Kelly basically admitting that Crouch has asked to be traded I thought. And Kelly trying to position that we’ve told crouch he’s contracted.

Ie our negotiating position is already compromised and he’s doing a s**t job of trying to rectify.
Pretty much what I meant. Crouch is gone.

Why is our negotiating position compromised?

Fair enough that Crouch wants to go and fair enough for us to say that you're contracted and we see a role for you on our list.

The issue for Crouch's management will be finding someone who wants him. He's perfectly fine for us for a year as midfield backup.

Interesting thought.
I'm tending to think the players were just participants.

Roo however should rightly feel the maximum pressure.

The best thing he can do for his club and the players is to now behave as the leader his title demands.

Roo should take the ultimate responsibility for the camp, the subsequent club response in regard it's lack of transparency....and he should resign from the board.
I think Roo was asleep at the wheel and backed in the wrong person in Burton.

Fine that Roo goes, but losing a volunteer board member isn't a massive action.

So if the Rankine rumours are true, how will the trade play out?

Is the following fair:

Crows out : 2023/1 (likely to be a top 4 pick )
Crows in : Rankine , GC pick 34 (the last of their second round picks )

Hit the draft with pick 4 (Tsatsas or phillipou).
Pick 23: keeler (or any other kPP)
Pick 34: michealanny (or points for him)
Next pick : developing ruck
Here's my go.

Pick 4 and 2023 3rd Round for Rankine, 24 and 35.

We then package 22 and 35 for 14 from Brisbane.

We grab Rankine, the best available mid at 14 and the best available tall at 24. I think Max comes in the late 20s.

Now do one where we get JHF as well.

Feel we should strike how before Clarkson makes JHF happy. This’ll probably be spiked by us winning 2/3 on the run home, but:

  • 4 & 22 for Rankine & 8
  • 2023 First & Doedee for JHF
  • Phillipou with 8
  • Trade out Sholl, H’berg/Frampton (Crouch 🤞)
  • Michaelanney matched bid with later picks.

Moir isn’t a chance for 2023 draft given he’ll be #1 so aim for a free agent given we can clear Sloane, Seedsman, Brown, Crouch, Hately (maybe Smith?) from the cap in 2024.
Smith contracted to end of 2024

Given dudes is a pre-agent this year, I imagine there would be genuine interest from other clubs.
Genuine interest? on what basis do you think other clubs could be interested?

I don't reckon he's got much currency, injuries, ordinary form, clubs can wait until he's potentially free next year.

Might be of a little value as part of a package in a trade with North for JHF

Symbolically important in our current predicament in my view.

The club is being dragged through the mud due to something done in the football department. With such widespread discredit being (deservedly) directed towards our club, as director of football, he should not remain in this role.

It's better for Roo if he jumps but the club should act if he chooses to fight it out.

Irrespective of what happens to Roo, the club will be questioned and judged on how the club has acted since the camp. Unfortunately, we should all brace for this.

I think we can all agree he's worth a first rounder.

There's a fair argument he's worth a top 15 pick when you look at other players traded over the years. Remember we received pick 12 for Charlie Cameron.

So if we traded pick 4 I would expect to receive Rankine and pick around 16 back. Rankine, Keeler, Michelanney works for me.
Doesn't for me...Midfielder

That can be acheived by swapping 1st round picks and something like next year's 2nd.

Suns have highly rated Academy players next year they'll need points

Working out potential trades is impossible and a waste of time with so much water to under the bridge this year.

We should get enough points for Michaelanny from players traded out.

Be interesting to see what pick 4-6 is worth?
Should be around 2 mid teen picks.
There should be a few teams that have the draft capital to trade up and split picks.

I don't see GC giving up pick 8.
I can for our 1st rounder.

Would be stunned if JHF moved. When was the last time a really high draft pick (let alone a #1) moved after 1 year? I can see him moving next year, when his contract expires.

Rankine + a first round pick for a midfielder + Michaelanny would be a massive offseason. Surely one of the Crows best.

Rubbish. Sacking a director who wants to remain is a massive action. We’ve had ample reasons to do it, but haven’t yet, it’s no small deal.

I agree ....depends on who gets the Coaching gig at NORTH ....if I'm JHF management, I'd be recommending he watch & wait ....if it's Clarko, lock the gate, he stays .....but if the crashdummy season of 2022 repeats in 2023 ....he'll leave

If we can get Rankine .....the momentum could prove irresistible to JHF

You reckon Port won't pounce on Philippou before us if we get pick 8 (assuming they still have their current pick 7)?

I'm struggling to see how we can end up with Rankine this year and JHF next year, we just don't have the draft capital or players to trade to get that capital.

Ideally I want to get Rankine and Philippou this year (that will take some creative trading itself) and JHF next year, I just don't know how that can be achieved.

I think it’s a similar situation to Dawson last year. He’s probably worth something around 8-12, but we’ve only got picks either side of that.

We probably won’t want to give up our first rounder, they won’t want to accept our second, hopefully we can make something happen and keep our first rounder like we did last year.
Can someone remind me how we got the Melbourne pick last year used in the Dawson trade please.

Yes, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that we MUST draft a pure midfielder, with Crouch probably going & Sloane near the end. I think I posted recently that James Rahilly said in a very recent interview that a mid was the priority in this year's draft. Pick 8 would possibly still get us Phillipou, or Mackenzie or Hewett. Thoughts on Oliver Hollands who seems to be racing up the board - elite kick, amongst other traits? Another natural footballer - we need more of those!! Mackenzie has speed & also is an elite kick. Hewett is more of the same for the Crows I suspect.
I heard two separate discussions last weekend on the common denominator between the top teams this year & that is that they have a number of fast, gut runners who work their bottoms off every game. We currently have the hard workers, but not significant speed - Keays a notable exception.
