No, in the story they said the JUH and Thilthorpe split it last year. The received $10K each after the bid by Adelaide:

"last year, the NAB payment was split between key forwards Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Riley Thilthorpe after Adelaide bid on the former, a next generation academy player tied to the Bulldogs, and drafted Thilthorpe at pick two"
Yeah, I re-read it. Never knew they split it at the time.

Question for the draft experts.
What if no-one selects Daicos in the first round?
What do we have to match for pick 19?

What if no-one picks Daicos before Collingwoods first pick? 36.
Do we get him for that solitary pick?

If we had 3 future 3rd round picks after we draft Daicos (somewhere between 3rd and 6th pick say) could we swap them for a 2nd or even a 1st rounder this draft?
PS. Hypothetical......don't diss me man!!!

He is listed at 195cm's

195cm / 86kg is still too small for the big KPP's you see running around today Dave, he's closer to second or maybe even third tall defender territory.

I'm not sure if Dean has the intercept mark and penetrating kick to open up the game type of ability you really need from a third (intercepting) tall forward though, so that narrows his appeal a little further again.

I think his kicking is definitely up to par for opening the game up from the backline. Better than most of the defenders we currently have

I'm probably setting the bar fairly high with Moore and Howe being the benchmarks, but I can't see Dean being up to that level even though he's a decent kick overall. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh or expecting a bit too much given the luxury we have now with Howe and Moore patrolling across half back?

I'm also mindful that Dean is doing this work at VFL level against VFL standard forwards with VFL standard delivery coming into the oppositions F50 by and large, but in the end my reserved position is probably driven more by the need the need for us to nail our KPP additions over the next few years and while Dean looks ok he doesn't wow me.

This is a good point. We'd rather GWS keep pick 2, because if they traded that to someone else, we can't know what that other club would do.

The Cats intrigue me and I feel like the cliff is nearing for them. It is coming, but they’re not there yet. Next year looms as their last real crack at a flag before an inevitable falling off. The Pies are another club that intrigues me. They’ve still got quite a bit of top-end talent, but they’re now under a new coach in Craig McRae and very much a work in progress. Speaking of the Pies, I know you’ve been all over Nick Daicos of late. Place your bet, how high a price will the Maggies have to pay for the son of my childhood hero? Are the Roos all in on Jason Horne-Francis?

MM: I think it depends whether the Giants trade pick two, which is a reasonable scenario. If they slide down the order then I think whichever club moves to No.2 will bid on Daicos. If GWS stays where it is, there’s a decent chance Sam Darcy rather than Daicos is bid on with the second selection. Collingwood list boss Graham Wright would be dancing on the rooftop if Daicos falls outside the top two. What’s your take on this? Do you pump up your man and make Jason Horne-Francis the dux of the draft class, or make your rivals pay up, knowing you’ll get Horne-Francis, anyway?

I'd say Deans kicking is his biggest strength. He's a fantastic field kick and I think can hit high difficulty kicks that open the game up. I also think 195cm is plenty tall for a key defender. No escaping his intercept marking as a weakness though.

Watched a few draftee videos again and desperately need longer videos to actually determine who can and can't do what...

I know it's unlikely we trade back up into the top 10-15 but interesting nonetheless.

I got blasted for suggesting we trade our future first into Gibcus, but he just did what he pleased. He'd be a really good prospect to take over from Howe.

Outside of him it seems the highlights are pretty lacking.

Ward looks pretty handy too.

Of the top rated players I'd have to say Hobbs is slipping down my list of preferences. Just looked like a bigger bodied Rantall, that has probably already peaked. Maybe he was in and under all year and earned his spot up the top of draft boards, but it'll be an interesting career to track.

Surely he can put more weight on

I really like Rankin, particularly his work in the rep games. Just very neat with everything he did.

I had been wondering why no one had been talking about him, but it appears a few notable members on the draft board have recently talked him up.

Other guys that have peaked my interest, who may be in and around the various picks we end up also taking in addition to Daicos (and hopefully Dib) are:
  • Leek Alleer
  • Judson Clarke (probably goes a tad too early though)
  • Paul Curtis
  • Arthur Jones
  • Isiah Dudley
  • Patrick Voss (reckon Gws take him as an academy selection though)
  • Jake Soligo
  • Sam Banks
  • Corey Warner
Maybe… Rentsch (although I’d hope that’s more as a speculative rookie selection)

Wonder what happened to KM bolters Uwland and Schlong? Top 10 and 20 all season and now nowhere to be seen in his latest draft. If those are his big calls why not stick with them?

KM’s phantom drafts and personal rankings are always different. Just because he rates a kid himself doesn’t mean he believes they’ll get drafted early, or even at all. Phantoms are based on whole industry talk, not just his own opinions.

What's the point of rating players then?. If you don't think Bohdi Uwland is a top 10 then don't put him in your top 10, same with Schlensog. Couple of Barry Crocker assessments in the final analysis.

Huh? Phantom's are predictions of what will happen, not what he KM thinks should happen

Phantoms haunt operas, mocks with players that have a number beside them are for rankings. If you rank someone highly ie with a low number and that player doesn't picked at or around that number then you fugged up. That's some real nonsense, this is where KM rates them only he doesn't really rate them, what a cop out!
