Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

We'll get some kind of FA compensation. Hamling isnt going to the other side of the country unless it's at least two years on decent coin.

Kind of shocked he's seemingly leaving to be honest, why cant ANY players stay with us for under market value
Do you have some examples of equivalent FAs signing you think might be comparable?
There's seems to be a big emphasis on age in addition to main years/dollars.
What would you expect for Hamling? 2 year deal for Sydney?

An example of a third round compensation pick for a 26 year old on a 3 year deal;

Maybe I'm being too pessimistic, and KPDs really are suddenly getting paid a lot, but I can't see it right now.

Just because we haven’t announced we’re doing something doesn’t mean we aren’t working on something.

also, the aim is to be at our best in 2025+, so on thar basis you take the risk of letting hamling go - it makes sense. How many games did he play this year?

Won't get a pick for Hamling unfortunately

We are doing the right thing though, has to be a 1 year deal

It'll be super unlucky if Pearce and or cox miss a stretch of games next year, if they only miss a few then it's the perfect time to blood Davies and or draper

I also don't mind chappy and Ryan playing tall

Chappy is the same height as Nathan Murphy, pies #2 defender

The most frustrating part of this is we are strengthening another contender

Yes we decided to have an unfit Pearce run around instead…

If we rested Pearce when he was hurt and getting smashed and played Hamling..we may have been more competitive.

Back to the drawing board.

We can’t get a pick? Why the f not?

Only Hamling was barely getting through matches at Peel anyway.

I don't really rate Sydney as a contender. North interchange error and calling the behind vs Crow. Take those games away where they got extremely lucky and they're at the same level as us.

Also Chappy would be a decent solution if he didn't get himsefl a new injury every two weeks

they have played 43 and 44 of the last 47 games respectively. Reasonably durable
Now take into account how many games they've played injured. All of a sudden that injury they've been playing through gets tweaked and we lose them again for an extended period.

Yeah I’ve looked into this just now and I don’t think we will get one,
Two comparable deals in recent years were Luke Dunstan and Tim O Brien, both 2 year deals.
Both didn’t get any compo picks.
Sydney would need to be paying 31 yo Joel some serious money to trigger one

Kinda a kick in the teeth though considering he was on a decent amount of coin and he was injured for most of the time. Now as soon as he is healthy he leaves.
He also has no way of making his way back into the b22. Even if he's playing better than them they're not going to prioritise playing him over Cox or Pearce.

If Cox didn't do his ankle Hamling probably would have been delisted.

The consequence for the Jackson trade and half a decade of punting our future 2nd down every year is that we have no room to really do much this off season without significant risk/even more future pain.

Honestly, this may just be the time to stand pat, focus heavily on development of what we have and take all our future picks into next year and aim hard. Otherwise we're just going to be continually throwing future picks and being frustrated that we have no currency when someone is obtainable. It sucks but it's the hand we've dealt ourselves.

Yeah I can’t begrudge him taking a deal from Sydney. I’d love to keep him but I don’t think Freo should’ve offered more than one year deal (we if it wasn’t for some other contracts, maybe we would’ve been in a position to offer two but that’s a different story) and besides, he’s just a depth with no guarantees of playing AFL and more than likely spending most of the year at Peel again.
This board made him delisted only couple of months ago, I don’t understand the outrage.

You new here?

Don't think there would be a problem here if Chappy stayed fit and built on his last season. Him being injured is really impacting a lot. How many different injuries has he had at this point?
