Bytel is like Steele. Windy is different. Steele isn’t anywhere near as agile, doesn’t turn as quick, pick up the ball on the run. Windy doesn’t rack up the tackles and grunt like steele. He’s a big body but he moves and gets the ball like a Sinclair with more inside game.
I don’t want to jinx him. But Windy has Trac potential

At least port doesn't really go off. I'd like to try this before i die.

Yep, can confirm port lasts for ever. I inherited some off my grandparents and every now and again I crack one. They are just as awful after 50 years as they were when they were made. Some is meant to be good but it all taste like cheap cough syrup.

I imagine there's plenty of us with something special tucked away just in case it ever happens

That would suggest some kind of impulse control. I usually get impatient.

A mate gave me a bottle of Grange to celebrate ny daughter's birth in '96. I was sposed to give it to her on her 21st

I drank that with a pizza when i was pissed and on my own early 2000's

But this Spumante is special!

Can testify that it doesn't go off. My housemate and I once discovered a whole load of it in the back of an old fireplace of a house we rented, god knows how old.

It was an interesting few days.

If we win a premiership i'm probably most of the way through a bottle of whiskey ( if i'm still allowed to drink whiskey at that age ), good and bad becomes kind of meaningless by then.

If
I had a few non Aussie rilles supporting mates lined up and all excited about going down to Melbourne with me this year to watch the Sainters win number two.
That was before the bye 🌈

Just on this tangent, I don't think you can downplay what 2009/2010 did to the fan base.

I was born in 1980. For the first decade of my life we were poor and I didn't follow it too much.

Then we came good for a few years and fell back down. (91-92)

But we came good almost straight away. Then fell back again (97-98).

But we came good almost straight away. Then fell back again (04-06).

But we came good almost straight away. Then fell back again (08-11).

After that... we never came back. Most Saints supporters who were at the 2010 GF or were watching closely probably felt the same way when Goddard took the mark - it's finally happening. Then it got ripped from us over the course of the next seven days.

Since then we've never won 13 games in a season (2020 was a 13-9 pace in 22 game parlance but we played 17) and never played in a prelim (between 2000 and 2009 every club played in at least one prelim).

So a supporter base raised on two truths (we've won one flag, and the cycle is swift) now can't hang it's hat on the one truth that contained hope - the speed of the cycle. Because it's been a flat line for a decade.

I can understand the sentiments detailed above. I can't do it, although I regularly do my head in at games in front of my three children, which I really prefer I didn't. But I'd never forgive myself if I stepped back and it finally happened without me making the effort I've made for the last 23 seasons. So I'll keep the same Level 2 seats and driving 90 minutes each way and organising my weekends March-August around who we are playing and where.

But I don't begrudge someone stepping back for their own sanity.
Interesting,
They way you pointed it out.
Since the “AFL” began, “drafts” “equalisation”..

5 year cycles of reloading to premiership contention.
Then stopped in 2011…

When they brang in 2 new teams and gave them everything for 5 years.
Also brang in free agency where players only wanted to go to the teams already on top of the ladder.

Of course we didn’t have ourselves in a good position list youth wise prior.

The same CANNOT be said for Bailey’s Irish Cream.
I inherited an unopened bottle of that (still in it’s presentation box) from my parents.
Some twenty odd years afterwards we opened it, or tried to….
It had devolved into a block of stone cold, hard, dehydrated Irish Cream.

I mean, that's a subject for another place, but the era of automatic priority picks was the best parity era. The problem with free agency is it doesn't come in early enough so players are making decisions based on success rather than money.

Think I’ll just buy some Colombian marching powder and head out with Jordan de Goey and Sam fisher when we finally get there

Just having a look into JDG and what he might bring as a goal kicking option.

Last year he kicked 23 goals in 20 games. One of those games he was subbed off early so 23 in 19.
He kicked 2 or more goals on 5 occasions. The total from those 5 games was 16 goals.
That means from the remaining 14 games he only kicked 7 goals and was goalless in 7 games.

Ok, but the Pies sucked last year. How about the top 4 Pies of 2022?

De Goey has 15 goals in 16 games.
He kicked 2+ goals in 3 games only. The total of those 3 games was 8 goals.
That means from the remaining 13 games he kicked only 7 goals. He was goalless in 6 games.

On the surface I was alright with getting JDG in as a match winner but he's absolutely not worth the money that's been spoken about. It'd be insane to pay him 800k+ for 5+ years.

Would rather grab someone like Sexton from the Suns if we want another senior body in the front half. Maybe even ask the question about Ollie Henry from the Pies who might be gettable given he was sub or out of the team in the back half of the year and now they are also bringing in Bobby Hill he's only going to drop in the order.

Henry kicked 21 goals from 13 games.
He kicked 2 or more goals in 7 games. The total from those 7 games was 17 goals.
This means from the remaining 6 games he kicked 4 goals. He was goalless only twice.

We were done for the year and instead of an investment in the future we went back to a guy who was due to be delisted. To me that is dumb management. There was risk that Hanners would break down, which he did against Geelong. We put him in anyway. Bytel might have been anything but likely now leaves and get somewhere else. Now we have neither.

How is Bruhn ahead? Because he's getting games? How will he be after a season playing at Sandy or two?
Well I suppose we could have made Bytel the injury sub instead of Kent?

But I highly doubt that would have changed anything

Already agreed to terms would be my tip! We wouldn’t be going public unless they’d have an answer. He’s a free agent he doesn’t need to make a request he just walks…
I’ve been hurt by you before, Johnny Phonenumber.

Totally on the fence here re: DeGoey

I know he is dynamic and occassionally a game changer but this year he averaged less than 1 goal a game and around 20 possies - thats not very spectacular and doesn't get the juices flowing

Anyone care to argue why he is worth 800k a season on a 5 year contract?
I don’t want him, I can see it now. They‘re talking to the president saying look we beat x who beat y who are flag favourites so we must be a potential top 4 team we just need DeGoey, we wouldn’t lie to you.

I doubt that is true unfortunately

It was the Pies that put contract talks on hold. I think they are just biding their time to see how much room they have and who else they can offload.

If Grundy goes it will open up space to give him a decent offer. If he gets low balled then he might come crawling to us.

They also have McStay, Taranto and Bobby Hill in talks with them so it might be a matter of wait and see for him.

I just get the feeling the ball is completely in Collingwoods court and we are just sitting their waiting for the scraps.

Im talking myself into going hard for Henry now.

Get involved in the Hill deal and make it a 3 way for a future 2nd special.

Pies - Lose Henry, Gain Hill
GWS - Lose Hill, gain StK future 2nd
STK - Lose future 2nd, gain Ollie Henry.

Maybe put a few 4th rounders around to 'balance' it but that's a way better option than paying JDG 800k+

LOL
Funny because its true

Great to hear from you PM. Good idea to step back.
Came to AFL late as I was Sydney born and bred, moved here in 1988, didn't fully understand football for about 3 years ( many would say I still don't), of full immersion into it. Fell in love with just not the game but the fanaticism of the supporters and media.
This translated into Saints fanaticism for me.
That has wained. Started with 09 and 10 heartbreaks and the 12 years of false dawns.
Now being an MCC member I go to neutral games and still love the game but the emotional torment is not there.

The unrequited love for the STKFC has taken it's toll. The false dawns, the culture of failure, the lacklustre efforts of the players, has led me down a similar path to you.
Love this place, for football talk, good and bad, but need to pull back from the Saints a bit.
Did you barrack for the bottom side in the NRL when you lived in Sydney
