Big disconnect between coaches and list management if he doesn't get a new deal since he's been an automatic 22 player when healthy since he got here.
They've most likely offered him something he doesn't want to sign. If he has better offers elsewhere we know how that ends unless they up the offer.

he is most certainly not the player I would have low balled. I like him as a player - tough, efficient and knows how to defend
lol, exactly the kind of player the AFC does not want. We prefer weak, inefficient and runs one way.

Losing Hill, GWS will need a small forward. Luckily we have an excess of them in McHenry, Rowe and Murphy! Swap all 3 for hopper 😂

2022 off-season moves

Trade:
Sholl (we throw in a 4th rounder and receive Carlton’s 2nd round pick)

Crouch (I have no idea if anyone would even give us a top 50 pick for him. Take it and run if they will. Just get him out)

McAsey (quick, take pick 50 before everyone realises he’s not even good enough to be an SANFL defender. Probably the worst top 10 draft pick taken in the last 10 years. Caleb Serong says hi - that’s who we could and should have drafted here.)

Delist:
Frampton (no role exists for him at AFL level. Period.)

Rowe (his forward pressure is non-existent, he’s slow, and his conversion rate in front of goal was a major strength at SANFL level, and quite simply has not translated to AFL level. Bye.)

Davis (rookie list - clogging a spot, should never have been kept on in 2022)

Borlase (rookie - let’s face it, he’s never going to play a senior game of football for anyone ever. He’s Keenan Ramsay with 2 eyes)

Would be nice if we could lure Hopper over, but he’d have to be insane to choose us over Geelong or Richmond so I doubt it.

Round 1 2023 team (assuming no players are stupid enough to agree to be traded here):

B: Doedee - Butts - Hamill
HB: Parnell - Murray - Hinge
C: Cook - Laird - Dawson
HF: Soligo - Walker - Rachele
F: Fogarty - Thilthorpe - McAdam
R: Strachan - Berry - Keays
Int: Smith, Taylor, Worrell, Schoenberg

Emg (from): Newchurch, Gollant, Turner, O’Brien, Nankervis, Pedlar, Milera, Pick 3, Pick 21

Depth only: McHenry, Jones, Murphy, Rowe, Himmelberg, Hately, Brown, McPherson

Injured: Sloane, Seedsman

Dead men walking in 2023 (ie I would not keep them at the club beyond the end of 2023):

Sloane (retired / cooked)
Hately (not good enough)
Seedsman (likely forced into retirement with concussion symptoms)
Murphy (not good enough)
McHenry (not good enough)
Brown (retired / cooked)
Jones (maybe someone else besides Haggis will be stupid enough to not notice that he has zero football IQ - trade bait)
McPherson (no real weapons and injury prone)
Himmelberg (decent enough depth player, but I’d rather an 18 year old 199cm lottery ticket than this known mediocre quantity)

We have a glut of kids which means we have to wait to see if they make it. Normally a list is more spread out in age and the delistings take care of themselves.
Yeah, I would have thought that was obvious.

Nothing to controversial there is there...that's it in total..
Huh - that seems like one of the most innocuous and inarguable statements ever made.

One day those outside Victoria will come to the realization, its still the VFL competition that has feeder Clubs in all states.
It's been years since we've lost a player we wanted to keep, isn't it?

Again, a big disconnect then if we're low balling a guy the coach clearly has in his best 22.
No, they'll just sign him later, once they know what they need for any new players they're targetting and they have visibility on list spots.

It's not like teams will be lining up for Hinge, and it's good to have a few spots that we can confirm as late as possible. We have **** all flexibility as it is.

Yeah, I would have thought that was obvious.
Actually it isn’t, we’ve drafted average players, we’ve re-signed players and given long term deals to players we shouldn’t have.

And the stupidity of your response is you’ve basically acknowledged we have an average list without even realising it. So you must be critical of the club then right ;)

First centre bounce R1 2023.

Sloane/mcrouch, laird and keays..

Toranto playing half back

JHF on a wing.

Go ahead.. laugh.
Clearly delusional.

JHF isn’t experienced enough for our AFL side we would be to uncompetitive he would be playing HFF in the SANFL.

Interestingly on SEN they just said Sholl to Carlton will not be happening. Given they like to create drama this surprises me and I take it on face value despite their track record showing their are incompetent

At least we have equal billing now with other suitors .....would be a great pickup ....correct age group

Being overtaken by Tom Green, who's going to be a superstar in the GWS midfield

Trade would be interesting .....certainly not worth pick 3/4

IMO trading Sholl would be a surprising move .....I understand the education on developing a more contested game

Hell, we don't want a Jayden Stephenson type player

Thats why geelong and richmond would be in the box seat. Their 1st round picks are much more in the hitting zone than ours is

Have there been any sides younger than us in history that have been competitive?
From 2014

The famous 'Baby Bombers' of 1993 had an average age of 24y 106d in the 1993 Grand Final.
The Pies of 2010 were even younger at 24y 57d.

Meanwhile the Carlton team of 2002 averaged over 26y at round 1 and came last.

Yeah I heard that. Maybe it's another club like north or he stays until ooc and clubs may pick him up for nothing if we delist him.

We’ve gotten around it by not wanting to keep them.
I think getting rid of players we don't want to keep is a pretty good strategy.

I'm more worried about being stuck with players that we've realised we don't want to keep, but I guess that happens with giving kids an extra year or so.

That's actually very interesting - thanks for that.
