Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' July ranking

Reading through Twoomey's latest draft rankings. If we do end up with a pick around 5-8 we will hopefully have access to either Duursma or Sanders. Both sound like great options for what we need in our midfield.

McKercher also sounds perfect but likely gone before our pick.

If I had to use AI to design a midfielder that would suit us perfectly I’d design Colby Mckercher + 5cm

I’ve never seen so many talls in the top 20. Guess what AFC are gonna do?

There’s 1 , maybe 2 pure mids max in our range that would suit

There’s 2-3 flankers that could be mids that might suit

There plenty of KPD / rucks

Looks like SA is barely represented in the top 20 form guide posted today.

In my opinion this is a strange top 20 draft profile by Cam in general. A 170cm small forward ranked #3, 3 ruckman, 7 Allies players, KP Swingmen all over, more Mid/Fwds then pure midfielders.

Might be a sign of positionless football becoming more prominent and sought after by recruiters. And perhaps the U18 coaches for SA have been a little too rigid in how they line their boys up.

If it is the case it bodes well for Welsh next year.

The phantom draft is pretty much as expected

SA boys were very disappointing in nationals

The small forward and rucks were quite special

I don’t mind the ruck Goad as a late pick at 205cm and likely growing . Super athletic but football raw

As does 10 clubs out of 18 in Victoria

And the fixtures that see many of these Vic clubs play a majority of games in Victoria in the run home to Finals.


Yep the AFL is all about equalisation.....






Looking forward to hearing about the AFL doing a proper investigation into these claims though.

AFL should ban Reid from the draft for 4 years. The strongest message you could send is not allowing him to get away with it

I'd like to see the top ten draftees get a four year contract, It gives the clubs some reward for their investment.
11-25 draftees get three contracts and two years for the rest.

Sounds good but JHF and even Ollie Henry who threatened to go into the draft if Collingwood didn't release him after his original 2 year contract, players and their managers will still find ways to circumvent the system.

It just feels like the interstate teams are always up against it from the start when drafting.
I was hoping that longer contracts for high draftees might change their mindset as well when they go into the draft.

SA at Under 15 & Under 16 level are really strong but something keeps happening between there and Under 18 level

i think Norf will get a priority pick thats not overly contentious - perhaps end of first round. but then afl will ensure they get first round compo for mckay based on their secret herbs and spices formula even if its almost as ridiculous as Dees getting pick 3 for Frawley to Horks back in the day. McKay aint 'worth pick 3' but AFL media wont kick up a fuss unlike the 'Crouch isnt worth pick 2' crap we faced.

No, because thats not a pure academy, plus the rules which allowed Bulldogs to get JUH don't exist anymore.

But I would be if they brought him up through juniors and developed him in the same way that we might have for Lukosius and Rankine, and Port for JHF straight off the bat.

Maybe the club sees him as the next “Dawson” like trade in..







Comes in as a half back flanker.. turns into the clubs best midfielder..







Maybe Redman himself wants to play mid and isnt getting that opportunity at Essendon and thats one of a few reasons he may want to come to Adelaide.. sees more midfield opportunities there..







Maybe his mate Dawson is onboard too..
