Yes and we will be watching this closely. Browne has already put the AFL on notice. If for example Jordy or Moore leave and they don't award us proper compensation, he is sure to be proactive in questioning this. Too often the Pies seem to be exploited compared with other clubs, especially the love children of the AFL. We should no longer accept propping up the competition and then not receiving what is owing to us.

That's good. As I think that's the ball park of what he'd be offered to poach as of now - based on other rumoured contracts. A fair bit of potential for his salary to move in either direction over the course of the year, but definitely more scope for him being band 1 without absolutely slaying it than I thought there was. Personally though, I hope he slays it and stays.

Prior to the off season this year, I would have agreed with you, but he has too much form to be given a 3 year, 750k per season contract, he wouldn't be offered more than 2 years from anyone and there would be clauses, which would devalue his compo

I hope so, but I think we need 3 years or more to get band 1, clauses in contracts is what the AFL take into consideration when giving band 1, that's why there appear to be discrepancies in cases.

We have a 2023 1st round pick we can bring forward if we want to.
Also, I wouldn't discount packaging up a few of those 3rd round picks to climb up the ladder to get a pick in the 20s.
That would be a great draft result.

And I'd be shocked if JDG isn't offered $700k pa.

It’s folly IMHO to assume that if JDG has as good a season as his end of 2021 promised that we won’t offer him an extension of his existing contract on similar. That’d be very likely to put him into the top 10% at any club which as I understand it would trigger R1 compo. People just discounting his value too much based on a nightclub scuffle. I personally doubt he goes anywhere which makes all this moot. Time will tell.

Most of the top teams won’t have 700k to spend in that scenario.

But maybe someone like a Brisbane does and figures De Goey in the middle could take them one step further

This is laughable, I can just see clubs giving up good players to make room for a player like DeGoey, maybe get some runs on the board before trying to be all gung ho

What is laughable is that you can’t see clubs clearing salary cap for a targeted FA. Or that clubs wouldn’t have interest in JDG.

I don’t think they take into account behavioural clauses, which would be more based around cause for termination, so much as performance incentives and bonuses.

I actually don't think clubs are allowed to put in special behavioural clauses. I don't think it's that sort of clauses - more guaranteed money versus performance based money that would impact it.

I’m fairly sure they include all the potential bonus’s in the salary they assess for compo purposes.

Hmm was looking forward to us nabbing a potential superstar key forward, that article quotes the the best key forward with a Mihocek comp. I love me some Mihocek, but not for a top 10 pick. Hopefully some others move up the rankings. We could do with a gun mid if there's no KPF's I guess.
