Stuck in Melbourne so I haven't been following the ticketing process closely, but what was the club's alternative here?

Could they have made the first allotment available only to Platinum or higher members, and then the second only to Gold and Silver?

Perhaps the AFL dictated that the second selling period had to nominally give access to the general public, even though 15k was always going to be hoovered up by members? In that case the way that they did it ensured that all tickets would go to members of some level as long as the demand was there (I am assuming here that Platinum or higher members probably wouldn't reliably snap up all 15k tickets, but I am not sure of the stats there).

Reading the club’s statement on the matter, yes they could have:

Today's covid 0 was the 19th consecutive 0 . Some people are trying to say by Friday's announcement it will be 23rd day and that will magically mean thousands of extra tickets will be released. It wont happen. The AFL have said no more tickets before Thursday.

If they do release them on Friday I will call every talk back radio program - current affairs and sports ones - and say we have a pemier, a CMO and chief copper who have shit for brains who have stuffed around thousands and are making illogical ad hoc decisons - and ask others to ring in if they agree that the 3 amigos have shit for brains and to let them know we aren't happy.

If we win on Friday night then the PF tickets will go on sale on Monday 6th September. On Saturday night 4th when the 2 SF winners are known, then that will be day 31 of consecutive 0's if there is no outbreak. Will that be enough to convince the 3 Amigos to allow 30k or 40k or will they say oh only 18,328 is a safe number to stop us catching the virus?

If anyone wants tickets to Friday night, try hospitality packages!

There is close to 2,000 seats in that lot of corporate tickets in the total of15,000 allocation, and given the 32 x 18 people Superboxes sold by the SMA for $130k+ for 12 months, thats around 2,500 of the 15,000. Geelong members probably purchased close to 2,000 tickets and who knows how many were allocated to the AO Football members, so you can see how PAFC only members got their hands on only 9,000 to 10,000tickets.

Another question is that we can see from the ticket sales that they have opened up level 5 riverbank where they didn't before. This surely equals more seats?

Maybe.

If they are going for one row sold but 2 empty rows then that means 45k of the 50k seats have to be "used" to get to 15k.

For the Carlton game I went and visited my sister in 136 before the game and only 1 row was vacant then 1 row full and so on. I got seats at the back or 330 and the 2nd half of that aisle it was 1 row full then 2 vacant rows.

Bang on. It’s bollocks some of invest up to three times what others do in memberships and don’t get a higher priority in a situation like this.
There's never been additional priority for finals.

If it was a ful stadium without COVID restrictions, everyone would also be competing with General Admission members for tickets.

What a pissing contest this has become.
For the semi/pf those who missed out today will have priority over those who go Friday.
Just like last year.

That didn’t happen last year. And it would be a disgrace if it did.

Yep 15,000 is false advertising. Agree with your suggestion of 9-10,000 only be available.
Pay more money = get more privileges, it’s not that hard to understand, is it? it’s life, deal with it.

The fact we’ve gone down the route of everyone gets equal rights to finals tickets and you are literally relying on ticketek luck to get a ticket is just going to entice people not to pay a premium for those privileges. Potentially costing the club money.

I know I’m personally questioning the value of my memberships.

One of the main reasons I pay a premium is for gf access and we all know that is a pipe dream. And when you can’t even get a home QF ticket, what’s the point.

Questioning my membership too. Paid big money for jackshit this year. Very very unhappy.

All things considered, hats off to the AFL for sticking to the program even with these abundantly cautious bureaucrats making things even more difficult than they should be. Truly would have thought that the AFL would have abandoned ship by now and cast us into the "too hard, see you in Perth" basket.

What a shitshow though. The AFL / club should have more categories for a start. 1870 and ambassadors are a small group, so with 15k it should have been 1870 / club ambassadors / Platinum, 10 - 12, Gold 12 - 2, 2 - 4 Silver. After that, good luck everyone else.

Ticketek runs as offering tickets for events that sell out quickly regularly. How on earth are they not set up to surge bandwidth / processing capacity at these times? I'm sure they are based in one of the cloud services, where you can easily do this.

And of course SA Health and our overly cautious leaders.

A clusterfu** from start to finish.
You forgot Black Diamond who are higher in cost than Platinum

Anyone who has a SACA membership and hasn't got tickets don't forget the SACA game day tickets go on sale at 9am today. A little pricey but food and drinks package helps make up for it.

Where would've you drawn the line? If the categories were any different than they were for this game, you would've ended up with some members bundled up with the general public. In that case, they would also feel that having a membership was worthless. And there are probably more 3-game, silver or gold members than Club1870 or platinum, so the club made the choice that was thought to be appropriate. It's another case of damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Yes, it sucks to pay for the top-level membership and miss out on finals tickets, but I assume you get other benefits of being a club1870 or platinum member.

Wouldn’t having silver members in priority 2 instead of priority 1 be a fairer approach?

It means that BD & Platinum get the benefit they’ve paid for and Silver members still get an opportunity to get a ticket once the first window is closed.

What was the clubs reasoning in including Silvers in the first window?

Would you have expected every membership category that didn't have grand final

I was about to post a similar view.

Outside the club buying the full allocation and then onselling the tickets on a case by case basis (which I doubt the club has the time and resources to get this done in such a small window) there was always going to be unhappy fans.

They could offer something back for those that missed. From memory the club was offering a credit to 2022 members if they missed the Carlton game. Potentially may need to look at ways of offering something back to those that missed this Friday night, scaled according to their membership.

E.g. GA members get upgraded seats or merch.
Black Diamond get game day experience etc.

However even that is hard to plan for when there's still a likelihood of covid restrictions into 2022.

Few other random thoughts we were 1 kick away from only having 1 final this year.

Members from Swans, Dee's, Dogs etc must be shaking their heads at us at least some of us get to go. Only Lions members are better placed.

When I signed up this year I told the lad we'd be lucky to get 8 games. We ended up only missing the Collingwood game.

I paid up for granny guarantee across all our memberships but really only saw that as a donation to the club. Still not convinced that we'll get that entitlement.

I'm not sure what feeling would be worse.

Being a BD/1870 member and missing out on a ticket to a silver member. Silver members still support the club financially.

Being a gold member and missing out on a ticket to Joey Facebook who's never had a membership and got lucky getting a ticket as part of the general public.

You'd have a lot more furore over the second one.

I guess that is what the club’s thinking was. Get as many financial supporters in the first priority window as possible. Which is reasonable.

Still stings though. I’ve got five memberships all up, four platinum and one black diamond, but couldn’t even get a single ticket. Missed out on the Carlton game as well.

At some point, I’ll need to consider if the investment is worth continuing with if the chances of getting a ticket to prime games reverts to chook lotto every time.

What was the clubs reasoning in including Silvers in the first window?
To give all members a priority. There were only two windows, priority or general public. The club had to make a hard choice and decided to prioritise all members over a handful of high-paying members. There was always going to be backlash but I think it would've been stronger if the other approach had been taken.

edit: what Macca19 said.

Allowance for a Gen Public take up was never going to be required.

Could have split it BD/1870/Platinum and Gold/Silver?

Personally I've managed to secure a ticket thanks to Arsene Wenger. Thanks Legend.

But as someone that originally missed out, I'm not for 1 second angry about priorities. I'm angry that the ticketek process is absolute garbage.

The fact that I was on there for 2 hours clicking next pointlessly, because some other people were scoring a ticket sporadically, after it was apparently sold out, is just ridiculous. The system is an absolute shambles. Not only was it completely unclear that all tickets were sold at any point, but the one message that it was showing was totally incorrect, because people kept getting tickets. Worse still, during those 2 hours of clicking next, at one point I did actually get 1 ticket. Unbelievably though I got it with 41 seconds left on my timeout clock and I could not purchase it, or hold it to my logged in account, and so I lost the ticket!

To then hear people are still getting tickets nearly 30 mins later is just insane.

The whole site and it's process is just such a phenomenal shambles.
