I just love how you know what he is thinking , i think that's what is in your head and before you go nuts at me remember when people say so and so was coming to us and they dont then they come out with sometimes things change .
Maybe Ben is more than happy where he is ,,, Who knows ?
Maybe Ben does stay on the Gold Coast.

But let’s be clear. People don’t make long standing rumours such as Ben wanting to come home or his parents calling Lethers for advice about Ben if there isn’t any truth in him wanting to leave at some point.

all we need to do, is treat Max and his family like the second coming of Jesus. So that Ben nominates us next year.

I find it insanely unbelievable that the Suns will send him to the draft and forgo whatever picks we offer them for him in 12 months. Infact I believe the AFL would step in at that point.

I feel like you need one of these. I mean we are so bad that we gave the league a quarter of a season headstart and had an injury list the length of a Centrelink queue in Frankston and we still just missed the 8 with arguably the toughest draw.

we legit could just draft kids this off-season and I’ll still be insanely confident of playing finals next year.

I'm more like that Grey Wiggle guy, you campaigners are irrationally positive. There s absolutly no good reason to have faith in this clubs ability to play finals. They didn't even start to play until they'd worked out that finals were off the cards. I have hope but confidence is a dangerous thing for a Saints fan.

That sounds unbelievably desperate. Making the player bigger than the team has never been a great thing for us.

Until we sign him, then treat him like crap, like we do with all our players. Ben is being sold the dream, but it wont be before 2023 that we get a glimpse of him in our colours.
He wont ( or can't because of the AFL) break his contract. I would be amazed if he landed before 2023.

I hope we don't see another case like we had with Hind with Battle.

It would be hard to watch if a club grabbed him and decided to develop him at CHB and he succeeds.
Where do we play Sinclair if we had Hind?

Hahaha you would have to be joking right?
maaaate.... Dont be cruel. Show compassion. I am sure it was an honest mistake. I can see the regret oozing out of his fingers as we speak. Yes, there is no doubt his credibility has taken a knock after those comments but he will fight back with something special I am sure. Please put our simple minds at peace gringo.

We traded Hind for a draft pick we didn't use.
Surely our club wouldn't be stupid enough to do that with Battle.
If we get a decent trade i'm happy for him to do well in his new club.
To me that's the best way to do it.
Draft the best available. If you end up with too many with the same best role, trade and get something good.

It’s the the most used tactic in world soccer.
The big clubs launch these types of campaigns in the media 12-18 months before a player actually joins.

plus, I bet you had no issue with the amount of pandering we did to Roo during his career.

we are talking about 2 generational talents at the club. I don’t think we have ever had 2. We had Lockett. We had Roo.

but never 2 locketts or 2 Rooeys.
Imagine in 04-10. One Rooey at half forward and the other deep. Sharman and Membrey legit become one on one threats. Higgins Butler Gresham get to run amok and have to worry about ensuring they are applying pressure for most of their deep 50 ball and Not worrying about when they get their next meal as there are 2 big talks that will attract so much attention that they just need to be at the fall of the ball half the time.

If they get us to a granny and lose. We can treat both of them like Jesus during Easter.

Battle is contracted. Why would we trade him without being adequately compensated?

I agree. But a scenario that could happen: Bing tells Suns he wont look at a contract until year end, or better still, tells them that he will be seeking a trade.
Both GC and Bing and possibly the AFL dont want to be answering questions weekly about will he or wont he. Everyone loses.
I would also suggest our combined 2021 and 2022 draft picks will be higher than say the combination of 2022 and 2023.
Under that scenario, if you know that you will be losing him, it would be a good business decision to pull the trigger early, avoid the 12 months of drama and get higher picks to take to the draft this year.

As I’ve already said. There would have to be something monumental that occurs for him to leave this off-season.

ambassador payments. Suns needing to show they are legit andtrying to play finals in 2022 etc.

What I think will happen…

They’ll miss finals next year.
dew will get sacked
King and a few others leave
They poach Clarko and pretty much they rebuild again. But they have the GOAT of the modern era leading this rebuild. Probably have half the top 10 picks next year.

I'm not reffering to the lack of compensation.

It's more the fact that after a very promising first year as a key defender we decided not to develop him in that role.

Maybe it was the right move, maybe it wasn't. But I definitely thought he showed promise in that role.

To be honest and this is my 2 cents, I think the style of game we play impacted how we use him with Ratten.

under Richo that last season. We went that Melbourne style of numbers around and behind the ball and tried to slingshot.

makes it easier to play a smaller tall like battle at CHB.
Ratten/Rath have us playing a very attacking style, where we openly encourage players to cheat a contest to run forward.

that means you need to win 1:1s to get the ball back. Hurts Battle as he would be standing a Tom Lynch as an example without support.
So they have opted to use him as a link on the wing or a high half forward as a mismatch for the opposition and try to use Battles tank as a strength.

Does world Soccer have a Salary cap?
To get something really big in AFL you have to give up something.
Do you think it didn't cost Sydney big time to get Buddy?
