I used free agency... because it is free and our list managers think it has been a great strategy to piss away our second round picks in back to back spoon years so we don't really have any currency to get something better than free right at the moment.

All I am hearing from you is we are going with Larkey alone for 2023 and I am saying that isn't acceptable. I'd rather resurrect Kennedy's dead corpse than go into next year with just Larkey. We can't allow it to happen so s**t or get off the toilet. We can't just fart arse around like we have and put an uncompetitive list on the table for members to watch get annihilated.
Don't confuse critiquing your unrealistic suggestion with wanting one KPF. That's a textbook straw man.

I quite literally said I have been saying it for years and suggested we trade for some given the FA pickings is slim. We have picks this year and some next year, if we have to trade so be it. Kennedy just ain't happening. Riewoldt, Gunston more likely, and haven't retired from the game

i dont really care what we do with 1, but we clearly don't need anymore mids or half forwards. We desperately need key backs and guys with speed who can use the footy from halfback

whatever strategy gives us the best chance of filling these holes is the one I'm in favour of, whether it's taking someone like that at one, trading it for more picks where we can address those needs, or using it to get player(s) in the 21-25-ish age range that make us better in the short, medium and long-term

Dude I think with such high picks you go with the cliched best available everytime.

We've just taken Goater and Bergman in the 2nd round last year. I'm not sure I'd be drafting another flanker. Particularly Perez starting to accumulate the pill. All in on KPs this year

Idk as I've not really studied his kicking technique. Though to counter your points he often tries the pin point pass inside, and is hit and miss with them. He's certainly hit a few, but the miss is just a lot more noticeable, imo. Iirc he's (Taylor) DE is around 66%, not sure what his kicking efficiency is in comparison. I'm a fan, but agree his kicking, or rather accuracy, could do with a lift.
Just on a tangent, we do have some different techniques. Zurhaar has his own, LDU seems to stoop over his kicks, Lmac is the worst lefty of all time .... Was it Rod Austin at carltons that used to kick the bottom end of the ball? The wonderfully gifted P. Krakouer almost placed the pill on his foot.
There're lots of different techniques that've worked over time. You're right, Curly Austin would spin the point of the ball backwards onto his boot but he was surprisingly reliable.

I think the best kicks like Brent Harvey have good hand eye coordination and rotate it slightly forwards in a controlled way, extend at the hips but move their upper back into flexion, or a hunched old man pose to stay over the ball. LDU does that. He could probably lose a bit of that upper back flexion to kick it higher on occasions. But despite what some say, LDU's kicking efficiency (67%) is good for an inside mid but there's upside.

Agree that Taylor bites off that 45 kick quite a lot. Kicks it at 60%. There're worse but just watching him from level 1, the ball 'drop' sometimes doesn't look controlled, more like an Adam Simpson lob that goes up first. He also somwtimes leans back - hips and back go into extension. We have quite a few who do that and it's not great.

I'm destined to have a look now on the tele. I am a back row level 3er, I like to watch the spread, the run and see who's working. The acoustics up there are actually pretty good, Shakespeare must've been onto something Dome wise. It is very noticeable when someone gives the Tommy a decent roost, the slap sound.

It isn't a straw man. I don't care if you have been saying for years or not, the past can't be changed. I am saying put yourself into the list management position and Clarko is coming to you and saying, dude, we can't go with just Larkey again next year, he needs some help. What options do we have given AFL haven't said what assistance they are giving us and we obviously aren't going to trade our pick 1. Saying you thought we should do something years ago doesn't help me for next year. Assuming we get dicked by the AFL, we need some kind of strategy as a worst possible alternative for next year. What have you got?

Because this is the hand we have. We can't go with just Larkey next year, so what better alternative do we have? It isn't a rhetorical question, I am hoping someone has a better option other than someone who wont come to us.

He's never said he wants to leave for the record and his manager said he will play out his contract. He looked pretty excited when he met Clarko, I think the kid just wants some proper direction.

Teach me sir

So, if we all know we're short of draft picks (ignoring 'potential' PPs), who would we trade (that we really don't want to) to get some draft collateral?
For mine, not LDU, Larkey, Curtis, Cunnington, JHF, McKay & not many more.
Gotta give something to get something. Not saying trade the others, but I'd listen to offers...

Future picks & priority picks will get us plenty of draft collateral.

Wut?

"My knee is a big reason for retiring. I think my drive to play is still there, but I'm realistic my body is not going to be able to take me to another season," he said.

He still wants to play, he doesn't have confidence in his knee and I think having to fly long distances every second week probably makes it hard for recovery. Him struggling though is 15 games this year, we only got 1 game from Comben and Edwards combined this year.

Who? They don't exist mate, that is the problem. We had options in prior years and sat with our thumb up our arse. He isn't exactly my preferred choice either.

Acres? He is a midfielder.

He wants to win another flag, he aint coming to us.

I used him as an example of a player when someone asked who as a free agent. Clarko might have someone else in mind, it doesn't necessarily need to be a free agent, he might actually chase a quality key forward depending on what kind of assistance we get. I'm saying worst case scenario, I'd rather have Kennedy playing for us in some kind of managed role than rely on two blokes with schoolboy physiques who only managed 1 game this year combined. We need something right now to help out. I'd take half or part of a year than nothing.

I don't know what that means, or exactly how it translates to on-field performance next year. This Larkey as the only forward shitshow needs to end this year unless we want more spoons for the cupboard.
Firstly stick your condescension straight up your arse.

Essentially what I am trying to explain is what’s the point of bringing him in if his body isn’t right? How does that help us on field or on the track? As I said if we were going to do it I would try to use Clarkos relationship with Gunston way before Kennedy because if Kennedys body is cooked then the whole project is pointless. The list build related the kpfs here is ****ed but Kennedy is certainly not the answer. Say you get a year out of him at 60% rat power, we’re doing you go this time next year. Any draftee will probably be a way off and if CCJ and comben haven’t taken over by then they probably won’t which will need replacing anyhow. I just see no point “avoiding the spoon” as opposed to drafting and developing or if we are lucky enough recruiting a second fwd. hell I’d rather lobb than Kennedy and I sure don’t particularly want lobb

I’m not suggesting really Recruiting fwd, there’s no point but unless there is someone who has been in the system for time enough to have built the required fitness and strength to actually achieve the goal of helping Larkey. Frankly if comben and ccj are going to make it they’ll need to be playing now but I’d be looking at either drafting a key fwd or trying to find a player who isn’t necessarily a star but capable enough (I was using acres as an example of a player who mightn’t be overly rated but can be solid enough with some potential for growth, ideally if there’s a fwd equivalent)

This recruiting hodge made brissy what they are stuff is pure garbage, it was players like Neale and lyons coming in that gave the younger players the protection to develop.

Re the last comment if your concern is players not having the knowledge or motivation to do the required work, I think Clarkson and the team would be able to identify and “motivate”.

Some Saints supporters expecting/hoping a future second or pick 19 priority for Hill FYI.

Hopefully Brady doesn’t have responsibility for negotiations this time…
Happy to walk and leave them with the mess theyve created
