I really hope we don’t take Huswaite.

He’s just not damaging enough for mine. Everything is just safe.

Rather than superstars like Pendles and Bont, I think he plays more like Kyle Langford.

Fair enough. And yes never assume that a bloke likely to be available at 16 should be compared to greats other than in terms of style. But in terms of safe, a young Pendles was very safe and conservative with his disposal options - that's not something that I'd be that concerned about, as I think risk/reward options are coachable.

Hustwaite shows a few very good traits, his movement and read on the drop from a ruck contest to shark in flight.
His vision in traffic. His kicking. His ability to move through traffic and find space.
Etc.
I wouldn't have a problem at all if we took him but I was hoping we would take a bit more risk and take a KPP

You might be right, the Hustwaite Pendles comp is ridiculous, if he was anything like Pendles we're talking a top 5 pick.

This.

Hustwaite, Hayes and Weddle to me are great players but to me they have limited ceilings. Could develp to starting 22 solid 5-10 year players.

To me others like Jefferson, George, Barnett, Keeler (i'm not a big fan of though) and Burgiel could develop to a top 10 club player.

Given our picks are late and it's an even draft after the first 8-10 I would rather punt on upside first.

But hay what do I know. I thought Crisp was just going to be a solid player and look at the Copeland results.

Last player we had with those super abilities to read/shark the ball was Sier. So Hustwaite sounds good.

I thought we took picks 36, 38, 40, 46, 48, 55 and 58 into the 2021 draft?
The entire bidding system revolves around essentially buying a pick with accumulated points. By matching a bid at pick 4, we traded up to that pick, and used it on Daicos. It counts as a first round pick, because we used pick 4 on him.

Thats usually code for tall, skinny and slow. There has been a lot of Pendlebury-like players over the years. Theres only 1 Pendles.
I do agree with you, but I'd be happy with the footballer formerly known as Pendlebury-like - now known as Marcus Bontempellii.

Slow without aggression is a big red flag for me. But Pendles and Sidey show that it's not a deal breaker.

This situation has never happened.

Hine's weakness is a 186cm midfielder who doesn't have any significant ability to actually find the ball but has a loose scope, in his mind, to become a Nat Fyfe type.

Basically Tyler Brown.
Tyler Brown's best game was a ruckman but he never really got a shot at it. I don't think we'll be seeing him in the AFL in 2023.

We've got 4 picks. I can't imagine the first not simply being Hine's best available - regardless of position.

Hine is not risk averse in his selections and I would be backing the ACL kid to be our choice, if he's still available.

Believe he gets compared a little to pendles not because of his basketball background lol but in just the way he moves in and around traffic.

"Has been likened by AFL draft expert Kevin Sheehan to Scott Pendlebury. He steps through traffic and finds a way not to get tackled"

Yeah I hope at the minimum we look at KPP/Ruck with our 2 picks 27 and 31??.

Barnett and Lemmey imo I'd be happy with would love to see them take T.Scully late too and just see how he develops.

With our first rounder I'd be happy with a few options from Hustwaite George Keeler etc

Richmond are looking for a KPF with one of their picks and looking at Scully/Lemmey.

Without a first rounder? We have 16,

In the highlights he has good center break ability and inside 50 kick, question is that a regular of his game?
(It's a point of difference to Pendles who often looks to hand off to outside players more then break away and deliver himself).

Imo I see more Bontempelli then Pendles.

Not sure. He only played midfield 2nd half of the year after the regulars played school footy, but once they came back, he continued to play midfield. But we only have a small sample of what he could be capable of inside.

Scully and Lemmey will be an easy call for reruiters.

Sure they are tall and can mark on a lead and kick reasonably well.

What will make or break them is:
- Can they get separation on the lead (Combine sprint results)
- Can they turn 'on a dime' or do they have the turning circle of a mack truck (Combine agility test)
- Can they repeat sprint or are they one trick ponies [lead, mark, goal]. It's easy to be a one-man target in U18 and get the ball evey time you lead. In the AFL you need to string multiple leads together because you are not rewarded every time.

IMO Scully will stuggle if he makes it to the AFL. I don't believe he has AFL level separation and I don't think he has multiple avenues to goal in him (apart from marking). Hopefully I'm wrong because I hate writing off any young player.

Lemmey I am unsure on as I don't have access to testing results. If he tests well then I would take a punt on him with a 2nd rounder onwards.

I'd narrow it down to just agility. Although with Scully, also whether they think he will bulk up.
