Brayshaw replaces Tucker and/or Acres.

Jackson's presumed salary chews up Lobb and Logue's dollars.

Jackson will be paid barely $50k more next year than Lobb is this year. Logue on half a million plus Acres plus Tucker is another million.

And all three could be second choice players in preferred roles

An interesting thought and list management discussion from the Jackson thread worth expanding on here but lets assume Jackson comes next year, if you change nothing else, what's your first choice forwardline?

Freddy Amiss Walters
Switta Lobb Jackson

Schultz off the bench

Points worth noting before I get jumped on by some;
  • Is there any other club that plays two relatively immobile forwards like Tabs and Lobb? I'd argue we are definitely best off just with one of them and letting Amiss be the Cameron / Curnow mobile tall. Lobb has clearly gone past Tabs.
  • Where does this leave Logue
  • Where does this leave Fyfe
  • Where does this leave Tabs

On further reflection after not having my morning coffee and getting angry at Logue possibly leaving. Logue is in the very unenviable position of not being in out best back 7 despite probably being best back 7 of every other team in the league bar Melbourne. Jackson is probably taking Logue's current role next year.

Losing Logue AND Lobb would be disaster, if I had to lose one, it would be Logue.
Losing Lobb Acres Tucker and Logue is a disaster though.

Fyfe Walters Colyer and Hamling all on the way out on the next few too.

Depth has been out biggest strenghth this year and that will be gone very soon if all those players leave

Isn’t Lobb almost certainly gone?
I thought that whole conversation revolves around the fact that Lobb is definitely leaving, but no one knows what Logue is doing

Yes, I'd be making sure we dont lose all of them, especially not all this year. To be honest, if the out of contract ones want to leave, the contracted ones will probably have to stick around another year. I dont think I suggested losing them all.

He posted an emoji on instagram today and now has half the board swooning like schoolgirls that it means he's staying

The instagram post from this morning has given renewed hope that it might be possible to keep him. It's unlikely but there's a glimme...

I think one of the major aspects of list management we need to improve is outside sponsorship of players. Find another million bucks outside the cap as happens with several other clubs.

Our membership and media exposure are in the process of growing. Simultaneously WC will find things a little more difficult. We have an opportunity to catch up.

Individuals such as Serong and Brayshaw are dream marketing talent. Amiss could use a burger or 30, Acres and Logue could become the faces of spudshed. And Darcy could hold the doors for Doors R Us.

Get the money Garlick.

I think we're more dangerous as a mobile forward line, using our ridiculous speed on every line to get it in quick and burn off the gorilla defenders. I personally think Treacy, Amiss, Sturt and the quick smalls is a more dangerous set-up going forward.

Logue is a part of that mix with his athleticism and ability to halve a contest and get it to the quick smalls.

Tabs and Lobb would be surplus and slow us down too much, negating that speed advantage.

Especially late in matches with our team's fitness. It's why we've been able to run over the top of teams late.

I'd like us to lean into that.

If Jackson is on $750k there's not much of an issue. But it's speculation that he replaces Lobb in our line up. Just not convinced about him as a forward or his ability in that role immediately. I think we would be playing Amiss and Treacy, and hope we do anyway, but not alongside Jackson.

There’s a lot of recency bias in the debate here.
A player has a bad most recent game - everyone want to get rid.
A player has a good game - sign him up ASAP!!
At HT on Saturday, many fans would have literally driven Lobb and Acres across the Nullarbor to get rid of them.
By full time, they needed to be signed up at all costs!
Truth is always in the middle really.

Logue is the same, after the Sydney game it was a case of - pay that man whatever he wants!
This week, after he comes in (following an injury don’t forget) and has a nearly game, everyone is suddenly “ok with Logue leaving”.

It’s understandable but try assess these players over the 23 game season.
Lobb has been decent this year, but he’s still not an elite KPF. He kicked two great goals in Q3 last week, but there was a moment in Q2 watching on tv that it liked like Lobb had just given up, when we were 40 down. Several neutrals on the main board remarked on it. It was mainly Brayshaw/Serong/young/Ryan/Switta that never gave up. They put a few doubters throughout our 22 on their back and said “come with us, lads, it’s not done yet”

Acres has been better this year for sure, and is a good player in our system. But his kicking is weak and I would back Longmuir and co to find another role player with a good tank to give us the same output.

Logue - he was not great the last day for sure. But there’s a reason other sides are clambouring for him, he’s a ready made KPP aged 24 and could (probably will) play 150 very high quality games for the next 8 years or so for someone. If we can somehow keep him, longer term he’s the one most likely of the 3 to give value up to 2030 for the dockers.

I don't want to get rid of Logue because he is not good, I think he should go because he is too good to do what he is doing here.

Lobb is a superior fwd/ruck to pretty much anyone and far better than Jackson at the role.

Lobb and Acres are interesting ones, both have probably had career best seasons.

Lobb has been even better than his best year at GWS (2016 I think), not elite as a KPF but very good.
Yes he has weaknesses, but he's been way more consistent and a pretty decent shot at goal too.
Would love to have him for the next 2-3 years and a bit annoyed he's leaving.

Acres has been very good this year, and I think we have more options to replace him, even if none are as good.

Logue isn't a world beater but I still cringe to think we'll lose him given the attributes he has to work with, he's a WA boy and we've done plenty for him (injury challenges, podcast, etc.).

Ok smartarse do you think a 20 year old can improve?
Lobb was not a good key foward at that age.
All of my thoughts on Jackson are well documented elsewhere.
To much put on the “ruck/forward”mantle. I would take Dixon over Lobb.
Me too, but that's because I'll concede the 2nd ruck for a better forward. Although, he is getting on.

Ruck/forward shouldn't even be a thing. Then you're just conceding two roles. Not as good as a ruck, not as good as a forward. Rather just have a forward pinch hit there and plan to concede those taps and rove accordingly and then play an actual forward.

Do you think JL has a bias there given he was a 'ruck/fwd'?
