Hasnt come anywhere close to earning or deserving that money yet.

I will explain that I wasn’t saying to give TDK the $800k pa that Bowes is being paid. Only that if we did the trade for Bowes, we might not be able to afford TDK. I would just rather keep money aside in the cap for that extension.

On current output, IMHO, TDK is worth 550K a year. Sign a 4 year deal and the likelihood is that would be unders if he continues to improve
Glad you're not responsible for our contracts- $550k for what exactly? - he’s still developing and a still away off. I would be offering significantly less and throwing in a heap of differing performance bonus.
I’m not giving $550k to someone who hasn’t torn up a game and been dominate - 15th in bnf isnt $2.2m over 4yrs

On current output I'd argue he's maybe worth half that. Can certainly see it rising steeply though over the next year or so.

Ah the little jibe at start

The average wage with the new TV rights will be over 400K, don't think an average of 550K over 4 years is unreasonable, especially with the upside he has.

May seem overs initially, but perhaps viewed differently come the end

Contacts, especially for players with upside need to be reflected as such

Every player on the list should have upside- you can’t throw money at potential- you reward performance.
Ruckman are cheap until proven, then they are arguably the best paid in the comp.

Not how contracts work. They are based on futures, not past or present

That’s generous Arrow, any wonder were inert this trade period.
Toms impact on a game the occasional beautiful mark and support as 2nd ruck that’s a handsome salary. He certainly has potential but needs at least a few more seasons yet before we have any real yield.
Not sure where to play him either , he’s a giant utility perhaps?

Past? Please. If that was the case Jack Riewoldt would be on 600K next year
Of course the past plays a big part- what about the present? Very quite on that, you made a call that’s a little out there, it’s ok mate, u don’t have to defend it to death, you’re just digging a deeper hole.

His current deal, which includes 2023, is the present. When you’re extending a contract it’s about the future. It’s not like he’s a casual employee on a rolling week-by-week pay cycle that fluctuates purely based on his performance. (Although his contract will obviously have kpi triggers/incentives).

Not every player on the list has a upside.
As Arrow mentioned average wage is going to be close $400k soon.

TDK has a year to run on his contract, he has 12-18 months to hit his peak, despite some negativity on here he carried the load on his own for most of the season.
We would expect him to go to the next level in the next 1-2 years so $500-$550k is not far off the mark.

Geelong are very keen to attract him in the near future.

Future payments based on what a player is capable of achieving, in the future

A player at and or past his prime, won't get the same salary in the future, for what he "has" achieved

Need a shovel?

Exactly, the past & the present helps to determine the contract. Arrow was saying future performance only

Who’s saying the contract value doesn’t go down? - I never said that at all. I said past, present and future determines the contract- if you’re a gun on squllions & then stink it up or just age out, of course the value decreases.
I didn’t say anything about rise/decrease, just the mechanisms used to determine value - ie your past, present & future value to the club!

If Tarryn Thomas does want out id 100% be asking pure silk when he is on and would thrive under the environment we are creating
