Thanks mate. Having read that now, I think we should take a shot at him, as I’ve said repeatedly we should be drafting for ceiling and George coupled with a Keeler, Barnett, Cowan or Clarke would be ideal.
There's always risk & I appreciate you don't have family history etc, but would appreciate your thoughts on risk related to the ACL & Meniscus in the same year and what this potentially means for George?
I suspect like many his football agenda was affected during the covid years as well & it may be 2024 before he is ready to go after a full preseason. It's a big gap from a playing perspective.
I remember a WA top end talent who was hampered with knee problems, but his name escapes me. He was a top junior swimmer IIRC & it was reported at the time this contributed to his knee issues.
Thoughts?

Can't believe how excited I was to see us select Allen - I've been on him since 7/11 - potential for a great 1:2 combination over the next 10 years with Naics. Wanted Jones with our 2nd - would be happy with any of the remaining Poster's Choice players that were nominated for our first (Hayes, Hustwait, Keeler, George, Hotton, Barnett) - get the feeling that the Swans might take Barnett at 27 - would be great to get Hayes at our 28 and Keeler at 30. For our last pick, Scully or Lemmy would be awesome: potential to have the fundamentals for our spine and midfield for the next 10 years from one draft.
Pick 28 - Hayes or Cowan
Pick 30 - (either of the above, or) Barnett, Hustwaite, Van Es, Keeler
Pick 51 - Lemmey, Scully, Richards

My preference: Hayes, Barnett, Scully

Sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry. I just don't see the point of risking a pick on him when there will be others to pick from

Happy to back the recruiters in with Allan. Even though I don’t necessarily rate him as highly as others.

As a lot have said hopefully 28 & 30 come from a group including Charlie Clarke, Lewis Hayes, Lachie Cowan, Isaac Keeler, and Jakob Ryan.

With us to take our last pick and use it on Lemmey.

Shows how little you can trust draft video highlights. In his, he looks treacle slow, yet got the 5th fastest ever 20m sprint result.

Looks like an absolute beast. Supposedly his back fractures were from growing too fast. He might end up a KPP if he keeps going 😂!

I don’t have a lot of information to work with, but the alleged 8 weeks off after the meniscal tear suggests he had a repair rather than a resection, which means they sought to preserve as much cartilage as possible and he should be treated after that essentially like any other draftee.

The crux of it is the ACL tear. I don’t know whether it was to the same knee, but if so you’d have to have concerns for further meniscal damage. Also, we don’t know the extent of the injury. An isolated ACL tear would allow a more rapid recovery with a lower risk of failure and re-injury, but if he tore other ligaments (MCL is most common) then the process is protracted and outcomes not always as good.

At this stage, knowing what little we know, the issue is how well he ought to recover his pre-injury form. If signs are positive there, then one might consider the risk of re-injury but it shouldn’t be much different to the rest of the population.

Gone Critical may be able to elaborate but I find this entirely plausible.

If we’re only looking to use three picks, I’d offer the Bulldogs 28+30 for 24+39 and see if they nibble.

Gives us a good crack at any of the remaining talents and means we walk away with a Cowan/Barnett/George/Clarke and then at 39 we’d still be a big chance of landing one of Richards/Van Es/Dowling/Gallagher/Gilbey

My own thoughts:

I like Van Es but the knocks are he is similar to Nathan Brown (Ex. Coll/Stk version) that he is a stopper first and rebound/attack second.

In saying that I believe Van Es has the ability to develop this, his kicking is better that Nathan Brown's. Decision making is questionable.

Hayes has greater exposure on his rebound which pushes him higher.
Lemmey is only rated higher by some. KPF are more valueble than KPD.

He's too much of a big plodder for our game style.

He's like a backman version of Callow.

Everyone likes the big boys around here for some reason, which I assume is some pubescent fantasy that some guys can't shake, that ignores that in the modern game you have to be super athletic/mobile. Players like Hawkins and Balta are few and far between.

Henry only performed well in one role in the seniors and that was as a second key forward to Mihocek. For that he was undersized and I have too many doubts about his other aspects of the game that would make him an effective third tall plus it’s not a role I value highly in the first place.

George seems like a different kind of player though so don’t think the comparison is relevant.
Henry was a lot more than that. He kicked goals, and showed an ability to do so when it counted most. The size of the player doesn’t matter, it’s their impact. He will be a gun.

Have you seen Keeler's highlights reel?

It’s less his size I’m worried about and more his contested ability, ground level game and lack of pressure and non existent outside game other than finishing goals.

Perhaps he’ll become a gun because his couple of strengths hands in the air and finishing are really good but I’m not convinced.

I don't agree with plodder.

2.91 second 20m sprint
Second in agility test for KPD only
1st running jump
2nd standing jump

He doesn't show this enough in games similarlly to Allan who doesn't show his speed enough.
