CLUBS TOLD TO EXPECT CAP LIFT

THE AFL has told clubs to plan for a five per cent rise in player payments next year as they work through their salary estimates for 2023.

Clubs received a memo from the League last week with guidelines for them to assume a five per cent uplift from the total player payments figure this year.

It is a budgeting value rather than a locked in figure, which will come after Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached with the AFL Players' Association, and are considered notional to assist with clubs facilitating their TPP process.

The five per cent rise would see the total player payments sit at $14,215,943 per club and the additional services agreement money rise to $1,291,912. Across both of those, it would see a total value of nearly $740,000 added per club.

That would likely be chewed up relatively quickly as clubs have built-in contract clauses for certain players for TPP uplifts.

The AFLPA had waited until after the recent record-breaking broadcast deal had been signed before starting CBA talks for the next players deal. – Callum Twomey

Given Pick 1 would be Ashcroft, I'd argue it should be looked at this way.
We are getting the equivalent of a Pick 1 return for JHF, which is fair. This was never going to be a home run trade for us, but it is an acceptable reset
I think the screenshot isn't adding 3000 points for jhf

KANGAROO IN SUNS' MIX

OUT-OF-CONTRACT North Melbourne midfielder Jed Anderson is a name on Gold Coast's radar.

The Suns are monitoring his situation and could look to add him as a delisted free agent next month, rather than during the trade period given his contract status.

The 28-year-old played 14 games for the Kangaroos in 2022 after missing most of the pre-season due to his reluctance to be vaccinated.

It is understood that the Suns' interest in the Northern Territorian is building as they look to help add depth to their midfield ahead of the 2023 season.

Anderson was coached by Gold Coast head of development Rhyce Shaw at Arden Street and has remained in contact with the former North Melbourne senior coach.

The NT Thunder product started his career at Hawthorn after being traded from Greater Western Sydney as a prelisted player, before moving to the Kangaroos after playing 10 games across three seasons.

Gold Coast list manager Craig Cameron has already completed trades for Ben Long and Tom Berry with Izak Rankine moving to Adelaide on Monday and Jack Bowes set to land at Geelong before the deadline on Wednesday night. – Josh Gabelich

Listing to Brady I can see the logic in 2 and 3 being they rate 3 players evenly so we now get 2 of the 3 we rated at 1 so there is that.

But I still feel that we could have got something in the 19-20’s to use as well.

Oh well the Judarse Hore is gone so to is my Pick 1 jumper, consigned to the rubbish bin of life, at least the club got a donation for “free” out of me!!

It doesn't matter what we rate ffs. It matters what GWS rate and if it differs to us.

GWS put in 3, 12 and Collingwood's future 2nd for 1, 53, 57

The 53 and 57 offset Collingwood's 2nd round pick so GWS put in 3 and 12. 12 went to Port to give to Eagles for Rioli and pick 2.

We should have got 2 and future 1st from port as a minimum for JHF, that would have put a mild premium on a contracted pick 1 of his value. It wasn't a legitimate attempt by Port to put in market value.

Fate might make us come out okay or even better, but based on present day valuations it wasn't a great trade, we coughed up our premium from 1 to 3 to make the JHF trade tolerable.

I assume we have to pay the premium of moving from 5 to 2.

Which is fine... except they never ****ing had 5.

We provided parameters which were not met, then appeased our violators by offering up the difference ourselves to facilitate said violation all welll before the deadline, which could have created even more value.

Multiple failures IMO, especially around the use of time, hand and future landscape. why didn’t we wait for Richmond’s 2023 R1 to enter the equation?

We traded a contracted #1 pick for pick two alone.

That’s inexplicable.
No, WE used the ‘bounty’ to upgrade 8 to 2, we rollled over like half tonne momme. Port should have paid for this upgrade! FFS.

I don’t understand the argument we traded 2 first overall picks for picks 2 & 3.

A. Happily trade that Judas prick from our club, he is a selfish prima donna that never wanted to be here. And,

B. who can say for certain that the players we take at 2 and 3 dont become 300+ gamers/ premiership players/ Brownlow medalist or all Australians for us??

If anything (IMO) we have just evenly spread greater talent over the squad.

I understand the disappointment, but it is in no way possible to call this a failure for at least 3-5 years.
The 5 year plan you say?

They are well aware our list is on the verge of already being built. Highly doubt they're waiting 5+ years for this and next year's picks to come on.

There’s every chance they feel we have a ways to go in some areas and the new draft hand helps us get there quicker.
