The Fox article mentions how he’s taken it upon himself to prepare better — by outsourcing fitness/conditioning specialists. I reckon he has the drive to fulfil his potential. Get him in the right environment. Seems like an astute pick around that future 2nd mark.
Yep 2nd rounder is no brainer

There is definitely some consistency and off field behaviours that have put clubs off him being a top 10 pick like he was looking at some stage

He can still be your no 1 priority but give 23 1st up for him. That pick has at least as much value as pick 5 this year.
Gold Coast had no interest in our 2023 pick with 2 high end Academy picks next year they'll most likely trade out there 2023 1st as well for points.

Fox reporting we have our eyes on Hewitt. There is every change he slides to a range we might be able to get him at. Mutineer what’s the go with him? Why is he potentially sliding? And would you be stoked with him?
Would be very happy with this. Has some of the traits we lack - a bit more height than Soligo/Berry, powerful and aggressive, has taken over games at times this year

Very much rough around the edges, i.e. he’s quite inconsistent at this point and apparently a few character questions, but I’m all for trading up for him

If we really like him, we could package both our 2023 2nd and the north 2023 2nd for a play at a teens 1st rounder this year. Would sort of mitigate missing Phillipou and preserve our 2023 1st

2nd rounder sounds maybe a bit too easy, though. His draft range is huge I reckon - could go as low as 35, but as high as 8

It might mean we’re convinced into a Carlton/Adelaide 2018-type deal, our first next year for a later first in both this and next year, but I really hope not

What exactly are these character questions, damned if I can find anything unless you consider his intensity to get the best out of himself a character flaw?

Fair enough, so you go through trade week trying to get another club involved who would want our future 1st. There would have been heaps keen through the whole JHF debacle. We could always back down last minute but we didn’t even try, so I assume we didn’t rate Phillipou or we like someone next year.

Either way I disagree with the strategy.

We might have to trade one of those 2nds into this year first, but yeah that would be my preferred way of doing things. Means we can have another shot at a top prospect next year

Not coming from me, but just what I’ve read around the draft rumours section. More so unwilling to leave WA, so maybe some maturity concerns?

I don’t know, could be baloney, but I’m not too fazed by it (SA is closer to WA than Vic, after all haha)

Edit: also apparently some kind of incident where he kicked Sheldrick when he was on the ground in a game

Little word about

Then it prob becomes bigger issue as the consistency of performance isn’t there

But it’s likely just an issue to push him back 5-10 spots not major

I've heard a couple of his interviews and it's come up several times re moving interstate and he really doesn't seem to have a problem when that question's been put...of course some have said that and hightailed it out but taken at face value I think that may be a beat up too.

Most of this board had us finishing last or second last this year. Dunno how confident to be in your top 5 next year guarantee.
The competitiveness of Adelaide assures we aren't bottom three. North, Hawthorn in particular are tanking. Adelaide is too competitive to finish bottom 4 even though I'd like it. Youngest list and no elite midfield but mark this down. We won't finish bottom 3!!

Nah I reckon we might have 3-4 targets but only at the right price including Hewett

Can’t see us changing 1st round positions over anyone other than Phillipou

Just a question on that. What would be the mechanism to trade one in first as I thought you could only trade for picks when the club wanting to trade is on the clock and therefore if say its x team at pick 15 and we want that pick, how could we have traded one of the 2nds we have back in previously?

I’m not aware of this rule, it might be a thing but I always thought you could trade for any pick whenever? Just that clubs like to do it more when they’re on the clock

Cept you can't trade for a pick you held before that you traded wasn't it? AFL ruled against us didn't they? Think the Dees was the other club?

Our midfield is the worst in the competition and we don't have a pick in the first round. Excellent.
That's because we traded it for Izak Rankine. Will hopefully be a good player.
