Have you seen Keeler's highlights reel?
I had a pretty good highlights reel as well…never got drafted though. In fact was not anywhere close.

Hine picks best available, and that’s what he should do. Potentially you can move picks up and down the order if you want to pick a player based on need…that’s easier said than done though.

We have ‘needs’ all over the ground we are far from a complete list and particularly when you look at some of the key players we’ll lose over the next couple of years.

I can’t think of a position on the ground that we are well stacked in…potentially small to medium forwards? But even then we will lose Elliott, Mihocek and Degoey to the midfield…depending on how Fin,Carmichael and Reef come on potentially also covered in the midfield.

You can always insert extra talent, or trade it… no point taking a tall that won’t make the grade.

It’s less his size I’m worried about and more his contested ability, ground level game and lack of pressure and non existent outside game other than finishing goals.

Perhaps he’ll become a gun because his couple of strengths hands in the air and finishing are really good but I’m not convinced.
He’s young…the cats have an ability to extract the best…he has the raw talent and I agree needs a kick up the bum.

I don’t have a lot of information to work with, but the alleged 8 weeks off after the meniscal tear suggests he had a repair rather than a resection, which means they sought to preserve as much cartilage as possible and he should be treated after that essentially like any other draftee.

The crux of it is the ACL tear. I don’t know whether it was to the same knee, but if so you’d have to have concerns for further meniscal damage. Also, we don’t know the extent of the injury. An isolated ACL tear would allow a more rapid recovery with a lower risk of failure and re-injury, but if he tore other ligaments (MCL is most common) then the process is protracted and outcomes not always as good.

At this stage, knowing what little we know, the issue is how well he ought to recover his pre-injury form. If signs are positive there, then one might consider the risk of re-injury but it shouldn’t be much different to the rest of the population.
Can confirm the meniscus & ACL injuries were to different knees.
ACL: left; meniscus: right.

Jakob Ryan = "the South Australian Ryan was strongly linked to Collingwood with Pick 19"
Lewis Hayes = "The Western Bulldogs, Carlton and Collingwood have interest in the defender"
Olli Hotton = "and he cold yet get to Collingwood with either of its second picks – while the Dogs are also keen and have Pick 24."
Harry Barnett = "The Swans (Pick 27) and Magpies (Pick 28) and Dockers (Pick 33) are clubs to watch should he make it that far, while Adelaide and Melbourne could also be teams that explore trading up to get him."
Lachie Cowan = "Collingwood, Sydney and GWS were clubs linked to the rebounding defender with their first picks, while the Bulldogs and North could also pounce in the second round."
Charlie Clarke = "The Giants have strong interest in Clarke and could take him with Pick 22, while Collingwood and the Bulldogs have also been linked."
Henry Hustwaite = "He has a connection to Collingwood – with his brother Campbell the club’s VFL c0-captain in recent years – while the Giants are another club to watch."

So we are linked to 7 of the next 10 best available.

I don't suppose they'd let us have all of them?

ACL: left; meniscus: right.

Thanks.

So I would largely overlook the original meniscus injury, based on what little we know so far, and base any decision on the extent of damage during the left ACL injury.

Agree, actually, there's no need taking any player that won't make the grade. Also agree with the principle of best available - to establish best available I'd recommend a risk v reward approach. For someone like Keeler the risk is that he won't make it because he lacks the commitment to get himself fit enough to play at the standard and that will result in a wasted pick - the reward is that we acquire one of the most gifted players in the draft who can develop into a 10 year key forward. I'd suggest that the upside of a 10 year key forward (reward) outweighs the likelihood that he doesn't make it (risk). Realistically, the likelihood is that we won't recruit a 10 year player for any position with our Pick 30.

Thanks.

On another note TRS. I have a miniscus tear & it has bothered me for about 8 weeks now. Can I avoid surgery & let it heal itself? It is better than original injury but progress is slow. I'm 58 & no athlete these days. :)

The problem is that the Salary cap makes it hard to have an abundance of depth in every position and if you do, they start getting poached because they can't get regular games. I don't know if we have a huge amount of depth all over the ground but I do believe we lack developing bookends. The problem is how long do we wait for a kPP player to come along. There is still quite a few kpp left in the draft, why not take a punt now

Maybe, we'll pick you up in the mid-season draft then, Friz.

I thought I’d map this into a “threat ladder” based on player interest of clubs before us tonight. This is based (only) on the above and latest Fox whispers. See below.

The unknowns are where ADJ gets bid on and how that changes things, and if Dees can talk GWS into releasing pick 22 (plus any other unforeseen pick swap/bid craziness!)

Looks like our second slider is coming, the slider King himself

Based on that, I’d say it’s likely that Hayes and Ryan will likely both be available to us, assuming that the Dogs go for Hotton since they already got Busslinger.
