If TDK wants to chase the $$$, I'd take any of Saints, Hawthorn or Essendon's first rounder for TDK...

It's a loss for us, but not the end of the world...
If we better our list from it (add another first round pick, in a super draft) and relieve some of our cap squeeze for other targets...

We have the perfect future combo, on the list already...
They just need time to mature and hope they have what it takes to make it...

O'Keefe - Athletic 1st ruck, who can go forward and kick goals...
Lemmey - Athletic goal kicking KPF, who can second ruck...

We will still need to rely on limited players like JSOS, Pittonet & Mirkov, untill they are ready for AFL level football...

Why do I get the feeling you can never "win" a trade with Geelong. Canny Cats are deadset canny. Best we'll ever do with them is break even which looking at some of our landfill efforts of the past might even be considered a win.
We definitely "won" the Henderson trade where we got a first rounder which we used on an out and out gun. If they want someone on board they are prepared to be fair and reasonable.

They have shipped a couple of duds off to us though.

On TDK's potential it will be two first round picks or GTFO.

Would need to find a short-term ruck solution though. Pitto is solid enough, but the minute he goes down we're gonna be reliant on Mirkov and I'm just not convinced he has it yet. Maybe by next season he's playable, but probably better odds he's still a non-event anywhere except the centre bounce.

I have a funny feeling that Reilly O'Brien from Adelaide could be gettable by the end of the year. Only one yera older than Pitto and shades him in pretty much every stat. Very similar "type" of ruck, except he can actually dominate the ruck contest against most midliners and hold his own again the top tier, and he's generally pretty durable. Pitto is solid against other midliners and generally gets soundly beaten by the top tier, and has an unfortunate penchant for missing chunks of the season (not his fault).

If Adelaide are open to moving him on as part of their list rejuvenation, I'd be comfortable with a late first rounder for O'Brien.

Say TDK got us ~17 and ~25 from a Geelong deal.
Send 17 to Adelaide for O'Brien (they free up some cap space, get a first round pick in, and can hand the ruck mantle to Himmelberg).
We package our first (~12-14), ~25 and our future first for the best combination of picks this year, on the basis that the Campo twins are F/S picks in 2024.
Draft a skillful medium forward who has shown they can hit the scoreboard - Caddy, Duursma or Moir have been spruiked as players to watch who would suit.

Way, way overpaying for O'Brien there. He'd be worth a a late 2nd at the most. He's pretty much a slightly more durable Pittonet. He is a full scale whipping boy over on the Crows board.

There was a teaser about "an exclusive update on one of footy hottest contracts" on 7 news at 6.00 p.m. not sure if it is TDK.

Target Matthew Flynn as a RFA, save the draft capital

Depends how this year pans out. If he isn't their first choice ruck for the year, then yeah, can probably get him for less. If he holds that spot then I reckon that's what it would take to convince Adelaide to deal. I'm not putting any stock in the views of the Crows board, they're a feral bunch who turn on their own at the drop of a hat. From what I've seen of O'Brien he's a genuine AFL grade ruckman who can play the role solo (JSOS/Young/McKay would be sufficient to spell him a couple of times a quarter). Means we can play another runner instead of a dedicated ruck/forward backup.

Open to the idea, but if we lose TDK my preference would be to look for a "sure thing" who comes in straight ahead of Pitto and gives our midfield group silver service 4 games out of 5. Will watch Flynn with interest this year, but for now I've still got him pegged as depth/developing.

The hope is that a full year of development has TDK showing enough to be that man....and that he sticks around.

If we lose him, a premium ruck would be my first priority (force multiplier for our 1-wood clearance game), and hit the draft for an injection of pace, skills and most importantly goals up forward. Third tall/intercept defender next on the list, subject to decisions on Gov and Marchy, and would probably need to find a ready-made option somewhere via trade or free agency (Doedee as an RFA is the first that comes to mind, Bailey Williams from WB would also be of interest).

Big year coming up for TDK. If he is worth a top-10 pick at year end, Austin will find the dollars.

Get your point. Different circumstances I know but the dees paid pick 27 to get Grundy with the pies paying $300k if his salary. Paying a first rounder for a far lesser ruckman of a similar age would be Gold Coast Sunnish.

The Swans are savvy when it comes to player movement, and they believe their record of sustained success is a significant drawcard for De Koning, who is looking to play in his first finals series for the Blues this year.

But there is some good news for Carlton fans. Sources close to De Koning are adamant that if he plays, he stays.

That is a massive statement.

We are all getting excited about Hollands and Cowan, and some Lemmey. Do we leave the salary cap that tight that we can’t retain them in a couple of years?

Nope , but we possibly turn over Dow (500k) Ed retires ($300k) Mitch's contract runs out and if he has a good year he stays on less or else gets delisted $400k - $700k) Marchbank and Cuningham either come good or come off the list ($400k each) + several other lesser lights (e.g. Philp) come off the list ($200k x 3).

That's probably about $2.2 mill minimum in relief. Some of this will already have been allocated in some of the contracts already signed but its not too hard to see how we could accommodate TDK if that's the path that we choose to go down.

Clubs reported as circling are St Kilda and Essendon. Geelong will be there if they can clear sufficient cap space for an offer. Someone has alerted me to a current monster, long term offer from a “powerhouse” which is not my info to publicise.
Those clubs can circle all they like, but l don't see him leaving to another Melbourne club, Geelong is a point of difference in offering a attractive lifestyle.
l believe he will stay with us, but clearly he needs to step up this season, hopefully he will as clearly this makes us a better side.

I see a big clean out coming at seasons end to free up space and another year of shrewd business and going to the draft.

Yeah, those circumstances are pretty significant though. If another club ends up screwing their cap between now and October and decides to offload a premium ruckman for a second round pick while also kicking in a chunk of their salary, then I'm happy to take that windfall. It's a long shot though.

I'm not wedded to O'Brien either, he's just one who looks viable when skimming the comp. Quality player, one of the top few rucks a couple of years ago, plays for a club who are rejuvenating and making noises about how competitive their ruck stocks are. There aren't many sides with gun ruckmen at the moment, and getting one in who could be top 5 in that position gives us a massive boost.

*All contingent on the assumption that TDK goes. If he stays, we need to commit to him as our starting ruck. If that happens, we should trade into this draft, future first for a pick in the teens, then use two picks in the teens to try and slide up into the top 5-10 depending on where the quality forward 50 specialists are rated. Best case would be GC's academy kid (Walter) being rated top 5, and GC finding a bit of form this year to end up with a pick around 7-9.
