It’s a funny thing isn’t it.. that same midfield of Cripps, Hewett, and Kennedy are a big reason we often control the centre square and get the forward territory advantage. We didn’t lose from being one paced. We lost because in the second quarter and the early portion of the third, we lost all desire to try and link up and take the game on. Combine that with poor execution and skill errors going forward. That is the biggest thing we need to work on this upcoming preseason. Really need to work on our forward craft. Work on lowering the eyes and hitting up the leading forwards. Work on leading patterns. Owies is really the one guy who leads up and gives the ball carrier the short option.

Speaking of leading forwards, Charlie needs to learn to start in front of his defender and lead up rather than always starting behind. We bomb long and he’s out of position which not only wastes a forward 50 entry but also allows them the quick rebound.
Charlie's season seemed to draw to a close after his Coleman winning kick. Think he needs to go back to work in the off season on winning a bit of easy footy to stay involved.

Tonight didn’t change anything for me.
We need some leg speed and better ball use. I’m disappointed Dow is going and I would have played him in the finals

Improvement next year needs to come from Williams Boyd Kemp Hollands Cowan Binns O’Keefe Lemmey Durdin Cincotta Motlop TDK. This is the group with all the upside

We need to make sure players like Cottrell Fogarty Cuningham aren’t beat 22.

I hope we get Elijah Hollands and I would love a Liam Henry. He is what we need

I worry about our leg speed and ball movement. Can't just rely on Clearences to get you wins

I agree. It’s one part but you need run with it.

Cripps Kennedy Hewett can’t play in the same side

And I’ll say it and most will probably disagree but Cripps worries me. He’s a bull but is poorly skilled, very slow and gets found out when having someone mind him. My concern is the game will go past him quickly. Happens with players with no leg speed.

We need to add class and run to Cerra & Walsh. It’s why I would keep Dow

Ball use is a big issue as well

Dunkley, Neale, Berry, McLuggage, Rayner.
vs.
Cripps, Hewett, Walsh, Cerra, Acres.

Not a huge gap in leg speed in the middle. It’s the quality of ball use that was the difference. Their half backs were snipers by foot. We played Saad on Cameron and lost all drive and dare off half back. Apart from the 1st quarter and 4th quarter when we were forced to take the game on, all we did was kick long down the lines to forwards that kept conceding front spot to their defenders.

It would be nice to add some leg speed to the team but the reality is that it’s the the dare to take the game on, the quick decision making and skill execution by foot that speeds up movement more.

Ball movement and players on the outside that complement their midfield make up for it. We don't have those players.

Rayner killed us in the middle when he played there. Like a bull...unstoppable. fast and powerful.

neale is no slouch either...may not be super fast runner but has enough burst and good balance

we defintely need a tweak in the mid group

Love all 3 players but one out of three needs to be traded.

Need currency to improve deficiency.

We can't just keep all the slow inside bulls to ourselves.

For me Coleman was the difference. Just cut us up and we had no one capable of doing the same. Maybe that’s Williams next year
Also their half forwards mangaged to get involved in the game, Bailey and McCarthy got high up the ground and actually utilised their pace and were played through. We couldn’t do the same

Whenever we come up short, it's always 'if only we had player 'X' (some player who might be gettable) in the side'. I think this is the wrong way of looking at it as we only have limited trade capital and can only put 18 players on the ground at once. They need to be a cut above or it's a bit like robbing Peter to pay Paul. We shouldn't be short-sighted because you can bet your life that our needs will take yet another twist next year.

Boyd Saad Cowan Williams Docherty Cuningham as our defensive run options really changes our backline dynamic.

Who's our forward coach? Our forwards don't lead. They don't block for one another to create space. We continue to just bomb it.

The issue is that are trying to turn Doc into a wingman, midfielder and forward. He's best position is behind the ball. He was brave tonight to even get up for the game however he was asked to do a role that he isn't a customed to play

Austin addressed a few of our issues last season and needs to go again, we have the pillars of a very good side, with obvious areas of weakness, pace off half back and pace up forward.

Brisbane killed us off half back and their small forwards have pace and are dangerous.

Hopefully Austin likes a player who fills a need and can have an impact similar to Hollands this season, he also needs to find another Acres type who can come in a play a role.

We should be calling Goldy for a chat as well, even at his age, he’s a much better ruckman and player and will be free.

We need to just adding to this team.

Harry showed some really good signs tonight. My concern is we are still carrying a lot of injury prone players - Williams, Marchbank, cuningham, Martin and Mcgovern. We were lucky with the last 3 months a lot of those players stayed on the park.

For me, small forwards + forward structure is the biggest need.

Another fast mid- I’m not sure we can see Cripps, Hewett, Kennedy in the same midfield moving forward.

I hope we are ambitious in the off season, need to keep moving forward as those around as will.

A few more gems like Kemp, Boyd and Acres please 🙏

Our problem through this whole period is we don’t kick easy goals.
Our defensive structure and contested ball is first class but need to run and use the ball better especially with our connection inside forward 50.

No overhaul needed, couple of shrewd moves and some internal growth gets us right there.

Plonk Corey Durdin in the gym all summer with footage of Brent Daniels on repeat on a screen in front of him.

I dont see why any of them need to be traded but i agree we shouldn’t be playing them all. Kennedy is good cover for any of the inside mids and feel he will be the Dow of next year, i feel our midfield depth is already quite shallow and with Dow supposedly out the door, losing another mid will hurt.

Add Williams Boyd Cowan (and DC who I see as a running defender) Docherty with Saad and the problem is solved

Agree. A lot of improvement will come from within.

Just add a couple of quality young players
