Strachan - delist
Walker - Retire/1 year contract
Crouch - delist
McAsey - new contract if form warrants

No chance Strachan gets delisted unless we find a developing Ruck this trade period.
Walker almost no chance to regress next year to the point that we wouldn't offer him another year.
Crouch unlikely to be delisted because he will be a unrestricted Free Agent in 2023, and unlike this year clubs won't need to cough up a draft pick for him.
McAsey - Well yeah, anyone will get a new contract if form warrants, that goes without saying.

No (at least, I don't think so), because of List Lodgement dates, and the rules the AFL put in place last year.

Under the 2021 rules, and I'm assuming they still apply in 2022, the window for moving players from senior to rookie lists is between the ND and RD. I'm fairly sure that draft selections are determined by list vacancies as of the last List Lodgement before the ND. If this is correct, then we can't draft an extra player, and then move a senior player to the rookie list after the fact.

The only way to create that senior list vacancy is to delist a player (though we can re-draft them in the RD).

We can do it now, but comes down to risk of the delisted player being picked up elsewhere (as Port did with the Williams delist yesterday).

I would think Seedsman, Crouch and McPherson would be the options, Strachan is too big a risk.

Strachan - unless he plays games next year is not going to get another contract. We will look for a developing ruck either this year or next.
Crouch - we could have given him up for pick 99. No one wanted him and they won't next year unless he plays games and well.
Walker - who knows. Maybe he does regress.
McAsey - no need to be a dick.

We are looking at a potential major overhaul of our list next year. (obviously they're not ALL going to happen, but I can see some spuds getting new contracts because we simply won't have the option to get rid of them all.

Most likely to not be at the Crows after 2023?

Crouch
Seedsman
McPherson
McAsey

Another season of mediocrity and you can include:

Sholl
Borlase
Newchurch

Contracted until end of 2023
Rory Sloane - Retire/Contract 1 year
Chayce Jones - New contract/Delist/trade (Would need to have a solid year next year. If Tassie get the green light for a team in 2024 then it might be perfect time to offload him)
Harry Schoenberg - New contract
Andrew McPherson - Delist
Josh Worrell - New Contract ASAP
Shane McAdam - New Contract
Jordan Butts (R) - New Contract
Fischer McAsey - Delist/Trade
Tom Doedee - New Contract
Darcy Fogarty - New Contract
Lachlan Murphy - Delist potential
Nick Murray (R) - New Contract
Kieran Strachan (R) - New Contract
Matthew Crouch - Trade
Paul Seedsman - Delist/retire
Jackson Hately - - Delist/trade
Zac Talyor - New Contract
Luke Nankervis - New Contract
Taylor Walker - New Contract
James Borlase - Delist
Tariek NewChurch - Delist

Contracted until end of 2024

Lachlan Sholl - Could be traded in 2023
Will Hamill - Depending on further head injuries may also be a retire in 2023
The Tas proposal is for 2027 entry so I'd say Jones stays for now.
Cant imagine Strachan doesn't look for opportunities elsewhere unless he gets significant game time next year.
If Hamill medically retires, we likely need to keep him on a list for 2024 just for salary cap purposes. More or less agree with all the rest.

If Crouch is delisted, I think he'd be picked up as a DFA. Look at Greenwood last year, and Crouch is better than him.

McPherson would be the one IMO, though I wouldn't be too concerned about losing a 27yo ruck who's played 2 games in his career even if we don't have another ruck on the list. We can worry about that on the odd chance ROB has a LTI.

Why do we keep Hamill on the list for cap purposes in 2024?

Why not him? there’s a chance he may not play again but if he does make a recovery then he can still play from the rookie list.

We could do it with crouch or McPherson.
He’s a contracted senior player who suffered a shocking injury and deserves some respect. But the point is if Reid didn’t **** up the list management, this wouldn’t be a discussion.

He really isn’t anymore, hence the complete lack of interest. Greenwood can go forward too.

If that was the thinking, then the entire football department need to be sacked.
Their job is to create a list to win an AFL premiership. We had a pick which should have been used to help with that.

At around that time we were talking about how SANFL wins are proof of our rebuild being on track. We were putting lots of eggs in the ‘being successful at SANFL’ basket.

Can’t see us delisting Strachan, he’s won the bnf 2 years in a row.
Not really his fault the coaches are wedded to ROB.

We can delist now, and hope to re-draft.

We can't just move them straight from senior to rookie list - at least, we can't use pick 46 if we do it this way.

Crouch as a FA last year, and attracted zero interest. His stocks fell further in 2022, and he didn't get any nibbles at the trade table. There is no reason whatsoever to think that he'd attract any interest as a DFA or UFA next year. He will almost certainly be delisted, and that will be the end of his AFL career.
