Apologies if this has been mentioned.

The AFL rules state you have to take a first round pick at least every three years. Is that a problem if we are seriously into JHF?

I just presumed if he is gettable we would just do a 23 and 24 first round pick as part of the trade but if pick 5 goes as part of the Rankine deal this year then we can't do that.

Apparently the AFL grand t exemptions but I don't think anyone could be confident of that especially as they won't want JHF to leave North.

I'm sure our club is incompetent enough to not work that out too.

Hopefully we can get a second round pick from Gold Coast as a part of the Rankine trade then use the two seconds to move up into the first round.

Could be pick 18 by the time we get to use it.

Hoping this has all been worked out and it's an early deal, gonna hate it if it's a last day trade/no trade
If it's an early deal, we haven't gone hard enough.
From Reid's talk, it looks like he is planning to take most of the ten days anyway. (Ten days is really ridiculous. It should be five.)

I'm fairly convinced at this point a lot of people in the football media don't actually watch that much football.

It was like he just watched Rendell's analysis from the day before who clearly does watch us [yes I know he does] and tried to remember what he said but turned up pretty blank so just reverted to the late 2020 narrative.

Looks like mcasey could be on the move , so should we ask for a top 6 pick using vic media bias logic plus he has a contract ?
Pick in the 20's or we may as well keep him & hope he comes good.

Don't forget that we will need more than a top 6 pick due to all of the work we did with him on and off the field :D

They don't, unless it's a game they are working at or a special interest they just make it up. To be fair I think Kane is the only one that appears to be accross all 18 teams.

He says he watches all games but it can take until Monday night to get through then.

Googling says you need to use have used 2 in a 4 year period, so for next year that means we'd have had to have used 2 1st rounders through the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons.

We've got

2019 - McAsey
2020 - Thilthorpe, Pedlar, Cook
2021 - Rachele
2022 - Nil (assuming we trade 5 for Rankine)

So there shouldn't be any issues trading our 2023 pick and future 1st in 2024 and as long as we pick up someone in 2025 we'd still have taken 2 in a 4 year period. Basically I think having taken 3 in 2020 means we're a bit ahead of the curve in having the numbers needed to satisfy the requirements.

Violating this rule has a bit of being hit by a wet lettuce penalty anyhow (ie. can't trade future picks).

But because if it's us it would be a frozen tuna ... am I doing it right ?

Supposedly the AFL take into account the age of the player being brought in too. So if it's Rankine and JHF, by their own idea that would be fine because it's a young player who'll have a long career. The idea on the rule was so you didn't trade in those 30 year olds every year to try and top up your list and then be devastated in 4-5 years time when you had no youth and a bunch of players retired.

JHF probably (if we got him next year), Rankine ... maybe. In any case, it would be ridiculous in our case given how many youth we've brought in the last few years.

Wouldn't it be look like this though in this four year block?
2021 - Rachele
2022 - Nil (assuming we trade 5 for Rankine)
2023 - Nil (Trade for JHF)
2024 - Nil (Trade for JFH)

Cal Twoomy said the AFL would approve it given what we are trading for. My point is I just don't trust the AFL

They kept using the word "preceding" in the article I read on why they could trade into the future, so in 2023 we'd of met their criteria still.

It'd just mean after that we couldn't trade 2025/2026 1st rounders I'm guessing.

By the end of next year if JHF still wants out it might only take an early first and second, his value certainly hasn’t increased to this point!
