I like traffic lights……….I mean Cerra.

We haven’t seen Carroll front an$ centre yet - Maybe Carroll and our 2nd, which will be in the 20’s probably.

Id give up our first and Carroll for Cerra and Brayshaw/Young.

Or trade Cripps - coz Healey on the replay just said he’s going out with Cindy Ozmosis. Apparently she doesn’t look good?? - savage.

Cerra is not hopeless, but he is hardly going to be the difference for us.. My question is would you rather give up pick 5 and probably a future 2nd and 5 years at $750-800k for Cerra... Or give up nothing and 4 years at $800k for Josh Kelly..

Why has Cerras price gone up to $750-$800,000? Reports have Freos offer at $3M over 4 years and ours at less than that, i also don't see why his trade value will be that high, similar trades are done a lot cheaper.

Kelly has a $1M per year long term contract at GWS and has been offered $1M by the Roos, why would he accept $200,000 per year less and a shorter contract, to come to a club that is worse than the club he is at?

The same reason Dylan Shiel picked Essendon, he wants to return to Melbourne and would prefer to go to a team likely to have success.. Of the Melbourne clubs it will only be North offering close to 1mil, also dont under estimate the appeal of playing for a big club, playing in big games at the MCG.. North will never have that, which is why they have to pay players like Polec $650k to come.

Kelly @ 8 years for 8.8m? I mean they need to spend the money coz of their cap but thats not the way to go about it. If they got him in for 850-900 a year then you pull the trigger.

Take us out of the equation for sure. I think we’ve seen in patches this season we need senior/seasoned players who can play their role very well and add to team cohesion with the developing players we have on the list whilst picking up gems in the 20s and beyond in the draft if we trade our first. Every off season has been important in the rebuild - but I think it can be argued that this one and the next could take us places if we hit the nail on the head with everything in a list sense.

Shiel didn't walk away from a 6 year, $6M contract to go to the Dons, he did ignore North, who offered considerably more.

I don't see Kelly leaving his deal at the Giants, unless he's getting a very good deal here.

If its $800,000, then im all for it,

we would be more likely to get Cerra at $500k over 4 year then Kelly at $800k over 4.

Kelly would not join on 4 years, so I am not sure why you are suggesting it. He has a guaranteed 8 years at GWS, hence Norf with the big offer..
With Cerra you trade SPS and possibly another player plus 2nd rounder. The problem with Cerra is his asking price which Freo are likely to match.

Obviously we don't know how the salary cap is looking, but wouldnt think we have a huge amount of available cap space given last years investments in ZW and Saad which was off the back of Jack Martin. With the resigning of Crippa and H etc, should only be replacing Murphy next season.

I'm not sure Cerra makes us that much better especially when there are cheaper options floating around. The question to ask is will he help us win a flag? He's not Lachie Neale.

Smarter recruiting was Oscar McDonald last season despite the injury. His brief appearance was very encouraging, and seemed to fit our needs better.

Moody, what do you mean match? He’s not a FA and he’s had a big $ long term deal on the table from Freo for months, with Freo stating, the balls in his court.

Most will probably disagree but I feel like Tim O'Brien as a FA would be a shrewd list management move.

Would be very cheap and can play back or forward. We have no insurance whatsoever now (other than Oscar who I definitely think deserves another year, really liked his couple of games as a forward and relief ruck), and I think he's good enough to come in and play to a decent standard when we cop injuries.

Has there ever been any indication that Cam Guthrie is gettable? There have been murmurs that Billing’s is gettable and Kelly, other than these guys, the FA cupboard is pretty bare this year
Guthrie would be a great addition, also for the potential to keep around as an assistant coach in future. Would be a good leadership/culture fit. But really can't see him ever leaving Geelong.

I’d also chase Miller or Hooper if they remain unsigned, not so high profile but both have grunt and good skills set which we need in the engine room.
I think Cerra too, would be a great addition, long term investment
tough & durable, good skills, especially decision making and ball delivery.
Touk Miller would fit in really well

Ok... here we go.
Has not played in 2+ years. If and when he does come back he will be a shadow of his former self. One knock to that knee could end his career.
We put DEK to CHF, he will be a sensation. He moves well, strong mark absolute champion in the making.
Playing devils advocate. If we did want to move Charlie on it’s only because our physicians said we are better off moving him on, and then whoever we want to trade him to’s physicians will say ‘he is too risky to part with too much currency.’

if he is as cooked as you think he is then we would still be better off retaining him.

When it comes to our list moving forward there are a couple of areas for me that I wonder about.

Ruck. I actually think we already have our Cas replacement in TDK as a ruck-fwd. I see a project ruckman in Mirkov, and a backup ruckman in Pittonet. I'd actually like us to have a ruckman in the Sean Darcy mould. Is this one we could trade for? (And I am not speaking of trading for Darcy as he has just re-signed. But is there someone else available?)

KPD replacement for Jones. I think Liam is one of those unique big men of 200cm because of his excellent acceleration and speed, and his ability to spoil. I don't think that's easily replaceable. I hope he doesn't start getting those calf injuries for a couple of years, and so I am wondering if this is one to look for in the draft this year to develop.....

Pending what he demands for remuneration , let’s not forget there’s difficulties getting Gov & Marchy & Cunningham on the Park too , for half a season uninterrupted.
These 4 players absorb a considerable part of our salary cap, reckon that by end 2022, it’s got to be sorted out, just untenable.

That being said, if was about the risk/ reward on injury prone players for salary cap reasons; would Charlie be the one you would cut out of those 4 names? Easily the most talented.

I’ve always liked Ladhams from Port.
Reckon he can really play but is stuck behind Lycett.
Port also have 2 other young ruckman on their list i believe so maybe Ladhams could be shaken loose.
I guess the going rate would be a 2nd rounder ?

I’m not convinced cerra is worth the $ he’d cost
Josh Kelly. I’d drive up, pack up his house and help him move.
I think Coniglio is very gettable. He’s got 5 years to go on his contract. We could secure him with gws paying a lot of his money.
Gws need the cap space and he’s behind
Taranto, Hopper Green and they have more kids coming.
Worth a discussion.

Not a lot of money coming off our cap in the near future.
Murphy this year, maybe 500~600k ?
Betts wouldn’t be on much.
Casboult would be on chips.
Curnow probably goes around again.
McGovern … contracted for 2 more years ?
Hope to see improvement in most of the rest of the list as they mature and they will need to be remunerated accordingly.
Cerra might well be out of reach, both salary and trade wise.
Reckon the draft is our friend …

That's assuming everyone is on deals where there's no notable change in value year-to-year. We know Martin could be dropping by a much as 500k+ (or more) from his front-loaded year(s) compared to the end of his deal... combine that reduction with Murph retiring and it could be 7 figures.

Wouldn't surprise me if our earlier big signings (McGovern, Weitering extension, etc) where also front loaded deals, signed at a time when SOS had taken his knife to the list to trade assets and fix the completely f***** TPP/cap.

We really have no idea of what's actually going on with contracts, only that we've allegedly got 105% (after going under for a couple of years) and that Williams+Saad+Martin could be getting paid anything from $1.9M to $786T. Then there's the KPI/incentive parts of the contracts which is another set of unknown variables (but I think it's fair to say someone like Gov, Charlie or Marchbank probably aren't hitting all their targets to max out their payments).

Right you are.
Just hoping this list takes off from next year going forward.
If it does, it’ll co$t accordingly …
