We're walking a very narrow road this time around, dependent upon trading contracted players just to meet the AFL's mandatory minimum requirements.
This annoys me the most. Why do always sign most of our list when we know nobody wants them?

We lose so much flexibility when we do

He played 30 games before coming to us. He was just behind a lot of Brisbane mids, for good reason too.

He is attributes are clearly better suited to midfield (Keays) and his lack of AFL was a result of Brisbane's list at the time.
Otherwise he would have been playing forward for them.
So how doesn't that relate to the Gold Coast's midfield depth the whole time Bowes has been there...should I name the mids that have run through the Suns midfield during Bowes tenure?

Gold Coasts? Having a laugh surely.

They've had to go draft Rowell, Hollands, Anderson etc since 2019 to rebuild it.

Think Bowes starting playing as a defender in 2020, IIRC? I.e. the likes of Rowell, Anderson, even Greenwood when he was there would’ve pushed him out

Either way, if he comes here - he’d fill a need both as either a defender or a potential classy midfielder

Well it's not a massive stretch of the imagination.

GC are reportedly in a massive salary cap hole not only going into next year, but in their ability to hold onto anticipated high draft pick academy players in the coming years, as well as trying to hold onto all the stars they currently have.

The question is which players are GC trying to get rid of to alleviate their salary cap pressure? In a perfect world they get to choose who walks out the door, but when it comes down to it their salary cap needs to be reduced one way or another. Hollands wouldn't be on minimum chips with his current contract set to expire 2024, and by the sounds of it their cap issues are going to be around for the foreseeable future.

We should be absolutely up to our eyeballs in asking the question of just about anyone on their list in terms helping them relieve their cap pressure, and Rankine should be considered amongst those (despite the fact he's uncontracted, us taking him is one less headache for their salary cap)
I’d be telling them we are coming after Hollands with all we have in 2024..

It might make them think about cashing in now.. given it also helps releive their cap..

Tigers are going after tarranto and a contracted Hopper from GWS.. why cant we go for Rankine and a contracted Hollands?… and we have a better draft hand than richmond so if they can get tarranto and hopper done….

Anderson was playing wing. No reason why he couldnt have been in there if he was actually suited to it.
He was clearly more adept down back.

Probably because we want to keep them? I would have thought that was obvious?

We've signed the players we wanted to retain, and left the others uncontracted. The problem is that some of the uncontracted players have gone backwards (e.g. Crouch) or haven't developed as hoped (e.g. Sholl), and we now find ourselves wanting to offload them. Note that neither of these players were signed to new contracts this year.

It’s not like he was stagnant up until he started playing defence. Showed steady growth for the first three years of his career

Point is, as long as he’s fit, there’s a risk worth taking there either way

Correct backed up by the stats...r50's spiked up exponentially...

Alex Davies still out of contract too.

Big bodied mid who can kick a goal.

Worth asking the question of the Suns.

Jarryd Lyons was running around there in their midfield for a couple of years racking up the clearances as well, Aaron Hall another, a little fella called Gablett for a couple as well

Lyons was average whilst at Suns.
Aaron Hall? Lol.
Gablett was finished by the time Bowes started playing. Traded to Cats end of 2017.

Bowes is a much better player than Chayce Jones, I'd have him in that role in a heartbeat

Yeah real average...averaged 7.3 clearances a game in 2018 and 5.8 a game in 2017.

From what I was told today, Pies want a 1st and 2nd rounder for Grundy still. They ain't giving him away, no matter what the salary situation is.
So Collingwood want to get rid of him and his salary but expect gold as well!! Wow. If any club goes for that, good luck. How can the pies have all this room in their cap after they got rid of Treloer last year and are playing his salary?? Would that mean the they will play 700k for them to play at another club?? Grundy is 28 and has 5 years left on his contract, I guess only a contender will do it .

Do Melbourne need him because he and Grundy are pure ruckman and can’t see how that works. Grundy is a poor forward who isn’t great at marking the ball, huge risk for mine. If Melbourne snag a flag or 2 with him, it will be worth it but if not? With Petracca and Oliver on big deals as well, it will set that club back 5 years

Now that the AFL has approved salary dumps we should be on the market for one.

We could take on some spud and maybe get a good 2nd rounder in the process
We should be offering to pay full salary of all traded players for better picks.

As much as I am curious about what that idiot has to say about the Dunkley trade (probably what he's read on BigFooty), I refuse to follow the link as they count web hits and it gives him oxygen.
I feel much happier ignoring him ;)

14 games in 2017, Bowes first year. Then goes to Geelong.
Irrelevant to Bowes midfielder discussion.
Have you even seen Bowes play? Or just jumped on Footywire for some empty stats?

Bowes is best 22 at AFC every day of the week. Good user of the ball, hard at it, can play defense in the Nick's mold, and is being starved of opportunity. Has played well in the 2's after a shit run with injuries. Given a clear run at a full preseason, he's a weapon off halfback or as an outside mid.
