You did say categorically ‘we won’t pick Rachele’ too, though ;)
I probably did ....Mac Andrew was my "Dark Horse" in that Draft .....was rated in the teens, when I got my Jockey silks on .....he's going to be some player

I had him even lower earlier in the year, gave me Jaidyn Stephenson vibes… and I mean the NM version, not the Collingwood one
Question is, can Duursma put on the mass to be that Mid ....not that I've studied him too much, doesn't he have narrow shoulders ?

For pick 1 it should be an early first, a mid first and a late first. I think Melb is getting around the mark. Roos with an early first and two late firsts is still laugh out the room territory.
So close, but so far.

West coast are only going to do the deal if it guarantees Curtin, and one of Hardenman and Tholstrup, IMO

Can’t say I see it being toooo receptive to putting on mass… although the main criticism of mine for him in the midfield is his craft and awareness, just doesn’t appear like it comes naturally to him in there, right now at least

No chance Eagles end up above us on the ladder. They are almost a lock for the spoon again, or at best 2nd to last if they can secure a couple of lucky wins. We will be around the edge of the 8 again next year.
Unless we're not. It only takes a couple of injuries or bad breaks.

It's maybe worth one first round pick to flip, but not two.

When we did the Carlton trade - Carlton were looking like WCE level bad, but we were looking to be a lot better then than we are now.

I agree, but if I come in hot on an opposition board generally it is met with instant resistance so here’s the kicker:

WCE OUT: 37,58,F1
ADEL OUT: 10,14,20,F1.

Would you still do the deal? I acknowledge need high end talent but we also need a lot of youth. If Crows are happy with this deal I would do it. There’s definitely two camps on our board, one that is a hard no on trading F1 and one that is keen to trade into this draft and sliding next year.
not happening

Who is our last ‘successful’ first round Vic Metro draft pick?

Talia? Brent Reilly?

Not sure I completely agree with that. If you watch him closely in the champs games, was actually very good in close when on ball. He is just more dynamic when forward when able to beat his player one on one.

Needs to build his body up for consistent on ball duties, but class player.

Agree to disagree, I wasn’t exactly impressed with his ability to make an impact in congestion. Definitely dynamic up forward though, though whether it be fwd or mid I think he’ll need to bulk up to withstand other bigger bodies

thats almost the exact analysis I posted to Bicks the other day. Pick 8, and possibly 7, are seemingly the only options and we still miss out on the elite mids unless Sanders is deemed in that category AND he falls that far
Unfortunately there are no elite mids after the early picked lads this year. I just cant quite see Wilson developing into that elite mid player at AFL level, love to be wrong. But if he's not the absolute player we want him to be, why take him at 10? Agree with everyone else, next year looks terrific for mids. How good is Finn O'Sullivan going to be? love the way he goes about it.

If we can't trade up, I think we need to look at other positional options with our picks. Ideally O'Sullivan gets through to 10, failing that, Windsor would be an awesome option for a half back/wing role, replace Brodie Smith. In that instance we would have to give strong consideration to a tall at 14, Ollie Murphy possibly? Developing tall back, can play forward too possibly? Does crash packs, had a very strong VIC Metro campaign.

The more Ive watched Archer Reid, the more Ive liked, Over 200cms, can he play at both ends of the ground? too early at pick 14? possibly, but if our recruiters like him, I'd be happy with that selection. Reckon he will gone by 20 as North need one of every sort of player!

Can anyone tell me the knock on Caiden Cleary? not mentioned really at all, but I like him. Kid is a high quality midfielder, perhaps slight knock on his kicking under pressure, but is a clearance machine, and can spread hard and link up. Tested well for endurance, speed not bad, and tough. Swans Academy, worth a cheeky bid as pay back for Michalanney early bid? Anyone interested should watch his 2nd half, Allies v Vic Country, absolutely dominated. He's the one feeding it out to the likes of Sanders, McKercher, Rogers etc. Looks a very solid 200 game player to my eye.

It's difficult because our first round drafting has been poor in general
2007. Dangerfield. Elite pick.
2008. Davis. New team unlucky.
2009. Talia. Very good pick.
2010. Smith. Very good pick.
2011. B.Crouch (mini draft). Pretty good.
2014. Lever. Poor list management.
2015. Milera and Doedee. Pass.
2016. Galluci. Bad.
2017. Fogarty. Good.
2018. Jones and McHenry. Pass and bad.
2019. McAsey. Our worst since Angwin.
2020. Thilthorpe and Pedlar. Trending very good.
2021. Rachele. Trending very good.
2022. Michalanney. Trending very good.
2023.. 2 or 3 picks TBC.

3/17 fails.
Nail 2 this year and that becomes 3/19.

If the club wasn't a complete basket case off field between 2016 and 2019 maybe that would be zero fails.

I wouldn’t mind doing an exercise to see how our record stacks up against other teams, surely there’s gotta be quite a few worse than us

There have been quite a few "ëlite" mids taken top 10 onwards over the years, I guess it depends on your definition of the word elite
True.

What are your thoughts on Cleary? I know we are unlikely to be able to get him, Swans will match after their first pick. Had an excellent carnival for the Allies. He was also very good in the futures match last year. Am I missing something?

Our use of 1st rounders from 2000 to 2006 was horrendous.

Angwin
Reilly
Traded for Carey
Watts
Meeson
Dougas/Pfeiffer
Sellar

This is true. I do wonder if that occurrence is lessening over time. Neale last one I can find from 2011 draft not in first round.

Ablett junior. Would have gone second round.
Swan.
Kennedy.
Mitchell.
Fyfe.
Neale.

I hope we aren’t spending a lot of trade capital on the hope Petty will be a gun forward, when he’s had limited exposure and it’s down back where he was really solid.

After Tex we’ve got Fog, RT, Welsh and Gollant, it’s not an area I’d be pumping a lot of resource into unless it’s a proven gun forward.
Alot can happen in 12 months , we could see him as a forward by then or not even be keen that keen on him or preference him

Be serious. Even the PlayStation has crashed from laughing too hard

The assumption being made is Clubs with single digit Draft positions are happy to move back .....strange thoughts, given most experts say the top 7-8 are as good as any year ....then there's a drop-off

So why would a Club voluntarily miss out on the Draft cream ?

Now ...GEEL might do #8 for #10 and #20 ....that's if their target has been snapped up .....but would we entertain that deal ?

You can forget #14 & #20 for #8 ....not happening

The sole purpose of the draft from a league and hangers on perspective is to generate clicks and interest during the off season

That is why EVERY year some such rhetorical nonsense like “top 7-8 are really good” is spouted.

Not because it’s true, but because to say how bad a year is in reality and everyone switches off

Strong at the top end but lacking in depth is code for a shit year, and please, please don’t stop paying attention to this shit year

No one looking for clout, attention or clicks ever admits that a year ain’t worth paying attention to - because it’s not in their interest to tell the truth
