GC's grand retention plan has seemingly been to drastically overpay mid-tier players to make it almost impossible to say no...ala Griffin Logue.

They had to do something to stem the bleeding but the short sightedness is really going to keep smashing them in the face when their genuinely good players see that a guy like Jack Bowes is owed ~900k by the club.

Imagine being so spoiled for draft choices that having to pay a club with pick 7 to get a player off your books isn't an instant termination for your list manager.
3 years ago they were given an unprecedented suite of early picks from the AFL now they are giving them away for nothing.
You couldnt make it up

Hey Taylor, you’re usually on top of this sort of thing any idea how our draft hand for 2024 looks?

Confused as to why we will accept a future 3rd for Acres when asking for Carlton’s pick 29 would be more then fair.
He’s not worth pick 29 let’s be realistic.
Next year we have as it stands, a pick in every round (our own). If Jon Ralph is correct we will have Carlton’s F3 tomorrow morning in exchange for acres.

So are we going to give back Brayshaw, Brodie and Johnson?

We have been significantly improved thanks to GCSs.
Not the point here. They are distorting the comp and disproportionately benefitting powerful Melbourne clubs.
Since GC and GWS have come in it’s provided the chance for clubs to beat the AFLs equalisation measures.
Not good for the long term health of the game

So you are happy to trade our current and future 1st? Not sure if I agree with you there.
True. Logue and Acres then. 13 + F2 PP for Jackson. Milk more for the contracted players and keep what we get from them

Let's be honest, the free agency regulations are so far skewed towards powerful Melbourne clubs, that trading for elite players as an inter-state team is just a disaster waiting to happen. Couple that serious breach of the so called "equalisation measures" with what you speak of, and the competition is one big laughing stock.

I expect Geelong and Richmond not to finish bottom 6 for the next decade.
Now that’s a broken comp

Happy for the club to put it's case to the AFL, but Brisbane are making pretty powerful changes to their list this off season too. Port and Adelaide have more than handy changes too.

I think some posters here have adopted a whining, whinging victim stance about a heap of issues when the reality is we have areas we can and should improve.

The AFL need to bring the NBA's "Larry Bird Rule".

Teams should get a discount on the cap for players they draft.

Maybe, 20% of the players wages outside the cap.

If Top 10 players leave your club, it's generally behavioural (Liam doesn't drink etc) or the club has not used the skills of the player properly.
He's still very light, and I'd like him to get strength to his core. Not easy for indigenous sometimes, but if Charlie Cameron or Kozzie are the prototypes, then Liam has the potential, in spades.
All you Kool Aid drinkers thinking we'll just get better naturally are in a parallel universe. Geelong will get stronger, Richmond same, Brisbane stronger etc.
To get better you need to keep your core to push to get higher. I'd argue that Lobb & Logue are core

Liam most definitely drinks

...and the Western Bulldogs have also been provided with plenty of drinks from the pig trough in recent years...

Disagree. It is excellent off field management.

We fail to extract the same regional loyalty that Geelong does from players despite appealing to a regional demographic.

We fail to attract the same third party sponsorships.

We can improve those aspects significantly.

One of the biggest issues is that some clubs like GC and GWS and to a lesser extent, us, have to overpay to keep players.
Exactly! We're not a "destination" club (as some Melbourne talking heads have so conveniently termed it) due to our geographical location, city's exorbitant cost of living, grueling travel regime and lack of historical success. To win a premiership, we're going to have to "Bradbury" it.

I don’t know about you but I’ve seen the Catslose at least 4 GF’s before their dynasty 😜

JHF wants out.

'PORT Adelaide has made a bold play for North Melbourne's No.1 draft pick Jason Horne-Francis, who is keen on a bombshell move to the Power.'
