The whole Bont thing is really interesting.

I'm personally assuming it's all just a bit of gamesmanship on the Dogs behalf.

The guy came off late and he never put ice on the injury.

If you are a professional AFL player with a slight knee niggle you're putting ice on it immediately.

The only options are:
- That he wasn't actually hurt at all and hence no ice or strapping was required.
- Or that it is real serious, they realise he's gone for weeks and didn't really care.

I'm banking on #1 and expecting him to play and to be at the top of his game.
If he had someone fall across him and "stretched" his PCL then its serious but manageable and ice wouldn't have helped.

I reckon the Bont's knee will be sore and would have had fluid on it Sunday morning and might for the rest of the week, and it might have to be drained during the week and maybe before the game.

It was a 1 point game and they hadn't worked out what was going on with his knee - needed to keep the option of him playing on with extra time as a possibility.

I'll be surprised if he plays. If he does, he will be in considerable pain. The flight from Brisbane to Perth would have done him no favours - neither will the Perth to Adelaide flight on Friday.

Could have been genuine, but they could also know by now that he's actually gonna be fine and it was just a knock. If they do know that they would be saying the same things I'd say.
We are never going to go 'oh he's injured lets not cover him' though :).

C'mon dude... You're not leaving your best player on the bench, when the game is in the balance, if there isn't some damage...
I think you're missing the point of what I'm saying.

I'm saying that he's either gone, or he's ok. If he was actually still kept off after being checked then surely it's because he was injured. If he was injured then surely he's icing that. The only time you wouldn't be is if you know you're cooked and likely have a multiple week ligament injury.

If he was deemed as ok, then they must've thought it was super minor but not worth playing him for the last minute.

So for mine he's either going to be near 100%, or he wont be playing.

Or they wanted to keep it warm incase it settled and they wanted to put him back on if the game went to extra time.
Yeah I get this bit, I guess watching the footage as I did for an extra 30 mins post game though, he was just sitting around in the rooms after without icing. So it wasn't just a during the game non-icing. He didn't ice it, at all.

Out of your 2 options, I would say it's the second one because:
He was sitting on the bench for the last 3-4 minutes and looked quite forlorn.
If they were up by 2-3 goals, I'd agree with u and say it's the first one, but because it was so tight, you'd think he'd be on the ground to help then get over the line.

Unless it's the biggest gamble/bluff of all time...

Yeah well if this is the case, and they thought the icing was pointless then that would explain it.

He will absolutely play. But he's sore.
I'm not sure how the injury effects his jumping ability but just sticking him in the forward line might not be as easy as it seems.

That's their problem to worry about. They'll manage him heavily through the week, give him a needle or two, and given that you'd think he'll go into the game quite underdone.

Goodes famously did a PCL strain injury in 2004 when his knee hit Dean Cox's knee at a centre bounce, in the last year of the unrestricted run ups by ruckmen at centre bounces and Paul Roos said he is never rucking again. He was expected to miss 2 to 4 weeks but didn't miss a game and played as a ruck rover / forward for the rest of the year, and rest of his career.

If Bont spends 50% or more of his time forward (assuming that he plays) do we try Burton for the job or straight to Jonas?

Would be thinking they go in with Naughton, English and perhaps Bont as their main forwards?

Mckenzie - Naughton
Jonas - English
Burton - Bont
Aliir - Perhaps Weightmans replacement to try be the interceptor just as he was against the Cats on Rohan

Otherwise if Jonas takes Bont, Aliir probably has too take one of English / Naughton

I don't really care who takes the field for Footscray on Saturday and I don't rejoice in players from any team missing what are the biggest games of their lives through injury.

We've seen this story before, when we lost the 2002 and 2003 QFs to teams that were depleted with injuries to key players.

Footscray are a good side and, regardless of injuries, will field a formidable team that deserves respect. Port needs to anticipate that it's playing a team of superstars this week and prepare accordingly both physically and mentally.

Ken hasn't got a single excuse in the world this week. Absolutely everything is bouncing our way. We win this and we win this well.

If we don't ken has to be sacked.
What Happen Power incoming.

Weightman is a solid out for them. He’s been red hot lately. I can see the Bont playing but he will definitely be sore.
From memory he kicked 3 or so goals against us at AO this year and changed the game.

Not to underestimate the Bulldogs, they'll give it a hell of a shake regardless of who's playing, our biggest battle will be an internal one. Our team selection and our battle with expectation. We've traditionally struggled with favouritism. If we come out like we did last week, we'll gonna good way towards winning. I really hope this team is ready to embrace success and not fear it.

Anyone else seeing the irony - Weightman misses out on a prelim because he didn't duck.......

Seriously though, as much as I dislike the way he plays it's a sad way to miss out on a final.
I would agree with you 99% of the time as I don’t like to see any player miss a big game because of injury but in Weightman’s case I say bad luck cont. 😂
