Would love to get Josh Rachele in this years draft. He sounds like a gun small forward. Apparently is the best kick in the draft. We've been lacking in this area, and will get worse once Murphy retires. He's a Carlton supporter and has already spent a week training with the club. Knightmare has him at 5 and Twomey at 7 in their current rankings, so most likely will be gone with our 1st pick, but would be a great replacement for Betts. Kicked 6 goal for Murray Bushrangers last week!!

Welcome bookah !

2x play - #1 Ruck and a Foward/Ruck (Levi Replacement) - (TDK could play either role)
2x back up - Pittonet & Mirkov (Developing)

Reckon Ladhams fits the bill nicely.
Could work well with TDK.
Our 2nd rounder gets it done ?
Pittonet gives the reserves the legitimate ruckman they need and is not completely hopeless in case of emergency.
Mirkov is the project shot at the stumps.

For me there are several questions.

1) Who retires at the end of the year? Cas and Murph for sure. Both Ed and Eddie still offer something, but is there a time to make way for others? I'm really conflicted here, as you could make a case for keeping both...

2) Ruck. We will need another ruckman. I'd prefer trade for another ruckman ready to go (eg: trade for someone like Ladhams or Meek or Lynch). But would they be a sufficient upgrade on Pittonet?

3) KPD. There is also the need to prepare for replacement of Jones. Do we seek to get someone in this year's draft? Cal Twomey has Josh Gibcus as his no.6 in phantom draft. Chris Doerre has him #19). Is this KPP an early draft pick, or do we go a later pick?

4) Midfield depth. I asked a question about this in another thread and the big takeaway for me was to be reminded of David Cuningham. With Dow and Kennedy showing something (albeit a glimpse of possibilities), and if DC can recover well, and with others already, do we desperately need more here (like Cerra)?

5) Draft/Trade strategy. This is the real question area for me. Quite honestly, I have no idea. I liked how we got Martin, Williams and Newnes as FA/without draft picks. Sure, they cost more in terms of $, but allowed those picks in draft.

The big question for me, given the above is, do we go for someone like Cerra (who I think would cost more than simply our first round pick) or keep draft picks this year? I'm more inclined to keeping draft picks, seeking to draft best available (keeping in mind what I see as a need for some KPD depth), and trying to snare a good FA/RFA if possible.

Absolutely snare Adam Cerra if there’s a possibility, I’d trade SPS or Fisher and next year’s 1st.
Dangle a very juicy carrot to the youngster , Adam is all class with good upside too, Cripps, Walsh and Cerra create a formidable foundation, the cream can be added later.
Adam should remain un contracted, nominate CFC and negotiations will be much easier, especially given our ladder position which I expect will be in bottom 5/6.

Worth noting we can potentially grab Dom Akuei as our NGA prospect in the draft. He's a bit of an undersized ruck/mobile tall (playing for

You'd expect TDK or Pitto to play no. 1 ruck so we probably need relief in the form of a tall forward that can ruck. In other words, a Levi upgrade!

We're short on tall backs and we tried to address this with Parks and would have hoped Marchy would stay fit and now have Kemp playing there. My guess is this is our biggest gap in the list and will be addressed by trade/draft.

Good post and discussion.
The mystery bag as far as strategy goes is Kemp.
What are the clubs plans for him ?
He has slotted in down back on return but that may be just easing him back into footy … who knows.
The key position posts definitely need addressing and that would be my priority with our premium available currency eg, our 1st rounder, whether that be via trade or draft.
I really like Ladhams as a ruck/forward.
He’s 23yo and 203cm, he can take a nice grab, kick a goal and he’s got a bit of campaigner about him.
He’d be a great partner for TDK and he’s ready to go now.
Being stuck behind Lycett and with Port having 2 other young rucks on their list, Ladhams might be gettable with our 2nd rounder.
We’ve invested plenty of currency in our midfield and i reckon we’ve got to fully back that in now.
Another pre season with natural maturity and development should see enough of these guys make the grade as genuine AFL quality midfielders.
Murphy, Casboult definitely retire and probably also Betts.
Owies having a good introduction this season and Durdin will need opportunity.
The transition from Curnow is underway but he has great qualities to offer in a developing footy club.
Wouldn’t he make a great reserves captain and break glass option.
The list is nearly ready to go, just some finishing touches and general ongoing maintenance required.
Get the football department sorted at seasons end and there’s much to look forward to in the future…

Well hello there.

You are the very definition of longtime, first-time.

Sam Hayes as a ruck?

The ruck situation it a funny one because I imagine anyone that we would be happy with will want a reasonable amount of money.
i don’t mind someone like Ladhams but he has kicked 4 goals from 9 games this year and 6 from 10 last year. Nothing wrong with that but if we actually plan on TDK being a ruckman then Ladhams playing forward is abit of guess work. This will be true of pretty much all of our options.

On delistings, i think our hand could be forced with a few of the players. Someone like LOB for example might get offered 2-3 years at somewhere like North or possibly even Geelong so it’ll be what we are willing to do imo. SPS, Setterfield, JSOS could all be in the same boat. They could be valued higher by someone else who are willing to offer them what we perceive as overs
