Neo-liberal capitalism, yes.I don't ascribe political tendencies to media outlets such as The Age or the ABC. I think on the main, they report the news.
I'm not going to get into an argument about what constitutes justice, but I'm sure there are as many views on what that means as there are bums pointing to the ground.
If the population has moved left, then the population is left. The Cain/Kirner and Bracks/Brumby governments weren't anti-immigration. IMO Andrews leads a comfortably left-of-centre government.
And I'm getting in before someone suggests having any sort of tolerance for capitalism precludes one from being left-of-centre. That would be ridiculous.
They think it's conservative to have the right for religious people to discriminate against others, but you can't discriminate against religious people. And by "discriminate against religious people" they mean if you do something that they don't want you to do, like have a gay marriage or abortion, then they've been discriminated against, even though it bears no effect on them whatsoever. What does this even mean? In my experience it has often been the right who are anti-free speech (ie wanting to censor and ban things in the name of "religion" or "family values") though I expect you actually mean the opposite here.
And in 2026 millennials and gen Z will make up half the voters. Let's hope the LNP still thinks AW listeners and HUN readers are a pathway to victory. The lib policy of screwing over the young since the 90s is now backfiring against them.
Have you met many gamblers?Yes but most people will be careful when they have to actually put their money where their mouth is.
Some of the polls they were reporting weren't from reputable pollsters. And your point ignores the point I've just made- that the media narrative (in The Fairfax press at least) was simply reporting the polling
Neo-liberal capitalism, yes.
Has the Andrews government privatised any government assets or services since taking power?
I only remember Faine on abc, I recall he was fairly incisive and demanding with his questions to all callers/ guests.Wait a second
Did someone just say "balanced Jon Faine"
hahaha. Nice. Friday funnies time?
And that's exactly the problem, isn't it?how many people do you think have an age or a hun subscription these days?
For example I support the amending of 18C. It's too subjective and broad reaching. What does this even mean?
Traditionally the left were the defenders of free speech and the right were the suppressors. In my experience it has often been the right who are anti-free speech (ie wanting to censor and ban things in the name of "religion" or "family values") though I expect you actually mean the opposite here.
And that's exactly the problem, isn't it?
Nine considered an online weekday and a hard copy weekend paper earlier this year IIRCRumours have been around both the Nine and the News papers going 100% online in the relative near future
with both stables gutting genuine journo's, and replacing with click bait opinion writers and cut n paste from the wires, I suspect this trend will only further accelerate, and the trend to alternate news sources will continue
The traditional media has become more "cheerleader" like and clickbaity and sensationalist ever since their revenues started dropping and they had to compete with the internet/ social media.so you think if more people subscribe to their cheerleading articles, they will stop cheerleading?
The traditional media has become more "cheerleader" like and clickbaity and sensationalist ever since their revenues started dropping and they had to compete with the internet/ social media.
The most effective way to combat this is to pay for a subscription and contribute to their sustainability.
Not sit on BigFooty or social media criticising them.
Not the HSso wait wait wait
you think the best way for me to stop the HUN fapping over the libs is to pay them for fapping over the libs?
how drunk are you (and its cool, friday arvo and all )?
Not the HS
They're way more sensationalist than The Age. They have gradually transitioned to tabloid status over the past 20 years and perhaps too far gone already. (Although they're not as bad as some make out).
But The Age remains a quality news source which is reasonably balanced and not too far from the centre (Regardless if you think it's centre left or centre right )
If you're worried about the quality dropping, the best way to ensure it doesn't is to take out your credit card and give them some of your money, so they've got a consistent revenue source instead of needing clickbait headlines to keep casuals clicking and keeping the advertising revenues coming in.
What's "reasonably likely" to "offend" someone is too subjective. In what aspects?
Yeah probably. Most of the things on a typical Greens wish list are things that a good society needs anyway. And as Richard Denniss never tires of pointing out, we live in one of the most prosperous countries in the world, in the richest era in all history. We can’t afford everything, but we CAN afford anything.Greens want to "do" more than Labor.
Does this mean Greens will be better at "governing"? (If they win enough seats?)
So what? You think Costello routinely walks into the Fairfax offices and chides the journalists for being too left? You understand what the role of a chairman is, yes?when their chief is the former liberal treasurer,
Nine Entertainment did. Not The Age.and they are paying/hosting liberal fundraisers,
Their Vic election editorial said Libs weren't ready to govern, and Labor's policies were superior.you really think my sub will stop them cheerleading the libs?
As a boomer, have fought the good fight since I could first vote in 1978. 1983 was a watershed moment for the left, even though the Hawke/Keating governments were dominated by the NSW Labor right. And in 2026 millennials and gen Z will make up half the voters. Let's hope the LNP still thinks AW listeners and HUN readers are a pathway to victory.
Editorial called for it, and she has been given the arse.So what? You think Costello routinely walks into the Fairfax offices and chides the journalists for being too left? You understand what the role of a chairman is, yes?
Nine Entertainment did. Not The Age.
Guilt by association is silly.
Their Vic election editorial said Libs weren't ready to govern, and Labor's policies were superior.
That's called an endorsement for Labor.
Despite the mess our state is in.
Yet people like you insist they cheerlead the libs.
It's pretty amazing to me, reading clearly intelligent people like yourself and Chadwiko, who are so ideologically captured you're immune to facts
I suspect the massive stimulus and spending of the covid era has increased the popularity of this viewWe can’t afford everything, but we CAN afford anything.
What are you basing that on?What's "reasonably likely" to "offend" someone is too subjective.
Next step is the onus becomes on the journalist to prove public interest (18D)
At a minimum "offend" should be removed from 18C.
No, the most effective way is to pay for a subscription to one of the news sites that hasn't turned into moronic clickbait yet. The ones that have are too far gone to be saved now. My preferred paid sites are The Saturday Paper and The Monthly. The traditional media has become more "cheerleader" like and clickbaity and sensationalist ever since their revenues started dropping and they had to compete with the internet/ social media.

Yeah, nah. They're not balanced at all.But The Age remains a quality news source which is reasonably balanced and not too far from the centre (Regardless if you think it's centre left or centre right )
So now that they've gone clickbait mode, if they see more subscribers after that, won't they say "hey, writing sh*t is working! We had better write even more so we get more subscribers!"If you're worried about the quality dropping, the best way to ensure it doesn't is to take out your credit card and give them some of your money, so they've got a consistent revenue source instead of needing clickbait headlines to keep casuals clicking and keeping the advertising revenues coming in.
