These are the notes I put down when listening.

So I listened to the road to the draft podcast with Dekka, and this is what I came from it. I wrote down notes:
- Plan to go into the draft with 6 list spots. But will use 3-4 picks.
- Plan on improving our draft hand
- Prior to the draft could use futures to get into this years draft, or even after a bid comes for Nick

Nick -- -
- Is a multi-diminensional player
- Temper expectations given he has only played a bunch of games in 2 years
- Just focused on him growing into the program and supporting him, putting the best support around him
Positional - Mentioned rolling through the high-half back-wing-mid role

Acknowleges our holes in our list, and that demographically its the 22-25 age bracket. Corrected part of it in the trade, but its a focus going forward whether its Trade, FA, State league.
Wont be getting 7-8 18 year olds like last year as that leaves you too young
-Mentions small forward, key forward, key back
- They are having some faith in Keane to provide that key back role, he has been working with Leppa and had some good discussions with him
- Also after a young ruck after the departure of Lynch

Patty - They were really impressed by his consistency in the VFL, even when things didn't go his way with selection, but acknowleged its not easy to be consistent, but he was
. - They feel the MCG will suit him with our game plan, where he woud be playing a lot of games at (whether its 14-16 games at the G, depending on the fixture)

Mentioned Krueger
- His name will be on the magnent, but its up to him to keep it there.
- They were pretty bullish on him, given his mature age in this area, given our other key forwards are pretty young and under developed
- Picks 36, 38 could be up for trade if need be leading into the draft
- They plan not to go into deficit.
- Increase next years draft hand
- Once a bid comes for Nick, they could then trade back into the draft if there is someone they like, according to their rankings.

2022 - - Reef was close to a game.
- McMahon had some consistent moments toward the end of the season.
- Johnston is also an uknown, but looking forward to seeing him out there

Aiden Begg -
- His last 2 games when he played in scratch matches at the end of the season. He started off nervous, but in the last game v Casey, he got more and more into it
- Mentioned he is now close to 200cm, grew a couple CM in recent months.

Good summary. I would only note that the "Plan on improving our draft hand" was more an "If we can". As usual, he didn't commit to anything. Sounds like we've got plans for our earliest picks if we can get away with not using them for Nick.

Also, he would like the ability to conduct trades for players (& also rookie picks) live during the draft. Imagine the stress of that!

Yeah, I was trying to write as I listened so I may have gotten some things wrong haha.

Yeah that whole trading drafted players option was crazy.

well said

sounded to me like nothing was off the cards

I think we’ll be setting ourselves up so that we have total flexibility
- Improve draft hand in 2022
- keep 2022 picks
- move up in 2021
- ability to trade any pick from 2022 back into 2021 depending on who is available and what we would receive

going to be fascinating

Liked him talking about age demographics - it's a glaring weakness in our list - also liked the array of options they are trying to set up for and that's before and during the draft. This has to make our strategy much less predictable and thus give less time for opposition moves to block/match our trades/bids.

From Jens write up... i glean that if they are

a) aware of the 22-25 gap in the list and still hoping to address it further

b) not going to take too many kids and

c) there remains 6 list spots open

I think they may take a DFA in the desired age bracket

Maybe it’s... Daicos, Dib, 3rd draftee, Chugg (rookie), mature age DFA, open list spot for MSD...?

Thanks for this write up.

Although the bolded parts from above are a bit confusing. So we are trying to bolster our draft hand both this year AND next year? How?

What do we think about

Pick 36 + future 3rd (Brisbane) for future 2nd (Adelaide)

Future 2nd (Adelaide) for future 2nd (different club)

then

Future 2nd (different club) to Adelaide for pick 33

Is that possible?

I think the first scenario is quite possible (think I’ve suggested that on here). But not sure about the second part.

Lions need points for next year I wonder if we could get them interested in a swap of that newly acquired Crows future 2nd and the Hawks future 3rd for their pick 18 this year? That might get pushed out to 20 odd but they still have 14 this year.

Not sure, but he did imply both, somehow, if possible.

Yeah same. Think we will convert pick 36 into a future 2nd.

Whether we keep that future 2nd or trade to a different club for a pick this year I guess we will see on the draft day.

If Adelaide future 2nd + 2x future 3rd enough for Brisbane's future 1st?

Adelaide's future 2nd could be very very close to Brisbane's future 1st.

Why in god's name would you even consider that? A seriously poor outcome given we had Adelaide's future second within our grasp.

I think he was saying their plan is to invest in this years draft and next as much as possible. Come 2022 we can trade out 2023 picks to improve our hand next year.
