I've seen a few aforementioned "experts" saying he's a good pick up because he'll be a straight-swap for the loss of Stephens...

...who wasn't even in the team most weeks.
Jordon is the hardest of the newest 4 to place in the side. Grundy for Hickey, Adams for Mills, Hamling for Melican but Jordon? Unless he becomes the super sub...

Replaces Mills in the middle, Adams in the middle Errol more outside.

Goldy is head and shoulders ahead of the other imports. (And not just coz he is taller)

McKay could spud it up for McCains

Gresham was third banana behind Higgins and Buttler as an ordinary small forward.

Dursma is slow from leg injuries and a B Grader at best.

Plus the Donnie’s couldn’t get rid of Shiel and have massively overpaid Parish who hits targets on a random basis and the only time he ran backwards to defence was coz he was lost at the time.

Supporters get a lot of mileage out of running down the bombers (I've joined in on occasion) but despite the antics of Dodo with his trade tactics I don't think it's as laughable for their ins next year. Time will tell and you can only base it on what you've seen from those going in but they couldn't just sit on their hands and do nothing. It wasn't that long ago that McKay to the Swans had some hopeful of him coming good in the right environment. No different hope at Bomber land.

Lions did well in the trade period last year and was definitely a success for them with Dunkley but Gunston just didn't work with their established forward line and a few other factors out of his control.

It's all a gamble, better to wait until next year before judging them against our own trades.

Adams for Rowy and sharing with Parker.

Can't see that happening unless Rowbottom is injured or really out of form

Hoping Rowbottom can be a more attacking weapon now we have Grundy

has not got the attacking tools. As Jo the Cameraman would say. “Can’t get his mitts on the ball and can’t dispose of it when he does”.

12 months ago I called Rowy’s ceiling as B Grade. I saw nothing in 2023 to change my view. He does tackle well enough, but is that enough? To progress we must move beyond sub par mids.

I see him as a useful depth player void of elite skills.

Folks need to remember we were one of the worst clearance mobs in 2023. Rowy was our poster boy.

The palpable excitement we experienced when Gus had a bit of time in the mids really showed our very low bar.

imo, to stay on a list Rowy needs to develop some useful tricks beyond pure negation.

Hate to say it Uncle but the coaches clearly don't agree with you.

I won't be shedding any tears for them DQ. As you would know better than most, Freo are one of the many clubs that have a distinct advantage over the Northern clubs when it comes to the draft. In the last two drafts alone, there have been a combined 15 West Australians taken in the first two rounds. By comparison, there has been 1 from NSW & Queensland combined.

That's before you get to their advantage in the trade period, where their own go-home factor has helped them land Luke Jackson, Jaeger O'Meara, Brad Hill, Jesse Hogan and a number of others.

As for their losses, in recent times Hill, Hogan, Liam Henry, Blake Acres, Griffin Logue and Rory Lobb have all requested trades out of Freo. They're all West Australians.

There's something rotten going on within the four walls of that club and feeling sorry for themselves over how really-not-very-hard they have it won't turn things around for them.
Agreed.

I just hate Freo less than I hate the West Coast, which does tend to cloud my judgement on such matters.

Not nearly as valuable as many teams. Everyone will assume we are a top 4-6 side. It’s nowhere near enough. We basically have picks 12, Norths 19 next year and let’s say pick 15-18 next year. It’s not a lot actually

You realise what North would give for those picks?

You always have to pay substantially over the odds to do a pick swap in this area. We are likely to hold 12 and be done. Cats won’t trade 8 (if they do will be to North who hold 15,17,18 in this draft). Giants probably happy with 7 as they can get a defender to develop. Dees no hope traded up for a good reason probably for Sanders.
It's nice seeing giants not have a top 2-3 pick for a change.

I agree and I put him ahead of C grade at best mids in our side too.

Agree to disagree about Rowbottom

So given Cleary will chew up our later picks are we better off trading 12 for 2 picks in the late teens low 20’s or just take best Available with 12?

I don't think that is a given. We could quite conceivably have a 2nd pick before the bid.... then considering there are 6 Hawthorn and Doggies picks between our 2nd + 3rd that will vanish, a 3rd live pick is not out of the question either.

But, tactics could play a part here. Bid early on Cleary and 8 picks out of 12 might disappear - ours, Dogs and Hawks

IMO, Cleary has a fairly exposed ceiling, I don't see a bid coming in the first 2 rounds.
