YesCan we trade away both this year's 1st round pick and our 2023 1st round pick?
2020 - 2x - Thilthorpe, PedlarMy understanding is that the Crows can trade two 1st round picks, but must use two 1sts in a rolling 4 year period.
I think.
My understanding is that you can ask for an exemption in the 2024 scenario? Especially given the age of Rankine and JHF and that they are also 1st rounders as well.2020 - 2x - Thilthorpe, Pedlar
2021 - 1x - Rachele
2022 - trade
2023 - trade
Would have to keep 2024 first unless we keep a first out of the Rankine and JHF trades somehow.
Thanks. I've got a headache now though
You could, but we aren't Geelong. My understanding is that you can ask for an exemption in the 2024 scenario? Especially given the age of Rankine and JHF and that they are also 1st rounders as well.
Love it, but unless JHF has an ordinary year next year, NM would be wanting significantly more IMOIn theory, our first this year for Rankine, our first next year for JHF.
To us?JHF has told North he wants to be traded this year.
It's happened. Whether they are willing to do it or not is still to be seen.
Given the whole idea is to protect clubs from themselves, you would think that if you could show that you were spending your first round picks to bring in players of similar age and talent then it would make sense to get an exemption. My understanding is that you can ask for an exemption in the 2024 scenario? JHF has a lot more value this year than next given he’s contracted.Love it, but unless JHF has an ordinary year next year, NM would be wanting significantly more IMO
No arguments here, but my opinion was based on a trade being done next year.Given the whole idea is to protect clubs from themselves, you would think that if you could show that you were spending your first round picks to bring in players of similar age and talent then it would make sense to get an exemption.

Yep that values Rankine at a pick in the 30's before a premium is added.Yep, 4 for Rankine and 8
Yep, you're right. Someone mentioned the other day that this was equivalent to pick 13, and I believed it without checking.Yep that values Rankine at a pick in the 30's before a premium is added.
I'd like a wager that wont happen
So 4 and 22 is worth ~ 8 and 11 on points...Yep that values Rankine at a pick in the 30's before a premium is added.
I'd like a wager that wont happen
The only argument I’d see against that is the new coach would likely want to have a crack at trying to convince JHF to stay.If you knew JHF would ask for a trade at the end of 2023 (he's adamant he won't change his mind), and has already asked for one this year, North would be smart to trade him this year whilst he's contracted and get maximum value.
If we add a 2nd it gets around the mark I'm just going to be surprised if we get Rankine and keep a top 10 pickYep, you're right. Someone mentioned the other day that this was equivalent to pick 13, and I believed it without checking.
It should have been done when Pyke and Burton were sacked. Tbh it shouldn't have even needed to be done by the club. Roo must have some cheek to have not stood down himself when his mate that he employed singlehandedly nearly destroyed the club. What type of person doesn't volunteer to leave? In saying that a strong board should have requested that he distance himself from the club. The only thing I can think of is that they are scared of him and scared his kids won't play for the club if they decide to play football and are good enough.Rubbish. Sacking a director who wants to remain is a massive action. We’ve had ample reasons to do it, but haven’t yet, it’s no small deal.
Why would GC give 8 back? Just can't see it happening.Yep, 4 for Rankine and 8
Has this been reported anywhere ?JHF has told North he wants to be traded this year.
It's happened. Whether they are willing to do it or not is still to be seen.
I reckon he’s too stubborn to admit he did anything wrong, probably thinks that back in his day players were just tougher and would’ve copped it and got on with it.It should have been done when Pyke and Burton were sacked. Sounds good but there's no way we are getting Horne and Rankine in the same year. I believe Horne should stay at North and leave when out of contract which is in 12months. A trade then will require at least our 2023 1st and 2nd and a player I would imagine. I would be happy with Rankine, our 2022 1st used in the draft (pick 5-6) and Brennan Cox from Freo.If we really want to go all out this year (and be incredibly brave), I'd go for this:
We have 1st round pick, 2nd round pick and a pick late in the draft (70's?) this year.
So,
Trade 1
Out: Pick 4, Sholl, Murphy
In: JHF, 2023 2nd round pick (North)
In other words it values JHF slightly less than pick 4 and Sholl slightly more than a 3rd round pick. Sholl and Murphy gives North some immediate help as well.
Trade 2
Out: 2023 1st round pick, 2023 2nd round pick
In: Rankine, GC 2022 2nd round pick (tied to Fremantle)
Gold Coast get a likely high first round pick. Helps them with possible academy picks in 2023. They also swap out one of their (many) 2nd round picks in 2022 for one in 2023.
Trade 3
Out: Himmelberg
In: Likely 3rd round pick Fremantle get for Lobb
Trade 4
Out: Matt Crouch
In: 3rd/4th round pick in 2022 (points for us for F/S). Given how well B Crouch has played, I think there will be a club thinking they can get more out of M Crouch.
Trade 5
Out: McAsey
In: WB 2nd round pick (27)
So at this point we have a net result of:
Out:
2022 pick 4
2023 first round pick
2023 second round pick
Murphy
Sholl
Himmelberg
Crouch
McAsey
In:
JHF
Rankine
North 2023 2nd round pick
GC 2022 2nd round pick (Tied to Fremantle)
Fremantle 2022 3rd round pick
2022 3rd/4th round pick
2022 WB 2nd round pick
So, our draft hand looks like
2022: Our 2nd, WB 2nd, GC 2nd, 3rd round (Fre), 3rd/4th round pick + 70ish
2023: 2nd round pick (North), 3rd round pick
Then try and trade our 2 early 2nd round picks up for a pick in the first round (Brisbane maybe? Will this be better points for them)
2022 Draft then:
Pick 16 (Brisbane): Brayden George (Vic Country) 186 cm explosive forward, or Ollie Hotton.
GC 2nd round pick: Used for bid on Michalanney
Then Match bid on Keeler.
Add a KPD and ruck with late picks/rookie draft.
These playstation trades are easy. I don't know why you lot get worked up over it
The problem here is that it is the Crows wanting to do it, not Geelong. My understanding is that the Crows can trade two 1st round picks, but must use two 1sts in a rolling 4 year period.
I think.
So unnecessaryIt's a pity the AFL has to have all those stupid, boring finals before we get to trade week...
