Yep he would be perfect for that.
Keep him around the club somehow.
Jed is the best player of the 4 delisted today.
Turner has the best leadership credentials.
Walker and Atu offer very little IMO.
Id prefer we role the dice on new players than retain any of them to be honest.
Give a kid a crack who has an elite attribute or two.

It's the exaxt opposite of why the selections exist and what we want to achieve.

Walker in the vfl would seriously help keep structures in defence. We can’t have another season where Goater plays key back because zero options.

With list sizes being so small currently (44 for us 42 for everyone else) we cant have a full set of spare players in the reserves.
Dawson should start in the reserves, which means we probably need to recruit a KPD on our VFL list.
It will be interesting to see which way we go.
Goater will be in the firsts I reckon. I hope so anyways I want him in my supercoach team.

I completely agree with this, I certainly wasn’t suggesting he take up a list spot on the senior team. Once we recruited Logue, I think the writing was on the wall but we’re so breadth of leadership. So we can’t keep losing these types.
Does he have any coaching aspirations?
He’d be perfect coaching player in vfl.

If he wants to be a coach he would be much better off staying on our vfl list.
Problem is the whole vfl list has a salary cap of 200k.
He would get better money in the edfl.
The afl really needs to fix that. Leadership in the twos would be great for us.

My money would be on Turner as one of those.
Leadership group the last few years and apparently he does everything the right way on the track.

For mine I would only re-rookie Jed and/or Walker. Both for leadership and depth but really just in case of emergency if racked by injuries. Great VFL depth. I think the club is mindful that if we don’t pick up another KPD in the draft or SSP then Walker is the insurance we probably need. Jed fits that age range that we’re sorely lacking in.

Nothing personal against Turner but I feel as though he’s offered us absolutely nothing for a couple of years now. Time to cut him loose as we have done.

The last of the great list culls, I think I've got this right;
2022: 7 players
2021: 9 players
2020: 13 players
29 players over 3 years either desisted or traded.

It's the dawn of a new era, after years of giving players undeserved contract extensions and hanging on to players hoping they'd come good or they'd eventually get over their injuries we can now set a new standard.

Time to draw a line under the Scott / Joyce and Shaw / Noble eras it's onwards and upwards with Clarko / Viney / Brady.

I looked it up:

2019 - 7 players.

2020 was actually 14 including trades too. (I took those numbers from the draft guru site but I thought we let go more than 10 in 2016.)

So 67 or 68 players over the last 7 seasons. Nearly 10 per season.

I actually believe that good VFL depth/standards is almost as important as who will be there for the next tilt.

I thought 2016 was 11 not 10, but either way from 2016 to 2019 we delisted 38 or 39 players. That is nearly a full list, and it was before covid.

I'd be keeping Jed as a meat shield and as a weapon.

Someone mentioned Phillips and Wardlaw taking his place. Whats Jed gonna do to Wardlaw if they meet on the field next year? He might snap him in half. Give Jed two more years and then Phillips is probably capable of providing that physical presence in the midfield, Jy and LDU as well but till then I'd rather have him providing one more hard body around the contests. That is something none of the other guys provide. Even Cuinners and Greenwood aren't dynamic enough. If turner was 10 kg heavier he might be.

It doesn't matter that Jed probably won't be around for our next flag shot. What matters is players like Phillips, Powell and whoever else don't miss even more games developing into the players who will be in that side cos they got beat up by bigger opposition players too much next year.
