Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Hey, hey - they may be driving the bus soon…
But Freo had only had 1 bus driver….for those who remember- Shane Parker…ran with his arms out wide like he holding the steering wheel driving a bus….the original and best bus driver 👍
I hope you are not TTP re Shane Parker. He was a much better than average player.Still one of my favourites of the club.

I think it's worth separating that horrific troll bait of an article from Suma from the actual list management discussion. Given Jacksons performance around the ball, does anyone think we would be worse off in the medium to long term if we turned Darcy into Naughton? I think from a list perspective we'd be better off but Darcy seems an even more "heart and soul" guy than Logue and Acres and I think we've seen this year that you shoudlnt underate the impact of losing well loved players all the time. Losing Darcy would really hurt
I still maintain the new podcast should be "Ruckdogs and Friends"

This could be good for the team and Sean's form. Didn't he go mental after Suma wrote a similar article about him last year?

That is the story around the last time this happened, yes.

Suma talked. Sean is enraged. Signed extension.
It's all becoming clear: Sumich's story has actually come from the club. The club started the rumour in the full knowledge that Sumich would run with it, thereby triggering Darcy to rush into singing off on the long term low pay contract the club has opened negotiations with.

F**king genius!

Norths R2 PP this year and Treacy (given he’d be surplus to our needs if JVR came in) would be a fair trade
JVR is contracted for 2 years after this I think. Would you accept Jefferson and a round 2 pick for a contracted Amiss?

Would people entertain trading our future first+Treacy for JVR?

Surely we have learnt the perils of trading our F1 when we are one of the youngest teams in the competition?

Also might want to wait and see how both of them go for the rest of the year. Even longer. The best time to get JVR will be end of 2025 when he is out of contract and more proven. We will be treading water in 2023 and 2024. We may have stepped up in 2025 to look top notch that year. But whether that happens or not, I think 2026 is when we should really be firing with Amiss, Johnson, Erasmus approaching 75-100 games.

Further, need to keep that 2024 1st on the table in case there are other options such as Naughton (out of contract end of 2024). An uncontracted Naughton should be gettable for our pick (which I think will be around 10) plus change to bring it up to a top 5 pick in value. The problem is Bell went bananas with the Jackson trade, not understanding the going rate for uncontracted players.

It's a shame that there wasn't a player in the top 5 that the Bulldogs desperately wanted in 2017.

Pick 5 and a future 2nd for 9 and 16

Draft Brayshaw, Naughton and Allen

We traded our future second rounder for Nathan Wilson that year.

If live trading existed at the time it would’ve been interesting to if we’d held pick 5 knowing Cerra probably doesn’t want to stay.

I know he's a midfielder but Mat Crouch from Adelaide might be gettable and not cost a lot. He can't get into Adelaide's midfield and he may help us out
even though one would say we don't need another midfielder. He might be the missing piece to winning those clearances.

I'm not saying we should do it, I actually don't even know if I'd do it myself. It was just a conversation I had with mates before the game and thought I'd ask about it here.

I think you're right though, free agency is definitely the way moving forward unless it's a guaranteed hit.

I feel like Erasmus will have a similar trajectory to LDU where the club rates him from the get-go, the fans jump on board from the glimpses of talent he shows and the rest of the AFL notice his talent in year 4-5 of his career. Then just beast modes from then.
Luckily for us he had Mundy to learn off and still has Fyfe, Brayshaw, Serong, Brodie to learn off. He already has played juniors with Johnson and Amiss.

Plus he's only a few minutes drive away from Nick Suban, arguably the greatest player to pull on the anchored chevrons.

LDUs issue was his work rate and lack of willingness to drive himself.

Ras doesn’t have this issue and shouldn’t be grouped with LDU.

We need midfielders but for depth and maybe the future.

The fact we’ll have none at Peel this week and we haven’t really got that many injuries makes that obvious to me. Brodie and Johnson are outside the team this week though so it’s not like it’s urgent but we’d have at least three, probably four, on the list that aren’t best 22 ideally.

Crouch is 27 and isn’t playing for Adelaide for a reason. Flexibility to play other roles is probably a trait I’d like for mids we bring in this year to have and tbh I don’t think Crouch has that.

Will Brodie is superior to Matt Crouch in all aspects of his game, but particularly moving the ball towards goal. Matt Crouch has been one of the players who has suffered from the 6-6-6 rule because he isn't really good enough to be a midfielder and isn't dangerous as a forward but he will run into space all day and offer a mark for a defender to kick to - then he will take his full allotment of time and kick it sideways or backwards.

He is the sort of player who can have 30 touches and 0 metres gained. It's obviously not that drastic, but that's the picture of his style of play.

Carrot Farmer, full of crapola
**** that article is terribly written. Syntax is shocking, and the bit where he's explaining how it will pan out; "Freo will deny this and make him swear allegiance... yada yada" reads like something I'd expect from a Primary School kid. Does no-one proofread or edit at the West? Regardless of the merit of the story, that is a ****ing joke for a paper servicing a city of over 1m people.

Bad analogy, Amiss is a pick 8, while JVR was pick 19, plus Treacy is a year older than JVR while Jefferson is a year younger than Amiss.
Pick 22 + a Third year KPF for a Second year KPF (taken at 19) is a reasonable offer.
No way would our future 1st be involved in a deal for JVR.
