Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Stephens is better than Sharp IMO but can we develop our current development wingers to be equal or better…

If Stephens is available, we ask the question. sharp isn’t getting a game and is now 4th round territory, but is he better than what we have?
I think there is a good chance that Sharp is a better AFL winger than Hughes, yes.

How many actual wingers on our list do we actually have? If Sharp wants to come to Freo then I’m not sure we’re truly in a position to stay no.

NOD is the only genuine winger on our list that I see as AFL quality. Aish and Johnson aren’t genuine wingers imo - they’re inside midfielders that can play wing a bit. Great to have for a third or fourth wing options but are they playing 80-90% of their TOG there ideally - not a chance. I still see both as best 22 next year.

Liam Henry is probably who the List Management team overrated and thought could make up for Acres. Problem is JL wants a bid bodied athlete playing the Acres - Hughes is both those things whilst Henry is neither. Both aren’t all that great at footy. Don’t think Henry will be on the list next year. Ideally Hughes is depth and plays out the last year of his contract mostly at Peel and filling on the HBF if needed.

We should be trying to turn Chapman into a wing as the first option but we should be recruiting another in case it doesn’t work. Recruiting Sharp with a Future 4th means we focus on other needs at the National Draft. With earlier picks we need more talented forwards, with later/rookie picks we need to increase our midfield depth.

Apparently sharp has a grudge against the dockers due to not getting the deal done last year when he was going to come from GC

Well he will just have to bank that $400,000 this year for not playing AFL and suck it up, or play the mental health card and return back to WA early for family reasons.

Whether it’s Sharp or someone else I still think we need to find a way of getting a winger onto the list without using much draft capital.

Let’s see about West Coast too. I’m not sure they’ll have as much room on their list as people think tbh. They already have Port’s second rounder - to me it’d be strange not to use all five selections at this years draft.

Freo might be Sharp’s only option if he want to continue his career in Perth.

Eagles can make room

SPS, Edwards, Petrucelle, Witherden, O'neill, Williams, West, Clark

Trew, Winder

And thats without cutting or retiring any oldies

If West Coast delist Jack Williams after two seasons with his first one injured a bit and his second one derailed with a ruptured spleen in the preseason we should look at him. Not sure his speed and agility is enough, but if he is a marking target and an honest lead and mark player we could use that up and down the line.

I'd definitely be targeting more wingers so we can eventually let NOD loose on the ball. I think his ceiling is as an inside/outside beast and gives us the explosiveness that Serong/AB/MJ/Raz lack as a group. in fact I'd like to see Brayshaw and NOD eventually swap roles.

I like your lateral thinking.

He isn't an AFL player, we had multiple chances to pick him and didn't

Treacy is a far superior player in every way and he can't even get a look in for us half the time

Need a quality wing to go with Johnno, Ras, Brodie, Serong, Brayshaw, Aish & Drizz. Gives us a lot of depth and variety.

DGB maybe the player we chase to release Chappy further up the ground.

Shame Henry hasn’t come on.

No we shouldn’t.

I said it two years ago when he was drafted and stick by it - His athleticism is poor he has zero chance of being an AFL player.

I had concerns about JVR but realistically for JVR my concerns were he didn’t have the potential to be A Grade, for Williams it was whether he’d be AFL quality at all.

Deadset if he was on our list he’d be playing in Peel’s Reserves.

What don't you like about Williams?

We had two top ten picks, the first pick of the second round and then a pick that ended up being #54 that we took Benning with which was a few picks before Williams went to WC.

I'm not sure the option to take him prior with #8, #10, #21 or #54 really translates into multiple chances to take him unless we drastically reached.

I have reservations on Williams' agility and speed but haven't seen him playing half injured last year and obviously this year he has been recovering from that preseason hospitalisation.

Can we draft a winger late? Where do wingers normally fall in the draft?
