the player . It just helps people that haven’t seen the player picture what good traits the kid isExactly, how many players have been compared to Pendlebury because they are tall and skinny with a bit of a basketball background. None of them have come close
I’d be happy if we took Erasmus or Andrew at this pointWhat do we do if,
Gws take Callaghan
Gold Coast take Rachele
Gibcus come the next best option in my opinion, but not a need
Unless some kid shows up 10 kg overweight, I don't see what it can possibly add.I understand it's final look at draftees to see what their conditioning is like , and ball handling skills / kicking
But I agree, given the timing of recent state based combines, not much would have changed
I think the main purpose is to see how the different kids present physically and also any height changesI genuinely wonder what the point of it is? Is a training session going to swing anyones mind on a draft pick? Surely not??
Neither have I but some of the Rachele potting on this board is next level, across the entirety of his junior career he clearly projects as the superior player prospect of his type in this draft and if Hamish thinks he's the best available talent when our pick comes around so be it.Even though I haven’t got him at best available at pick 4 I’m warming to the idea of us drafting Rachele just so some posters can eat humble pie
some just have the wrong idea of what he brings to the table
just have a look atwhat we’ve drafted in since 2017 in the way of mid/small forward type players in the 175-185cm range.
Pedlar 183cm
Berry 182cm
Jones 181cm
Mchenry 179cm
Rowe 173cm
Schoenburg 182cm
Keays 185cm
