Last year we passed and matched bids on Walker and Western.
Last year this annoyed me as we missed out on Winder who we could have taken,
With that pass, but this year I woke up to what our draft team were doing.

They wanted to take either/both Walker + Western as cat b’s.

The same risk applies to Benning this year if we take all 5 picks without taking
Benning then anyone who still has a vacant list spot can bid on him, + if we have taken all 5
we are caught short.

If we take Winder we likely end up with 37 on the senior list and having already promised a rookie spot to Banfield, Treacy is not on our list.

I’m not complaining.

Also my memory might be off a bit but I’m pretty sure we didn’t pass before a Walker bid, only before Western. Walker seemed to really slide on draft night, when at one point we were worried about him going as early as late first round (which looks to be a much better representation of his ability)

Again I’m not complaining.

Greetings peeps, jeebus cripes 735 pages 😲

Anyway, I’m curious about the Rachelle to Fremantle talk. Any legs to it?

Sort of seems a bit left field to me, unless you’re recruiters are looking strongly at the 2019 U16 championships, and imagining Toby Greene 2.0, without sillyness (will need to be taught to defend and pressure).

Are you seriously suggesting we should base our drafting, where you are hopefully getting a player for 10 years plus, on what happens this Christmas?

Well it has to be a consideration what type of pre-season are they going to get.

2 weeks quarantine straight away for a 18 year old who has never been in a professional sporting team environment will have him on the back foot straight away not including his mental well being.

Plus do you reckon draftees outside of WA will be keen to move to perth and have to endure 2 weeks of quarantine when more then likely no other state will have to.

It has to be condsidered and if i am freo i am leaning towards WA bases draftees this year

I don’t know why some are saying Benning hasn’t done much???
He had a consistent season - especially for a ruck growing into his body.
Had huge impact in the Colts GF and imo exceeded expectation in the state games, his aggression and repeat efforts are next level - just gets gassed as his body is trying to keep up with his want to contest.
Big leap, one clunk grab and a neat kicking technique - lots to work with - just adjusting to his body.

We passed before both

We passed and then Walker was bid on then we passed again and Western was bid on

EDIT: A correction, we didn't pass before Walker but we traded down picks twice to split them when we could have used a higher pick in the draft, we ended up wasting multiple picks at the end of the night due to this, technically didn't pass before Walker but we basically did, definitely passed before Western, hoping to sneak him through to the Cat B

yes, a lot of footy false prophets in here taking a punt....and not putting in the time to nut things out. But that's okay if the club doesn't do the same ;)

Motlop Is the one that gets me...I like what I see and maybe a lot of upside but can't see his being in the first thirty without a big gamble. Think we will pick Benning ...suspect he is already planned re the picks.

the value of Logue as a past top ten pick has taken up 500....nothing better to do

Your right it was just Western but at the time I was peeved, but I was wrong they were
right.

The drafting since Lloyd left has been very good.
My only complaint is with trading of players.

We need something to look forward to. Where are you hearing about Rachele?

I don’t think our drafting has been good enough to win a flag tbh. We’re way too positive about it around here.

Outside of 2016 and probably 2020 (too early to tell but I’ll go early on Walker and Treacy), we’ve barely had any hits outside the top 15 of the draft - Schultz is probably the only one.

Yes absolutely it will not be a consideration in any way.

2017 we should have taken Naughton …Lloyd leaves
2018 could have had Rozee not recruiters fault
2019 gun drafting in the main…. (It could have been tactically better)
2020 very good considering deficit
The lottery picks have done pretty well Schultz as you say, Treacy gold as a rookie, Walker nga looks very good,
Bewley a bust, Valente wait + see same for Sturt, Dixon lazy, Crowden serviceable, Jones + Meek scatter gun approach.

I had a look at the names after these not much to complain about.

Trading players a different story!!!!!

Give credit where it’s due.

To be honest, I can’t see it.

Based on available Vid I’m not sure he is a top 10.

Edited to 10 not 20.. phat fingers :-(

I’ve made another post with Poll who to draft at pick 6.

Have a look.

Surely not, I assume if they are poached then it would have to be on the full current contract otherwise it would get messy.

The contract would be off-setting so we would be obliged to pay the balance.

Kinda feels like the club is dropping a few smoke grenades to throw people off.
original message from the club was speed (which we got with Clark) and forwards. Of course if we can get a Callaghan, Erasmus et al, we will, quality mids who can play forward are too juicy to ignore.

the games are afoot people, the intrigue, separating false rumours from truths.
