Hmm was looking forward to us nabbing a potential superstar key forward, that article quotes the the best key forward with a Mihocek comp. I love me some Mihocek, but not for a top 10 pick. Hopefully some others move up the rankings. We could do with a gun mid if there's no KPF's I guess.
If Checkers was 7cm taller and got his set shot work back up to scratch he’d be a superstar. Having a 200cm kid compared to his play style isn’t a bad thing.

I’m fairly sure they include all the potential bonus’s in the salary they assess for compo purposes.
Doesn't the AFL also consider the where the player sits in salary band at their existing club? If a club loses a top tier player, I think it also leads to a higher pick.

But, if JDG wants to play at the Pies and continues to deliver what he has recently (or over this past dozen AFL games), can't see why we wouldn't want to sign him up.

No club, no matter which player, has received more than a single first round pick after their nominal first. I can’t see the AFL suddenly changing that when the jungle drums are beating more towards dropping compo all together.

I’m not saying that. What you highlighted was my understanding that weight is given to where the player you lose sits in importance to the team and salary tends to be a reflection of that. So if JDG is among the best paid at the Pies, then it would come into consideration when determining if we receive a 1st or 2nd round pick if we were to lose him.
Or that at least was my understanding. But I could be wrong.

They did alter the rules to enable them to vary the compensation as required. Don’t recall them changing anything to date but they can.

It's part of working out whether the player is a restricted or unrestricted free agent - not sure about whether it is a compo factor.

Those are a ridiculous group of 20m sprint times.
Are they? Those numbers look to be for NAB league overall so at a guess most of the kids being tested won’t make it to state screenings let alone the combine. I feel like that’s how it would go most years and weve never got NAB league data before. Genuine question as well not being a smarty pants!

Pie 4 Life Nick Watson’s a 2023 prospect, yeah? On the basis of the footage from his game v the Jets that I’ve seen he’d be up to AFL level today and probably offer as much as Rachele. That torp after the siren was Blightesque!

Yeah Nick Watson is a Pick 1 contender. We're going to have the age old question of height vs quality again. Absolute outstanding, ridiculous talent. The issue is he's actually sub-170cm. So that's going to be a huge talking point, but he's absolutely star quality.

Gee he has a little bit of ego this young fella 😂

As you can probably tell from my post I haven’t really seen anything v what a draft watcher would see, but you can see immediately why he’s that highly rated! Assuming he’s just about done growth wise sub-170cm is going to make him the most divisive top 5 pick ever. Appreciate the feedback 👍

Bit surprised Tsatas wasn’t high up there though.

Maybe a case of player who actually knows how to use their speed, rather than just being capable.
2.93 for Tsatas, so really just missed out

I think the question has pretty much been answered - the game has seen a pronounced switch from size towards agility that will continue as skills continue to improve.

Who is that guy and what is his height? I wasn't paying much attention to recruitment back when this photo was taken.

Collingwood NSW scholarship prospect Elijah Edwards… poor kid just never grew over 165cm.

There was some footage somewhere at the time. The kid was electric ⚡

I’m all in for a KPD as our first pick or trade option after last night.

Rough is near the end and whilst I like Dean he’s unproven at this stage. We need another.

I agree it’s still an area of concern.

But not as much as our lack of any quality key forward prospects.

IMO our focus, in order, should be:

1. Key forward
2. Key back
3. Inside midfielder

Agree. We have some big holes to fill and key forward is number 1. We have one Hawkins or Cameron type and we win last night.
Having said that, a key stopper like Roughie plays and we prob win anyway.

I like your focus areas
We have drafting, trading and free agency to utilise over next 2-3 seasons

I don’t think it’s a disaster finishing out of bottom 5 this year but that would mean a need to trade very carefully either back into the draft, for gun players or both

Aldo hoping Freddie continues to emerge and a couple late draft picks become inspired choices
