Except that he is 100% committed to getting the best out of himself .. 100% heart ...ala Maxwell, Gayfer, red head dude.., 90 PP...oh yeah Kerrison .. he is all of those. I imagine very coachabke ... give hin a task and you have faith.

Sure he is an ugly footballer, but commits and punches and (my biggest criticusm), bites off more than he can chew. But will always prefer him to Sier like types.

Kick blokes like that out of your club at your peril.

Comparing Maxwell to Madgen is too much! One’s an AA the other should have been delisted. Do you want to know the key difference between those 4? It’s the quality of the team around them the other three had their limitations, but played within a group that could protect them allowing them to protect their own foibles. Collingwood and Madgen in 2021-22 don’t have that luxury and we won’t for several years yet until our midfield improves to top 4-6 again.

Also you weren’t serious were you following the bold with the italicised? You want that pick any random off here and they’ll offer the same.

I want guys on our list with speed, skill, clean ball handling, spatial awareness and positional scope. The fact of the matter is I don’t want battlers who desperately want it or talented guys who don’t want it (Sier) and in a rebuild a 28yo battler is the definition of list clogger. I think part of the problem is that people don’t know what good depth is so the term gets thrown around all the time leading people to believe that a guy like Madgen is worth keeping around. The issue is that he’s not good depth guys like Lipinski, Young, Ladhams and Lynch were good depth because whilst they weren’t playing seniors they could step in and fill a role for a strong team and be best 22 at a weaker team. Madgen was uncontracted despite playing 19 matches in 2021 and he received zero trade interest even JT’s name popped up more and the reason is he’s not up to the standard.

Re-contracting him was a poor move, but it isn’t a horrible move because there’s a chance he doesn’t get senior minutes in 2022. Unfortunately though our mid sized defensive group is league worst (Murphy and Wilson also aren’t up to it) so there’s every chance we make that **** up as well.

The challenge is to find enough AFL standard experienced guys to bolster the kids without smothering them.

This is where list managers and recruiters need to earn their money.

All this focus on Madge. Well he got another year so McRae must see some value. That’s good enough for me.
Or maybe he’s the best of a bad set at options available on minimum wage.
probably why he only got 1 year.
Madge’s blunders are epic goal costing blunders.
He regularly undoes 15 minutes of serviceability in an 8 second turnover.
We need to do better.

Can't fill all the holes in one go, it's frustrating but with our current draft hand probably unavoidable.

If he plays next year then Howe and Moore must have had injuries again.

He’s surely depth when everyone is fully fit and the fact that he and Wilson got one year when Noble gets two tells you they are on the edge.

Probably saved for 1 year by the lack of reliability in Howe's body these days. If he is on minimum chips I am not totally mad about it. Wouldn't have worried if he was delisted and we picked up the Schlong as a DFA either

St Kilda trying our trick of saying an NGA player has a back injury (Windhager).

We really should position ourselves for a bid on him and force St Kilda to trade us a future second for some picks to match 😂
Interesting backstory to Windhager. If my memory serves me correctly he had been selected in the Aus under 18 basketball team when he was 16. Against instructions from basketball, before the basketball tournament he played a game of footy for his school Haileybury. Did an ACL in game.
Basketball washed their hands of him from there. AFL the winner. Amazing athlete. Doesn't have huge runs on the board as a footballer - lack of footy this year probably saved the Saints getting an early bid on him. Played some good footy for Haileybury this year.

He is depth not in the best 22. But he must have qualities we don’t see to get another contract. Perhaps he is a good trainer a good example for the kids. If he is best of bad options still means he is the best option in the coaches estimation.

Holy shit, that sounds like a Hine special through and through. Watch us trade up to pick 19 and draft him 😂

The Magpies have already been told that North will not bid on Daicos, but sources at AFL clubs said they had not received any such guarantee from Greater Western Sydney, who have also indicated interest in drafting a tall at that choice – a positional need that clubs believe make it more likely that the Giants will place a bid for 203-centimetre Darcy, the son of ex-star ruckman Luke Darcy, at pick two.

If the Giants do not bid for Daicos at pick two or three (they can bid for more than one player under the system), then it appears likely that Gold Coast will bid on the son of Collingwood great Peter Daicos with the Suns’ first pick (No.3 or No.4, depending on whether there is a bid for Darcy).

Collingwood have assembled 2406 draft points in their first seven draft picks, enough to match a bid at pick No.1 (2400, counting the 20 per cent discount). If the bid for Daicos comes in at pick No.4 from the Suns, the Magpies would need 1627 points, a scenario that would allow them to do further pick swaps.

Collingwood hold picks 36, 38, 40, 46, 48, 55 and 58, along with 78 and 79, but they may not utilise those later choices. The Magpies are certain to be involved in further pick swaps during the draft, as their draft picks are consumed by the Daicos bid, given that they hold three future third-rounders.

According to the article it’s 20k for going 1 in the draft, sure North would want their kid to get all that and have him in no doubt he was their first choice. Good on them.

yeah, they must have raised the $$

It's obvious North won't and GWS will go for a needs-player. $20k for a marquee player who can lift the franchise off the bottom.

We gave them number two and have maintained a good relationship over the years. Certainly didn't rip them off in any trades, really. Taylor Adams was a bargain but they accept you can't keep them all. Treloar favoured them, if anything and WHE was a lifelong Pies fan who may have been under for his talent potential (former number four pick) but I don't think too many critics are complaining about us severely ripping them off.

Spot on. I think the relationship between parties have been pretty good over the years. They have also come on record in saying they go on needs basis (especially given their rentention issues, so they do the draft a bit different) When weighing up bidding, they said because of their need for talls, they would bid on Darcy. They never said they would bid on Daicos, but why would say bid? Yes he is the best in that range, but a mid isn't really high on their agenda right now. So they then could go select a tall, or go for Callahan. They could go for Mac Andrew if they don't think he will be there at their next pick. or go for Gibcus.

Nice. North being very kind to us in making this public pre draft. Makes it a lot easier for us to be prepared with our points/pick swaps knowing we only need to cover at pick 2 at the earliest.

I found it interesting in the article too that even though JUH was #1 last year he & Thilthorpe split the 20K bonus.

That was interesting, I never knew they split it.

No, in the story they said the JUH and Thilthorpe split it last year. The received $10K each after the bid by Adelaide:

"last year, the NAB payment was split between key forwards Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Riley Thilthorpe after Adelaide bid on the former, a next generation academy player tied to the Bulldogs, and drafted Thilthorpe at pick two"
