Menners is toast hey.
I thought he was last year tbh... The game against Melbourne I thought you could notice he just doesn't have any acceleration, granted could be from injury etc, and he's never been explosive.. But he looked so one paced, and the team has left him behind really with the other runners now there

He looked slower than a wounded dog last year.

Didn’t he cop a knock high on the leg from a tackle- more of an impact injury?
No idea mate. But I trust someone here who says he's done a hammy. I just haven't heard or seen anything from the club.

LLoyd with the injury updates:

  • Henry as we know is medium term will start rehab in 2 weeks
  • Menegola will now have surgery on his troublesome knee, pulled up sore after Hawks game. He'll be out for medium term
  • Duncan is in SA doing rehab with a specialist. Is running but no time frame given on his return.
  • Hawkins training freely but LLoyd said we'd always take a longer term view, which makes me think he'll miss round 1. Up to the Coaches if he plays or not.
  • Conway weight bearing and is doing a lot of strengthening on his foot, no time frame given
  • Neale back to main training and will ramp up over the weeks
  • Kolo in concussion protocols, will be guided by the medical team.

I hope this will be a weekly report in place of the less forthright reporting from other years.

Round 1 Update | Simon Lloyd

I hope this will be a weekly report in place of the less forthright reporting from other years.

'Our club is really forthright with these things once we know.'

Chris Scott, discussing injury reporting by the club (February 2023)

So clearly it's just a perception issue for supporters like you and me.

:D

Not good for Menegola, especially after the last 15/18 months

I wish the guy all the best, but can see him sitting on the fringes when he does return as the midfield/wing group may be hard one to break into this season

He's generally looked good when we're in transition and he gets the ball in space, but watching him in his opportunities last year he just seemed off the pace and I questioned where he fitted into the team

As you said, he's never been explosive off the mark nor the quickest guy in the team, but it does feel like the cliff edge is getting real close

Was told it was low grade and that it would be touch and go for Rd1. I took that as him missing based on him coming off a hammy recently and the club likely to be extra cautious with a key running player.

Not good re menegola. At his age if he needs more knee surgery he might not make it back..i hope this isnt the last time he plays AFL as he has been such a good player and deserves a flag.

The duncan news is interesting..they clearly have him on a specific program but he had calf issues last year also..admittedly when he got back he was very good..lets hope for the same.

Would love to have neale out there.

I think menegola has found it harder than most to adjust to the new gameplan (admittedly when you cant train bc youre injured it makes that worse) but i think the biggest issue apart from the fact that the knee clearly cant play 3 or 4 games in a row-is its taken his speed from him. If he gets the body right hes a very good player but knees at his age dont tend to improve.

Ok if he was only dazed why is he not playing rd 1 you are the expert on concussion?
No, the experts at the club have diagnosed concussion, and he is out.
But getting him to retire now is not necessarily on their agenda.
Time will tell. I hope not. I rate him highly, but if indeed he has ongoing concussion issues, you may be correct.

Recently as in 6 months ago?

No what I was referring to was a history with hamstrings. Whilst the Prelim injury is most recent occurrence, I think it simply means the recent strain will see them take a cautious approach.

They won’t play all of Hawkins Duncan and Holmes. Hawkins gets up - Holmes line ball - Duncan to miss. Just joining the dots but who knows what our 22 looks like next week.

I think the change in sub rule helps them take Hawkins in though. He still takes their best or second best defender while Jez and Rohan do their thing. QF will be fresh in Pies minds.

I think menegola's issue is that the player he is really suited our old gameplan moreso than our new one. He would run for days to get in the next perfect position and was good with his overhead 1on1 type mark while now we focus on the speed in getting forwards and overlap running which requires more natural speed

So Kolo will miss with concussion? That correct? As I thought he would be pass the days protocol?
kolo still in protocols but given it’s over 12 days he can be released at any time I feel..
I’m all for them taking their time

Go Catters

Yep. We were wondering who would be the Dal and Higgins of this year…. he might still crack a few games as they like him and the “just in case” last roll of the dice…but will fade out of the club at end of the year…

Hard to tell whether others will but Rohan wouldn’t want to have too many bad games if O Henry gets some consistency.
