Not just contracts but a distinct lack of ruthlessness in resect to disappointing/middling players. There's a world where you cut/move on from Jones, McAsey, Murphy, Hately, McHenry, Milera, Rowe, Himmelberg, Borlase, McPherson, Davis, Newchurch, Strachan and Turner.

You'll get half of those right and half of those wrong.

You'd be bloody amazed if any of them ended up being difference makers on good sides though.

There are lots of average role players on the list for premiership clubs. A number of those above belong on an AFL list - they just aren’t the core components to success

Expecting a straight bat all the way but hoping for some cow corner slogs.
I want to know how many players we're looking to Draft this year .....hoping for two PLUS Rankine

You'd think at least two with Michaelanney in the picture.
My gut says we don't keep our current 2nd pick .....so Michaelanney needs to fall after pick #25 🤞

I really like Michalanney ....but if it came to a choice between he and Harry Barnett .....I'd go Barnett as a greater need, but will he drop that far ....doubtful

Interesting Twomey has Michalanney at 25 and Keeler at 27.

Given our second rounder if we keep it will possibly be before Max gets picked, meaning we can pick him up with junk picks, surely he still has to be on our radar?

Hope you're right with the second pick, it might mean we're still in the first round. Personally, I can't see us looking at Keeler with a pick in the 20's.

Absolutely, problem is that at a premiership club the role players are blokes like Keays, Berry, Doedee etc.

Most of those blokes could be the 22nd to 30th best player on a premiership side without question. Having them being half the list of a shit side much more problematic.

Disagree with that. The 3 you have named would sit inside the starting 18 for a premiership team

Berry could easily develop into a premiership starting mid

Far better than premiership players such as Webb, Robert’s and Biggs from Bulldogs flag, or Cole Venerables and Hutchins from WCE, caddy, Baker Castagna from Richmond etc

Baker is a gun.

But i don't think we disagree, premiership sides have role players in their starting 18s. All those three are certainly capable of being that.

It's relying on them to be your top 10 players in a premiership side that's the difficulty.

More broadly, who on our list looks like being a top 10 player in a top side?

Thilthorpe, Fogarty, Rachele, Dawson and Rankine you'd be pretty confident with?

Maybe Berry, Soligo and Worrell if they come on?

Suggests we need at least five more guns after we get Rankine.

Might add I have hope for Pedler and Cook, but hope is as good as it gets.

Justin Reid on Trade Radio today at 12 noon

Trade Exchange
12pm – 1pm
Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge
They went early... oh wait, you meant EST time?

Adelaide list boss Justin Reid spoke to Riley Beveridge and Cal Twomey about the club's chase for Suns star Izak Rankine. "I won't go into the detail, but obviously pick five is sitting there. We're just working through what that looks like. We'll catch up a bit more next week and work through that as we get closer to the deadline," he said. Listen to more of the chat below.

'Pick 5 is sitting there, we're just looking through what that looks like'

Basically that means we're giving up Pick 5, but my guess is that there's some haggling about what comes back to us.

pick 5 for Rankine and pick 25 and 43 and we walk away feeling ok, Suns get pick 5 and give back pick 25 and one of their 3rds they won't use anyway..probably feel like they have not lost on the deal

Wtaf is Sanderson on about with his summary?
We are going to miss Luke Brown, the bloke that barely played in the back half of the year (will miss him to an extent) but he is happy with the experience down back? But concerned about our forward line? Our forward line is the most elite thing we have going for us.

Usually don't mind listening to him but he definitely hasn't been watching us.

Wow it is kinda hard to believe Sanderson would say that our forward line Tex Fog TT McAdam Roch and bring in Rankine it is an area we look really good any top AFL team would love that forward line the Dees for example would love that fwd line. There are many areas I'm worried about but the fwd line is not one of them. If he said he was worried about our midfield or if Butts and or Murray go down, we haven't got much back up then fine.

Glad I missed it.

I'm fairly convinced at this point a lot of people in the football media don't actually watch that much football.

No it DOESNT

what it means is we are deciding who we want to draft with our first pick
1. do we need 5
2. could we handle 7 in a pick swap
3. could we handle a later first that we squeeze 23 up the board

thats what it means it is not pick 5 is gone seriously team grow some balls
