but the fact remains that there wasn't a recruiter at any of the clubs who would have selected De Koning ahead of McAsey, so to criticise him for having selected McAsey is just plain ridiculous.

I might be harsh, but McAsey didn't look interested from the moment he was drafted to us. As in, literally on draft night.

I wonder if he’s just one of those people who always looks serious.

These guys are all taken around the mark predicted so development would seem to be a bigger issue?

I don't follow the U18s or mock drafts at all but do people do them based on what they think will happen? Or where they personally rate the players?

Eg if we've interviewed McAsey a bunch of times and there are whispers we're keen on him and have Pick 6 he magically appears at No 6 in mock drafts

You'd want to look at power rankings (see drafts and trading borad), draft watchers list best available predictions. Phantoms are predictions using intel. McAsey wouldnt be top 6 on any power rankings

Ok, so if someone appears high in a bunch of mock drafts that doesn't necessarily mean that the player is universally rated highly on ability.

Just that the mail is they will be taken highly by one particular club

Yep if it’s an afl media guy with connections it’s largely not what they rate as a talent order but what they’ve heard clubs will do

If it’s some guy with no connections it’s just that particular persons ratings

I've provided a resource, if you think it's incorrect then you should provide evidence to prove it isn't. In fact you said he wouldn't be pick 6 in any power ratings but he actually was... this board needs more facts and less opinions/ hindsight.
