He either needs a big boot up the backside for delivering absolute RUBBISH or moved on as he is making it clear to supporters he has no interest. IF he is failing it is because of coaching and management- has all the ability to be a very good player - it is on Carlton that he is delivering the absolute ROT he is.Geez... So many are so quick to write off Setterfield.
Didn't Oscar only come on the list once Charlie went down so essentially we are still 3 KPPs down from where we were last year.McDonald?
Among other things, yes. It's the job to make those sorts of forecasts.what the list manager should have done:
- foreseen how draft prospects would turn out
- foreseen how traded out players would improve
- foreseen how traded in players would stagnate
- foreseen long term injuries and drafted for coverage
- foreseen how rule changes would impact the game
- foreseen covid
- drafted any player that has developed well somewhere else rather than any he drafted
- drafted only match-hardened, ready to go 18 year olds
- drafted only players bigfooty posters approve of
- wrangled complex, multi-player trades where carlton receives numbers of stellar performers at little to no cost
Hopefully has a chance to play in his natural position on Sunday now.He either needs a big boot up the backside for delivering absolute RUBBISH or moved on as he is making it clear to supporters he has no interest. To be fair most of the footy he was drafted from by SOS and co was playing back and probably the most exciting footy he played in the champs was forward. He looked handy in the midfield but I wouldn’t say he excelled. You could easily make the argument that playing him in the midfield is the most out of position from what he had produced at junior level and perhaps his growth spurt hurt his ground ball game? I’d love to see what he can do in the midfield but I wouldn’t say he is being played out of position.I'm strangely annoyed at hearing this ...why?
Austin is one of Liddle's 'shiny new toys' - just like his mate GM Football Llyod. Let's talk facts this is Austin's track record - signing Williams on as the mid we needed - only to see him play as a HBFer - where he has played all his career. Kemp doesn't have a 'career' - he was a highly rated draft prospect before he did his ACL - and he did it playing as a highly rated midfielder - so Kemp comes to Carlton and when he gets over his ACL is slotted into a back six role ...
What is it with Carlton and the obsession with having a list of defenders - bit no coverage for KPP defenders FFS. A set of puny runty mids running around in VFL - look at the size of them - none of them will impact at AFL level as genuine mids for years - as they all develop running pattens - running around as individuals ina. team with NO KPP players to give any structure - no wonder they all loook like they need to get more involved - so little structure that all they can do is run themselves ragged.
Obsession with skinny runts continues and we pay for it week in week out and look to 'buy in' some other Clubs hand me downs - and expect them to be any better than they were in previous Clubs - whilst totally mucking up the development of high draft picks- who were high because they showed talent in their positions in the first place - but NO at Carlton everyone is a defender and then magically morphs into a mid at some stage.
Just this week we hear that the CLub has admitted that Dow has been over 'coached' - and that this has 'arrested his development' - how many other players have been trying to satisfy nuff nuffery at Carlton - who were the idiots that 'over coached the kid' and why are they still there?
Those VFL 'reports' are laughable tbh - I watch the games and see too often - very little substance about what actually transpired on the field- and when you do get the accidental substantial truth leaking out - as in Williamson having to work on a few things ( after he played a usual shocker) - they get magically removed from the original report - after he is selected ahead of bloke with much better form than he had - eg Ramsay - or blokes like Newnes get selected with crapola form in VFL - compared to eg Honey.
FMD - what a nonsense.
All comes from a sense of desperation around the coaching department to keep their jobs- which are only under question - because they coach in silos - our transitional play both ways is pathetic. Too many players worrying about meeting their own KPI nonsense in a team game and playing so obviously to rubbish coaching instruction in order to keep their positions - all year a bunch of individuals doing individual things.
If Teague is under pressure it is because he has ceded responsibility for all the lines at Carlton to nuff nuff line coaches and their idiotic idiosyncratic preferences - we don't have a team game - we have a clumsy experiment on display each week.
Saad ( gets a pass) /Williams/Martin/McGovern - these blokes haven't improved on field peformance- and yet all of them came to Carlton as better players than what they have shown since arriving - something seriously amiss at Carlton seriously amiss.
/end dump.
Fair enough - would rather see him in the forward line then - we have a thousand defenders atm. Can he kick a goal though is the $64 question? To be fair most of the footy he was drafted from by SOS and co was playing back and probably the most exciting footy he played in the champs was forward. Yeah, Kemp was not drafted on positional basis because apparently played many different ones in under age footy. Just like Charlie Curnow he was seen to have huge potential to be anything but first and foremost he was drafted for his talent. Lots of other were drafted purely on talent shown in youth as mids that been played elsewhere rather than what they were drafted for. Cannot say same thing for Kemp. Still do not know where he going to develop because he just back from not playing footy for nearly two years as a kid. Easing him in across half back where less turning probably is the right move first up.To be fair most of the footy he was drafted from by SOS and co was playing back and probably the most exciting footy he played in the champs was forward. Well it looks like match selection wasn't impressed with Setterfield's efforts last week - non starter.Hopefully has a chance to play in his natural position on Sunday now.
Personally I would love to see him in the midfield who rests forward because I think that’s where I he could become a true star of the game if it all clicks. At virtually 6’5 though he could easily become a Lever/Moore type hybrid which teamed with Weitering could be a pretty formidable duo and not waste his talent.Fair enough - would rather see him in the forward line then - we have a thousand defenders atm. Nah, list managers only deal in stats and player positions, anyone should know that - carry on, Carlton. What, no foresight...
Geez what kind of list manager do we have then??? Training wheels![]()
Id like to put Cam Guthrie on a wingThere is a few good OOC players still,
if our recruiting department are any good, they could really clean up this year

Geez... So many are so quick to write off Setterfield.
5 years is not quick
Agree, improvement is not always linear. It is when the first 2 years were almost entirely written off due to injury.
Hasn't even played 50 games yet. Walsh has more games up his sleeve, SPS who was taken one pick after has twice as many games under his belt.
Wait and see for me personally, think there's something there.
I was not impressed with much of anything last week.Well it looks like match selection wasn't impressed with Setterfield's efforts last week - non starter.
I thought Kemp played most of his junior footy in the back half, where he is now, and had only done a short stint in the middle with a little bit as a forward.I'm strangely annoyed at hearing this ...why?

He needs to be played as an inside mid. Simple. That's his game.He either needs a big boot up the backside for delivering absolute RUBBISH or moved on as he is making it clear to supporters he has no interest. IF he is failing it is because of coaching and management- has all the ability to be a very good player - it is on Carlton that he is delivering the absolute ROT he is.
He fumbles a hot footy and isn't great with perceived pressure - he isn't an inside mid in the traditional sense. He needs to be played as an inside mid. Simple. That's his game.
We have a dearth of slow inside mids. They all don't fit
knee injury needs (hee hee) to be taken into account but he's been in the system 5 years (minus injury) another carlton player with almost zero intensity - if his game doesn't improve, how does he work his way back into the team?Geez... So many are so quick to write off Setterfield.
Agree, improvement is not always linear.
All players can go through flat spots in career. Grundy classic example of that, do Collingwood trade him after one bad year... I think not!
